Comments about Topeak Explorer Tubular Rack:

the mtx rack fit diamondback 29er with one 1/2" P clamp for the upright and on the other side thru the top brake mount with a 6mm x 20mm coarse thread bolt and one spring washer. Nashbar did not sell the seat post clamp, found a good one on abaxo.com the LCX for $5> get the size larger than you think as there is an inner ring in the clamp.
The topeak rack in the disk brake version fit the diamondback Lux well. The Topeak mtx rack and bag go well together, yet panniers are difficult to mount with the MTX bag, also the Topeak mega light doesn't ride well on the mtx rack or bag. Attaching another tab an inch higher on the bag keeps it from banging on the rack. the rack mount leaves the light in the mud as an extended fender, I mounted the plastic connector upside down to raise the light higher off the mud. Topeak makes good parts but the don't integrate w other Topeak parts as well as one might hope, Topeak customer service suggested I seat post mount the rear light behind the MTX bag which would defeat it's purpose... yep you get it, why doesn't Topeak?

Comments about Topeak Explorer Tubular Rack:

The rack fit my large frame and my wife's much smaller frame with the adjustable braces. We are using these with panniers and a top bag while preparing for a trip on the GAP and CO Canal. Bags easily strap on to this rack. Seems to be durable enough for our purposes.

Comments about Topeak Explorer Tubular Rack:

I don't have any bags with the MTX system, so I can't comment on the security of the track specifically. It looks like it would be secure, however, and I will update the review if I ever get a chance to test it.

Mounting was easy but on some bikes, you will have to bend the long brackets that attach to the seat stays in order to level and center the rack. They're flexible enough to take it. Unlike some other racks (the Blackburn, I believe) the rack is not vertically adjustable--it's the same height from the chainstays no matter what.

The other small niggle is in the mounting of the included taillight mount, which is just a glorified place to clip on a taillight/reflector if you don't have one that mounts with screws. This attaches by screwing a small machine screw through the bracket hole into the soft plastic backing of the mount, which seems less secure than it could be. I zip-tied through the other holes since I won't be using them. The clipping point is not as secure as I'd like; you can see and hear a taillight moving around on it. Though it won't fall off, it does tend to point down more than it should.

Comments about Topeak Explorer Tubular Rack:

Bought this as an accessory for the 16" frame Nashbar Mountain/Road hybrid bike, that I bought for my daughter.

I like Topeak brand gear; I find that the quality is good for all my purchases.

The rack comes in two models. Although the bike does have disk brakes, the regular (not disk mount) rack fit fine.

One thing that did not fit fine was the mounting bracket arms. With a smaller 16" frame, the included mountain bracket arms were way too short and would not meet the attachment point on the frame. I had to order separate extra long mountain bracket arms (a Topeak special part number). Nashbar actually doesn't have these extra long arms so I had to search and buy from the web. This meant that having everything available to actually do the installation took a couple of weeks.

I would not recommend this rack, because Topeak does not include both sets of mounting bracket arms.

A further dig is that the mounting bracket arms, because they need to bend, are somewhat flimsy. I could see them buckling under heavy use or load.

Comments about Topeak Explorer Tubular Rack:

I did not realize this before I started trying to mount it on my older sport/touring bike, but the rack requires seat stay bosses for mounting! That piece of information is clear in the included instructions but is not called out on Nashbar's site or any of the other internet shopping sites I saw the rack on.

I ended up putting it on my hybrid/comfort bike instead of the tourer I wanted to put it on. There are seat post boss adaptors out there, so at some point I'd like to pick up another Explorer and put it on the tourer. Then I'll be able to share MTX system bags/baskets between the two bikes.

Great price on this high-quality rack.
