Replaced my old SPD pedals & immeadately noticed the difference. They're extremely light, but secure. Most important, they click in & out easily. I only wish that I replaced my old pedals sooner.

Comments about Nashbar Alpe D'Huez Pedals:

After many years, needing to replace my SPD's I gave these a try and I do like them. Light, a large cleat and a large platform. They are easy to get into and out of, once I got used to the change from the SPD's. While the pedals seem to hold up well, the cleats do wear out being a plastic material so you need to plan to replace them. I did the first time at 6 months and 2700 miles. When you replace be sure you get a Keo compatible cleat, not Nashbar NA-RAC which are not compatible.

Comments about Nashbar Alpe D'Huez Pedals:

Nice pedals to get in and out of, but they can only be installed and removed with an Allen wrench. My old pedals came right off with a pedal wrench after being on for 25+ years. I greased the threads on these pedals as recommended before installing and after two weeks I had to heat the crank arms with a torch to get them off. I thought I was going to break the Allen wrench trying to take them off even after heating the crank arms. An extended Allen wrench doesn't give enough leverage to easily remove the pedal without flexing the wrench. Poor design.

Comments about Nashbar Alpe D'Huez Pedals:

After the bearings wore out on my Look Keo peddles I thought I'd try the Nashbar Alpe D'Huez replacements. So far I like them as much as the Keos and at 1/4 the price I can buy a new pair every year for 4 years.

Comments about Nashbar Alpe D'Huez Pedals:

These replaced my old metal Nashbar Ventoux (I think?) pedals once one side's bearing wore out. These are much lighter weight, nice matte black finish, understated logo. Easy to install, bearings seem well adjusted—not too tight or loose. I don't know if the bearings are serviceable down the road, but if I get 6k miles out of these like I did on my old $35 Nashbars, thats cool with me.

                Two very minor gripes:
1.) The product photos show Delta style pedals with these, which was part of their appeal to me, I had delta cleats on my shoes that worked with my old pedals (and like three extra pairs of delta cleats still in bags). These however use a Keo style cleat. Not really a big deal, but I didnt anticipate mapping new cleats to my shoes, and I didn't know to order spare cleats at the same time.

2.) Maybe this is normal and my old pedals were just junky, but once clipped in, the float is VERY evident. Meaning you can very very easily swivel your feet around on the platforms, for their 4.5 or 9° float or whatever the grey cleats give you. Not to the point that you unclip unintentionally, but it was a little weird at first. It felt like my foot was going to unclip itself accidentally. A dozen rides and I don't notice it anymore. I tightened the release tension, but I think the plastic cleat on the plastic (I mean, carbon!) platform is just slick regardless. Theres a rubber knob that sits in the cleat as shown, but it doesnt raise above the surface of the cleat to actually contribute any grip.

Overall, super pedal, would highly recommend.

Comments about Nashbar Alpe D'Huez Pedals:

In considering these compare them to the alternatives, namely Look brand pedals. These have the same cleat contact area as KEO 2 Max pedals (albeit without the metal plate), weigh 20 grams less per pedal and cost $60 to $70 less per set.

Expect the contact surface to wear out before the rest of the pedal, but based on its predecessor of similar material, the Izoard, you'll get 8-10,000 miles out of these. By that time the bearings in any pedal would be questionable and the locking mechanism will be worn. You can get three of these for one KEO 2 Max, and they weigh less.
