Great bike for the price. Seems very durable and lightweight for the price. Also called customer service because my lock didn't show up. It had been returned back to them because there was no apt number, but they fixed the problem and reshipped it.

Comments about Nashbar AT2 Mountain Bike:

Right before July 4th I was initially looking for a 24" Mountain Bike for my 10 & 12 year olds. When I was reviewing the measurements from the LBS 24" bikes I realized that they could easily fit on a SML/MED 26" with a quick seat adjustment and stem swap as there wasn't much difference in the measurements. At a July 4th party I was talking about all of my research and someone said "hey Nashbar has a 25% off coupon you should check them out", while I have ordered stuff from Nashbar previously I didn't think to check for bikes for my kids there. I am comfortable with intermediate bike mechanics and checked out the options. The AT-1 looked good but the slight upgrades on the AT-2 and the minimal cost difference made the AT-2 the perfect choice and with the 25% off coupon I ended up buying 2. How could I complain, even if the bikes were no better then "Big Box Store" bikes at the price I paid w/ free S/H I was already ahead of the game. The bikes showed up in just a few days, the boxes and packaging were very good with the bikes being well protected and unscathed. I had each kid help me unpack and build their own bikes. Even with the extra help ;) it didn't take more than 45 minutes to: Unpack, Clean/Lube/Assemble/Adjust and test ride each bike. The kids couldn't be happier, though my Daughter would have love another color other than black, I am sure she will "Customize" the looks of her AT-2 right quick....

Quality: I understood going into the purchase that the parts were not LBS quality, though I was happily surprised when it was all together, tuned, and rolling that the parts were just right for what it is a "Great Beginner Bike". I do see potential of keeping this frame for some time and upgrading the components to shave weight, increase efficiency, etc. as my children grow.

Weight: Is the bike heavy? Sure, it is very heavy compared to my High $$$ Full Suspension bike but weighs less than my fat bike and certainly less than the Chromoly Steel BMX bike I had in my youth. Though it feels heavy to lift it does not ride 'Heavy', my 10 and 12 yr olds are ripping around on these things like the stole them (Sorry Nashbar with the coupon and free S/H I feel like I stole them!!!)

What would I change: Initially nothing due to quality, all seems good for now. The stem will be replaced with a shorter one to trim up the reach for the kids and I may cut a few inches off the seat post so its not riding bottomed out. The Grips are nice but the kids are not sure about the Ergo-Grips as they are large might swap those out. As parts wear out or break I will make the changes.

In conclusion: if you are looking for a first 26" Mountain Bike and are comfortable wrenching your own bike (though an LBS would assemble for $ as well) consider the AT-2 (especially if Nashbar has another coupon) I would not recommend this bike for someone over 200lbs due to the fork quality and cheaper components though it could easily be upgraded with Nashbar replacement parts as items wear out, break or you are just looking to lighten the bike up a bit. Looking for a Mountain Bike to start off a Child or get yourself into the Sport, give Nashbar a shot and consider their AT-2 if your budget is under $500 DO NOT buy a bike from a "Big Box Store" if the AT-2 is an option.

Comments about Nashbar AT2 Mountain Bike:

My 12 year old save his lawn mowing money and chose this bike based on features verses price. The bike arrived in a week and was easy to put together. The disc brakes needed a little adjustment but was easy to do. For the price I told my boy he could afford to buy a few upgrades like a lighter crank and better pedals. But for now he plans on wearing out what it came with first. I personally LUV the all black look. My boy calls it his "get away bike"

I bought this for my son. I was surprised to see how nice the bike is. Not too hard to assemble. I couldn't find anything comperable for less than $600. The plastic pedals are lame. Invest 25-50 for some upgraded pedals & you're rockin!

This is my second Nashbar AT-2. The first held up well for 5 years. As some parts have worn, it is now my backup. The total price paid for both bikes is still less than many folks pay for one bike from other vendors.

Comments about Nashbar AT2 Mountain Bike:

Pretty awesome for the money. Miles above another sub $300 bike out there. Bought this bike to get into offroad mountain biking (trail riding). Went trail riding the other day (first time) and the bike was amazing, handles great, shocks are a bit soft for riding on road even when stiffened up. Bike is pretty heavy for long on road rides. Bike seems extremely durable also. Hitting small jumps, rolling over trees the thing held up nicely. Also it isn't too hard to build and is easy to learn. Video on YouTube on setting it up was a good help. Overall great bike and looking forward to hitting more trails this summer!!

great bike for the price. paid < $300 shipped when it went on sale. excellent parts for this price range.

biggest con: poor setup instructions. if you aren't familiar with modern bicycles and disc brakes and the like, the unboxing-to-riding time could be significant. however, if you are familiar, it's easy enough to figure out what goes where.

definitely recommended overall. i'm very happy with my purchase.

Great bike, came packaged nicely. A little difficult to build if you don't know what you're doing, that being said there is a video on YouTube by nashbar that walks you through it step by step. About a couple days after purchase, the chain seized up but it was an easy fix. I recommend getting a different seat though!
