Comments about Nashbar AT1 Women's Mountain Bike:

Hi don't usually ever right a review but hope I can save people a little aggravation. I bought this bike for my sixth grade daughter. It is a very nice bike but mine came with no instructions and some factory assembly issues. I've been mountain biking and as a result repairing bikes for 25 years and spent some time scratching my head at what didn't look right. . So first off with no instructions this is what you are in for you must add the reflectors, front rim and brake, pedals and the headset/handles bars. So my handle bars were mounted backwards, front shock had the spacers mounted wrong and the derailed cables were crisscrosses under the bottom tube. Took me a while to figure out were things went had to take off the shock twice to route cables properly. It would save a lot of time if the bike came with detailed assembly diagrams since many people won't have a similar bike in the garage. Tips: tools needed Allen wrench, screw driver, 15mm for pedals, pliers to crush the cap for the front brake cable and wire cutters for the same cable. The front relector goes on the handle bar and the rear on the seat post. If you don't have another bike to look at look at the picture of the headset on this page to check the cable or pictures of other mountain bikes on the web most route the four cables on the handlebars in the same fashion. The Bike does not come with two things kick stand and cup holder so be prepared to add to cart if they are needed. After assembly it is a real nice looking bike with decent components for the low entry price hopefully my daughter will agree! Nashbar please add some diagrams either in the box or on the website.

Comments about Nashbar AT1 Women's Mountain Bike:

I purchased this for my 14-year-old daughter, who needed to move up to an adult bike. After so many years of cheap department store bikes, I felt it was time she had a decent starter bike.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the frame was all aluminum, with an oversized downtube, so it's lightweight for an entry-level mountain bike. The grips are durable and heavy-duty, with grip-shifters. It came with Kenda tires, and I raced for years with Kenda on all of my mountain bikes and had great results.

The bike was relatively easy to assemble--for me. There were no instructions for assembly in the box, so I was fortunate that I've built bikes from the frame-up in the past. People who have never serviced a bike or built one may have a tough time knowing how to put it together.

Basically, I had to flip the handlebars, insert the stem in to the head tube and adjust it, attach the front wheel, and insert the front brake cable and adjust it as well as the front brake pads. The shifters have worked just fine, but the bike will get a fine tuning after my daughter rides it for a few more weeks.

There are not stickers on the bike, so I decided to dig in to my parts box and pull out a bunch of cool stickers that can make the bike look more fun. There will be some people that may knock the welds on the bike; they are a little rough, but (again) I was not looking for a show bike.

I thought this was a great value for the money, and I think this will be a bike my girl can have right in to her college years. At just over 200 bucks, I think anyone would be hard-pressed to find a bike of this caliber.

Comments about Nashbar AT1 Women's Mountain Bike:

My daughter loves this bike! She has grown so much that the little kid bikes were too small and we didn't want to go with a big box retailer.

It was my first time building a bike and while most of it was together, I had a difficult time with the front brakes. I chatted with someone at Nashbar on the help center but didn't get much help other than an article posted by someone else on what front brakes should look like when finished. Thank goodness for youtube! I found a short video out there on what to do and it was smooth sailing from then on.

Now that I know how to do it, I need to buy a bike for me!

Comments about Nashbar AT1 Women's Mountain Bike:

I am a 52 year old woman who has not ridden a bike in years, and I have recently moved close to a Greenway and a park. Hope to use the bike for some recreation and exercise. I even put it together by myself (using youtube videos), because, the only issue I have is that the bike did not come with instructions on how to put it together. Since this is not my forte, I did, however, take it to a bike shop for a "once over" to make sure I had everything in line and the gears and brakes all set appropriately. I think this was a great buy and am happy about my new bike ownership.
