Comments about CatEye Stealth 50 GPS Computer:

This is about the lowest priced GPS based unit I've seen (because it was on sale). I use it for its most basic function… speed and distance. It requires no sensors on spinning wheels or any other part of the bike to give you a really accurate speed reading. That's all I really need and the simplicity of the thing is really great. I supposed that if I were a more avid cyclist I would purchase the add-on heart monitor and other sensors, but for me that would be overdoing it. The beauty of a GPS based speedo for this unbeatable sale price is not to be underestimated. All it needs is to see the sky and the rest is icing on the cake.

Comments about CatEye Stealth 50 GPS Computer:

As far as a computer goes, it's adequate. If you want to use the GPS features, find something else. Downloads almost always fail. But for basic computer functions it's just fine. It comes with a warning that mileage will not be accurate. Hmm... I got this for a recumbent trike after discovering that the wireless computer I bought would not work reliably. Accuracy I can't vouch for, but at least I have some idea how far I went and how fast I got there. It does that.

Comments about CatEye Stealth 50 GPS Computer:

direct access to current time, instead of having to go through successive menus would help greatly. After attempting several time to get the current time, I gave up and now carry a watch. I think the flaw is in the selection for daylight savings.
On the plus side, I have recommended this device to friends.

Comments about CatEye Stealth 50 GPS Computer:

Placing a wheel sensor on my recumbent was very difficult. I use this in the GPS mode only and have it displaying current speed, clock time, and trip distance simultaneously. The set-up for these basic functions was simple. I have no interest in downloading to my computer and this unit is ideal for my purposes.

Comments about CatEye Stealth 50 GPS Computer:

The rechargeable feature and GPS tracking make this cyclometer the easiest to use, though at very short times, the reported speed is questionable, particularly on non horizontal terrain, even mild inclines. Over the distance, readings seem to be consistent.

Comments about CatEye Stealth 50 GPS Computer:

I noticed on two longer rides of 60 and 50 miles that the mileage calculated was almost exactly 2% on the positive side, so that my 50 miler was calculated at 51. I checked the unit repeatedly using highway mile markers and known distances from carefully calibrated standard magnetic sensor plotting over the last 23 years in the same area. Then I reviewed the documentation and discovered the disclaimer that without a speed sensor (magnetic sensor calibrated to loaded wheel circumference, ie. 2096 for my 700x23 Continental tires) some data may be inaccurate. Well, one of the reasons for going to GPS was to get rid of the reliance on the magnetic sensor. I do not want to credit myself with any mile I did not earn, and so I will either add a sensor unit to this system, or go back to my old computer, or use both. Accuracy is important to me, and over the years I have observed on every ride that whatever magnetic computer I was using, that with the proper setting, the calculations were always within a few thousandths of a mile. The consistency over the years was astounding, so I noticed within the first mile using the GPS that it was off. The benefits of GPS though are substantial, one being that the exact route is stored for playback on your computer, plus the additional functions available such as heart rate and cadence, etc. Will definitely consider adding some of these functions. Overall a good purchase despite the accuracy issue, which I expect to resolve with a speed sensor soon.

Comments about CatEye Stealth 50 GPS Computer:

I use this on my mountain bike to download to Strava. I don't have any ANT+ devices synced to it, but it doesn't look too bad to do. Setup was easy with the YouTube video. The only beef that I have with this is if you turn the unit I say at your house and then turn it off -it stores that location. If you then travel to a park via car to mountain bike, it will use the original start location (your house) and the date it was last on for your start time. The route will then show a straight line from your house to where you began the actual ride. Simple fix is to reset the trip distance every time you start a ride. Now that I know, I haven't had any more weird routes that I have ridden.

Great gps at the price. Paired right away with nashbar heart rate monitor. Got both on sale and saved big time. Have used it on 4 rides that were about 1 and half hours each and it still has power. Can't comment on software as I have only been using it on the bike. If you've never had something like this and are on a budget I highly recommend this. It I supposed to be able to link to Strava through their software so I can't ask for much more.
