Nashbar Double Track Pedals
If you designed your perfect all around trail pedal, what would it look like? Probably remarkably like the Nashbar Double Track mountain bike pedals. They're built around a large, beefy alloy body with replaceable screw-in pegs and an SPD-style clip-in system on one side of the pedal. They let you clip in when the trail is fast and smooth, or ride on the platform when things get more technical. They're also ideal for commuting or urban riding. They're like the Swiss Army Knife of MTB pedals.
  • Chromoly axle is stiff and durable
  • Large, alloy pedal body provides a wide, stable area for your foot to push against
  • Shimano SPD SH-51 cleat compatible system lets you clip in for more speed and an efficient pedaling motion (cleats included)
  • Replaceable screw-in pegs for improved grip on non-retention side
  • Drill outs and slots for toe cages and straps
  • Ideal for MTB or commuting

Comments about Nashbar Double Track Pedals:

I found that I couldn't clip into these with my new giro shoes. Solved the problem by removing the front part of the clip and putting 2 small nylon washers underneath the clip to raise it up slighly. Now clips in easily. These pedals work great for me. I find that I use the clipless side of the pedals more than I thought I would especially for slow speed work near stop lights. When clipped in they are very secure but still easy to get out of.

Yes they are heavier than non platform pedals. Still they are very durable and versatile. I have no problems with them and have them on two bikes.

Comments about Nashbar Double Track Pedals:

Well worth the money. They're a little bit fiddly to get clipped in, but not terrible, there's just a lot of platform to fumble around on. The platform side works better than it looks like it would. All around, one of the best values I've found lately in bike parts.

Comments about Nashbar Double Track Pedals:

The large pedal body makes these a little bit fiddly to clip into, but not horrible. Once clipped in they feel very secure. Even though I have the release tension set very light my feet haven't come unintentionally unclipped yet. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the flat side has pretty good grip despite the fact that it has so few pins. Overall I'd say these are well worth the price and I have no regrets.

Comments about Nashbar Double Track Pedals:

Coming from Time Atac pedals the SPD is new to me. The adjustment seems a bit finicky, but the platform size and peg grips are an exceptional help on techical trail rides and this seems to be the best of both worlds

Comments about Nashbar Double Track Pedals:

These pedals are a bit of change from my SPD Shimano pedals. I wanted a set a pedals that I could use with the SPD cleats yet could use without the cleats on short trips to the store. They are a bit difficult to clip into my shoes as I have cleats that enable me to walk a bit in them. But for the money and the purpose these are exactly what I wanted Nice construction.

          Tight clip, won't slip

          By Sasquatch

          About Me Avid Cyclist

Comments about Nashbar Double Track Pedals:

I used two pairs of these over the past two years, 2014-2015. I ride year-round with Lake MX236 mountain shoes in the summer and Lake MXZ303 boots in the late fall, winter and early spring.

I got 5900 miles out of the first pair before the right front clip broke cleanly. The second set, I only got 980 miles before the exact same break on the right front clip. As you might have guessed, I typically unclip only on the right side at stop signs and signals.

I sent both pairs back and they were replaced minus the return shipping cost, so that's fair to me.

These clip in very tight compared to the SOHO pedals. With the SOHOs, I also set the tension to minimum, but on high torque my foot would slip out. I have these set for minimum tension plus one thread or so, and there is a break-in period of difficult clip-in, but I've never had a slip-out under torque. The replacement pedals I got in March 2016 seem to have slightly heavier clips. Not sure if they changed the width of the stamped piece or used thicker stock, but I'll be interested to see how they wear.

I also prefer these pedals over the SOHO for riding with non-cleated boots or tennis shoes. Very good grip with set screws on the non-clip side.

About the only times I ride with tennis shoes are 1) A quick trip to a neighborhood location or 2) A distance ride if my panniers are full and I'm going somewhere I have to walk a lot. For example, tailgating at a baseball game.

Comments about Nashbar Double Track Pedals:

I bough these to put on the stationary trainer. Neither my Shimano nor the Giro ( I bought my wife in the same oder from Nashbar) will clip in. I have hundreds of rides and clip in about without thinking. The problem is these do not allow the pedal binding into the shoe. The pedal structure prevents the cleat from entering the binding.

            Sending them back.

As the other reviewer mentioned, pedal frame interferes with the shoe. Otherwise the pedals seem to be OK, but not being able to clip in my mountain bike shoes is a deal breaker.
