Comments about Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike:

After a lot of research I decided to buy this bike thinking it would be a good value. For the most part I would say that it was, but there was one major problem. The bike came mostly assembled, but the assembly was done incorrectly, which caused me a great deal of time and aggravation. The cable to the rear derailleur was routed incorrectly so I had to completely disconnect it, cut the end cap off and re-run it the correct way then adjust the derailleur. I think the collection of components you get for the price is good, but if you're not mechanically inclined, or you don't want to spend a ton of time setting the bike up when you get it, you should include the cost of getting it set up and adjusted in your budget and decide if you still think it's a good deal.

Comments about Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike:

Assembly was pretty easy. Allen wrenches and screwdrivers were the only tools needed. A little experience is helpful. There is no adjustment for sizing on the height of the handlebars. The bosses for the water bottles are only for two. There is one screw location available on each wheel hub but, the frame is terrific and everything works perfectly. The narrow wheels and tires speed the bike along nicely. Because of the narrow wheels, wider tires don't work too well. I changed the crank set for a little lower gearing and more durability. I added a Brooks saddle, wider tires, fenders and racks. I changed out the handlebars to a touring (moustache) style and I now own a terrific, rugged and stable touring bike. For the money, this is a very good value and I couldn't be happier.

I ride our local rail trail 22 mi. daily (except for rain). Purchased this bike in the spring and rode it all summer without any problems, mechanical issues or need to make adjustments. I love this bike and do't know how you could find a better deal for and excellent bike with good components and great handling.

      Get what I paid for

Comments about Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike:

I assembled the bike in an hour, no instructions, today I took it for a ride and in 12 miles the tire gave up. Had a flat tire, sadly I didn't even brought my adapter valve, the wheel is a Presta Valve and if you do not have an adapter you cannot use it on a gas station to fill the tire with air. What I am saying here is that if you live in an environment that roads are nice and paved well this bike is good but I am in NYC where we have a lot of bad roads.

My 13 year old daughter has shown interest in road cycling with me. We split the cost of this bike, which was on clearance for a very affordable price. I was glad we could get her something of good quality for her to explore whether cycling is for her or not. We have been enjoying riding together. Thank you, Nashbar!

Comments about Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike:

I'd give it a one star because of the bad experience, but I can't because of the very fair/reasonable customer service. They worked with me because they ran out of stock for my 21inch frame size while in the return process matching the sale price I bought the flat bar road bike on and counted it towards any other bike from the website. They also gave me free shipping waiving the overweight shipping cost in addition to giving me free expedited shipping because I've been waiting three weeks now without a bike... At this point that's what I'm most disappointing about, but they did seem to genuinely care about their products and back them up with fair customer service. And for that I'm giving this a 3 star review as I think that's really important to know when buying a product online. So thumbs up in that department!
To explain what was wrong with the bike. I got the bike and the main bracket where the pedals and chain rings attach to where rotating horribly off in an oblonged manner. It was so bad the pedal's couldn't be spun without the chain significantly rubbing the derailer every rotation (I would be afraid of it derailing the chain with each rotation it was that bad bending the chain off a straight line so much).

Below, I can't recommend this bike to a friend if I was never able to ride the bike!

Comments about Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike:

I read the reviews here but didn't find many reviews on thrid part websites. The reviews here seemed to say" as good as a $500 name brand bike but without the name brand parts". No true at all. The bike is heavy and clunky the the green color is horrible. The parts are cheap. I do like the shimano parts, they may be low-end but they function well. I had a problem with the bottom bracket and support told me to take it to the local bike shop. Not such a good deal tacking on a bike repair bill right away. I do not recommend this bike. Go buy a cheap Giant.

Comments about Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike:

I was looking at the Trek 7 and 8 series bikes, which varied in price between $570 and $900 at a local bike shop. I have never owned a road bike before, but checked this site out based on a family member's suggestion. I took a shot on this (reviews were great, price was even better). So far, I have completed over 100 miles in 3 weeks, and I love this bike. I had a kickstand installed when the bike shop built it, and also picked up a gel seat (agreed with the other reviews that the stock seat was very uncomfortable). I use the bike mainly on the roads, it handles dirt/gravel better than I expected, but I only drive through that since some of the roads around here are rough from the winter. I have already recommended it to 2 people who are looking for a similar platform road bike.
