Comments about Nashbar AT2 Mountain Bike:

I purchased for my teen-age son who has had 2 previous high quality Trek Bikes that went for about $425. I think this bike is comparable to those and less expensive. The Shimano components work very well. The disk brakes work well, the spokes were all close in tension although I evened them off just a tad. The tires are reasonable quality and seat well to the rim and are round. I replaced the tubes with presta tubes using a bushing that you can get from Nashbar, they are easier to deal with if you are out of CO2 and have to use a hand pump. The instructions were funny, I guess some people do not know the left pedal is left-hand thread and ruin the crank arms. Assembly is real easy if you have worked with bikes or are reasonably mechanical. All you really need is a pedal wrench and a good set of hex wrenches. I truthfully expected less, this was just going to be a transition bike because he is growing so fast and it turned out to be real nice.

This is my first "real" mountain bike. I've got family and friends who are avid bike riders and they were thoroughly impressed by the bike, mostly its price. The fact that it's upgradeable makes it even better.

Comments about Nashbar AT2 Mountain Bike:

This was a gift for my son. He loves it. We did have to replace the seat; apparently the stocker is a real pain in the keister. The all black is really a slick look! I was surprised at how good it looked. The parts all went together well, though I did have to do a bit of fiddling with all the parts. That is to be expected though as the bike breaks in, so don't let that put you off. The one thing that did surprise me was the plastic crank arms. I am sure that they are plastic coated metal (I hope anyway) but time will tell how they stand up to heavy inputs. But I think that if he gets to the point that the cranks are flexing, we can always upgrade components. Overall, a great combination of parts for a good price.

Comments about Nashbar AT2 Mountain Bike:

Bought the product about a month ago. Assembly was okay, not having much experience in this area I watched a few YouTube videos and was set to go! (The Nashbar MTB assembly video is slightly misleading as some of the components were not put together as the video shows.) After some searching and looking it over, I was able to put it all together in less than 2 hours. Dialing everything in was a bit more work than I realized.

Disc brakes and derailleurs can be tricky if you're not informed or well versed. With a couple more YouTube videos I felt like I had a good handle on it!

Took it out in the neighborhood for a bit and had some issues with the slipping of gears in the mid range, oiled the chain and adjusted the derailleurs and it seemed to fix the issue!

Finally the test on some single track. Felt good for the first 3-4 miles of some moderate trails. But then the seat post started to strip. I'd hit a bump while sitting and it would shift back and forth, eventually loosening so much that I was unable to sit on the seat at all. Unfortunately I did not have a wrench handy to fix it, but found a maintenance guy getting ready to do some trail clearing and he was able to fix it...for the time being.

Not too long after the post started to move again, I took a pretty hard fall into some plants and the saddle came off of the frame for the seat. Knowing that in past reviews the seat was not highly rated, I should have switched it out, but I assumed it would be okay and not affect the overall performance of the bike. We figured something out with the seat that made the rest of the ride okay. (The saddle is plastic and doesn't hold up very well after a hard fall...you're welcome for testing this out!)

After all is said and done, I have some more tuning to do on the bike to get it to where I want it. The saddle is going to be replaced. I also upgraded the pedals as they were plastic as well. I love how this thing rides when all the components are working together. Great deal at this price!

Comments about Nashbar AT2 Mountain Bike:

I purchased this bike last year (2013) for my son and never had any regrets. Great value and have had no issues. He uses it to commute to school.

            Get this bike if:
            1) your want to upgrade your children to an adult bike, but make sure you get the right size;
            2) you want a starter mountain bike.

Some have complained that it's difficult to assemble, but found no problems. However, I feel comfortable changing brake pads on my cars. If you have no mechanical skills, just go to your local bike shop and pay for assembly or don't buy a bike online (I believe all online bike purchases require some assembly).

Biggest con is the bike is heavy. If you are concerned about bike weight, then you're probably a competitive rider and shouldn't be looking at this bike any way.

Great bike all the way around. Carefully unpacking and assembly took just under 2 hours and a few beers. No instructions, but intuitive to assemble. Seat is as soft as a brick, but expected that from other comments. disk brakes pulse. not sure if that is normal or not. cranks are plastic, hope they last. other than that, great bike, smooth and quiet. good looking too.

Comments about Nashbar AT2 Mountain Bike:

I purchased two of these bikes. One was for my wife, who is just learning how to mountain bike. The other is for my son to take to college, and is an avid rider.

These bikes are sturdy and can really take a beating. Right out of the box, they are easy to assemble, and have thus far been easy to maintain.

We had one small problem with the seat post on my son's bike. It bent during one of his rides (no crash or anything). I contacted Nashbar and they sent me a replacement post without any problems.

If you are looking for a good quality mountain bike on a budget I would highly recommend the AT2!

Great bike for the price. I bought it to replace a bike with a big frame that was way to big, that a bike shop talked me into. I bought the 15" frame. It's not much smaller than my old 17" frame. Seat is very hard and the pedals are a little cheaper. Luckily I am very mechanically inclined because it did not come with instructions and the handlebars were assembled at the factory backwards. It took me about 20 minutes to put together including fixing the factory handlebar mistake. I used to be a competitive tri-athlete (20 years ago) but just wanted to get back into Mountain biking inexpensively. This is a great bike for that!
