"Without speed sensor, some data may be inaccurate)

Comments about CatEye Stealth 50 GPS Computer:

I noticed on two longer rides of 60 and 50 miles that the mileage calculated was almost exactly 2% on the positive side, so that my 50 miler was calculated at 51. I checked the unit repeatedly using highway mile markers and known distances from carefully calibrated standard magnetic sensor plotting over the last 23 years in the same area. Then I reviewed the documentation and discovered the disclaimer that without a speed sensor (magnetic sensor calibrated to loaded wheel circumference, ie. 2096 for my 700x23 Continental tires) some data may be inaccurate. Well, one of the reasons for going to GPS was to get rid of the reliance on the magnetic sensor. I do not want to credit myself with any mile I did not earn, and so I will either add a sensor unit to this system, or go back to my old computer, or use both. Accuracy is important to me, and over the years I have observed on every ride that whatever magnetic computer I was using, that with the proper setting, the calculations were always within a few thousandths of a mile. The consistency over the years was astounding, so I noticed within the first mile using the GPS that it was off. The benefits of GPS though are substantial, one being that the exact route is stored for playback on your computer, plus the additional functions available such as heart rate and cadence, etc. Will definitely consider adding some of these functions. Overall a good purchase despite the accuracy issue, which I expect to resolve with a speed sensor soon.

Comments about CatEye Stealth 50 GPS Computer:

I use this on my mountain bike to download to Strava. I don't have any ANT+ devices synced to it, but it doesn't look too bad to do. Setup was easy with the YouTube video. The only beef that I have with this is if you turn the unit I say at your house and then turn it off -it stores that location. If you then travel to a park via car to mountain bike, it will use the original start location (your house) and the date it was last on for your start time. The route will then show a straight line from your house to where you began the actual ride. Simple fix is to reset the trip distance every time you start a ride. Now that I know, I haven't had any more weird routes that I have ridden.

Great gps at the price. Paired right away with nashbar heart rate monitor. Got both on sale and saved big time. Have used it on 4 rides that were about 1 and half hours each and it still has power. Can't comment on software as I have only been using it on the bike. If you've never had something like this and are on a budget I highly recommend this. It I supposed to be able to link to Strava through their software so I can't ask for much more.

Had the computer four to five months, had issues with laptop. Took care of laptop then when I wanted to up-load data to Strava, it would not extract data. Contacted customer service, they said to un-install Cateye. I was unable to un-install, had tec un-install but tec was unable to install Cateye. Several calls and emails to Cateye, but to no avail. I bought a computer, but have an expensive speedometer. I am looking for a new brand.

After a ride and you connect to your PC or laptop you can view a GPS map that shows your speed, heart rate ( if you have ant+ HRM)Elevations on the exact places you rode. Very cool. The only thing I wish is that I would be nice to put on the display what you wanted to see. You are limited to a few choices

Comments about CatEye Stealth 50 GPS Computer:

This is the first CatEye cyclocomputer I've owned, and it's the only one I haven't loved. I thought it'd be cool to give a GPS computer a try so I can keep my phone battery reserved for emergency calls rather than drain it using an app. Overall, it is accurate and operates like other CatEye computers. However, the battery life on this computer isn't that great. My normal commute is 6.5 miles and takes less than 30 min, but the battery takes an appreciable hit in that short time. The other feature I don't like is that you have to clear the trip before you can download the data.
