Comments about Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike:

Bought the bike as a commuter/ get around town bike. I live in hilly Seattle and this bike is great- large ring for the downhills, and granny ring for the uphills. I was a little skeptical about the flat bar at first, but love it, especially while wearing a backpack. I've commuted on down handles for years and my wrists hurt after long rides with the backpack. The handles are very comfortable, with a lot of meat where my palms rest.

I got the bike assembled in about 25 minutes, including a bunch of little adjustments. Still making little tweaks as I go, but so far no complaints.

Other people cited the brakes as being an issue. I have no problem locking up the wheels at any time, so I don't know what the concern is. The components on this are the same as bikes retailing for twice as much, and the look is awesome! All black wheels and a solid green frame, no decals- looks like a sweet custom bike that I spent months building myself. Don't tell anyone my secret :)

Comments about Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike:

Bought this for my young teen son to train for a bike trip. He has logged over 800 miles in last 3 months. We replaced the seat and toe clips early on. Seat was awful, and plastic clips didn't hold foot. Bike handles well and is easy to maintain. Minimal adjustment out of the box. Only complaint, besides seat, is weight. May consider a carbon fork to shed a few pounds. Price is excellent compared to name branded bikes. Very pleased overall with Nashbar.

Comments about Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike:

Good starter bike for commuting. You can upgrade the components you want without having to buy/pay for all upgrades. Some complain this is heavy but I can carry it up a flight of 20 stairs after a 6 mile commute which includes a HUGE hill. Customer service was prompt and courteous in sending our a wheel which was damaged in transit.

Comments about Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike:

Got the 17" for my wife who is 5'5". I'm 5'10" and its too small for me. She didn't like the women's mixte frame. It fits her well and she used it for her first triathlon and for a short commute to work a few times a week. The seat was pretty uncomfortable for me and for her. The front derailleur needed a little adjustment along with both sets of brakes. The wheels didn't need any adjustment. The tires are almost slicks with minimal tread pattern. Might switch the tires soon to something with some more tread and a little wider for the gravel paths. Rides pretty smooth and much faster that her giant cypress cruiser. The only item missing was screws for the white/red reflectors but I had extras.

Comments about Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike:

The components are of decent quality Names include Shimano and KMC. The bike is a definite good value for the money. I needed to contact customer service to have a wheel replaced which was damaged in transit. Excellent service and received the replacement promptly. The brake pads could be better so I replaced them with kool-stops. Pedals a little narrow but good quality; I replaced with platform pedals for my wide feet. The tires grip well but do not have much tread. Will need to replace rather quickly. Out of the box it rides well and is sort of a blank canvas on which to customize your ideal ride. Do yourself a favor and pay your local bike shop to assemble your bike and check all the fastener torques. You'll be glad you did. Once the bike is broken in its an absolute joy to ride. Smooth is a word I would use to describe it. Gets the killa' looks wherever I go.

Comments about Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike:

OK first thing; this does NOT compare with a bike selling at $500. If I paid $500 for this bike I would have been sorely upset. HOWEVER, for the asking price, this is a well put together bike with decent components. These days most bikes are built by the lowest bidder and value to you is the key in the end. The "Nashbike" as I so lovingly call it, comes "adorned" with a shimano drivetrain and KMC chain and that is about where the brand names end. The crank is riveted, tires nearly treadless and the brake pads are subpar. That being said, I would prefer the bike come with this grade of parts. It is a basic good solid bike that lets me upgrade the parts I feel are important to me Instead of buying something already customized to a stranger's liking and paying extra for upgrades I could give a hoot about (excessive lightweight components fit here). The frame and wheelset holds up to my 275 pound self dieseling up a daily 1/3 mile long 400 foot climb and 12 miles a day, 5 day a week round trip commute. When you buy this bike, have a bit of cash set aside for upgrades. You'll be glad you did. Do not forget to have the bike tuned after a couple hundred miles of break-in (spoke tension and retorque all fasteners) and you will not regret your purchase. I also needed to contact customer service by phone and e-mail and received remarkable service. THANK YOU NASHBAR! one last thing, some assembly was required. do nashbar a favor and if you do not know what you are doing, pay to have a pro assemble the bike for you, especially the threadless headset which you will need know how to set preload tension on the bearings. I frequently notice that people (including myself) tend to blame the manufacturer more often than user error. just my two cents. no offense anyone lets just be honest with ourselves on our mechanical abilities.

    Remarkably good buy

Comments about Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike:

I bought this bike to use indoors on my rollers and stationary trainer when the weather is inclement or too dark outside. I bought it during a 25% off sale and the price was ridiculously low, not far from a big-box store bike. What I got was a quality frame and a decent component spec that wouldn't be out of place on a bike store model that cost twice as much or more. I'm 5'11" 32-inch pant inseam and ordered the 19", and there is a ton of stand over. I probably would have ordered the 21" if I was going to use it on the street, but that stand over is nice when dealing with rollers and a trainer/rider block (I just use a lot of seat post). After assembly, all that was required was fit adjustment, some tuning of the front and rear derailleurs, and a few minutes with a spoke wrench on the rear wheel. It has been great for its intended purpose. It does have a very long wheelbase between the read triangle and the fork offset - 1065 mm - and I have to max out the rollers. Before this bike, I bought a single speed steel bike to train with from another 'direct bike' store for about the same money, and without going into details it was a disaster. The Nashbar is a much better bike and a better buy. I highly recommend it.

Comments about Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike:

I bought this bike because I wanted get into riding but with one income and a fourth coils on the way I had a very tight budget. I decided to give this bike a shot. I can't believe how nice this bike is! The components are amazing especially when you consider the price. If these were on a name brand bike you would pay close to double. I'm 6'4" 285 so I didn't know how comfortable the bike would be but again I was pleasantly surprised. I feel very balanced and supported and the bike handles very well. The only thing that could be improved is the seat and peddles. I switched them out right away and was up and going about an hour after it showed up at my door.

Overall this is a great bike for the money and I will definitely buy another nashbar bike in the future.
