Nashbar Ultegra Road Bike

Nashbar has got the new aluminum series road bikes in for 2013 and they are looking lean, mean and ready to drop the competition--we're talking about the same material, technology, and components as the industry's top brands.

The Nashbar Ultegra Road Bike sports a T6-6061 custom-butted aluminum frame with a tapered 1 ½"- 1 ⅛" headtube. While carbon fiber may be the go-to choice these days for frame material, there's no reason to erase road cycling's lengthy love affair with metal as aluminum serves up an enviable combination of light weight, stiffness, durability, and ride quality at an eye-poppingly appealing price point. This frame sports super clean lines, immaculate welds, plus a nice touch in an internally-routed rear brake cable through the top tube. We pulled out all the stops with the fork as it's full carbon fiber through and through while its tapered steer tube delivers race-level steering and acceleration response.

There's a bevy of awesome components spec'd throughout this aluminum steed and nothing shines as brightly as the inclusion of Shimano Ultegra 6700 10-speed parts. They're spec'd where they count the most -- as the shifter/brake lever as well as the rear derailleur. Ultegra has benefitted greatly from the trickle-down effect of technology from Shimano's flagship Dura-Ace group and the shifting and brake modulation in the STI levers is downright exquisite. The Tiagra front derailleur does yeoman's work of moving the chain between the chainrings while the Ultegra 10-speed rear derailleur is the epitome of Mr. Reliable.

Shimano also produces remarkable wheels and the RS10s on board are a force to be reckoned with. Their 24mm-deep aluminum rims strike a balance between aerodynamics and handling while stainless steel bladed spokes, 16 front and 20 rear, will slice through the wind with glorious ease. These hoops may sound like they're more appropriate just for race day, but rest assured that they're sturdy and reliable enough to be put through the paces day-in and day-out. These wheels deserve some top notch rubber, too, and the Hutchinson Equinox 2 tires are a true all-around, all-weather performer with dual compound treads and a compliant, resilient casing.

Another component highlight is the Full Speed Ahead Gossamer compact crankset with a complementary Full Speed Ahead Mega XO bottom bracket. The compact 50/36T crankset ensures you've got gears low enough to scale the wickedest ascents around while still having enough top end to uncork a rip roaring county line sprint.

This Nashbar road bike is more than ready to get you into some Cat 4/5 racing, gran fondo riding, or to help you dominate the friendly weekend hammer-fest with your buddies. Just add pedals and enjoy the ride.

Comments about Nashbar Ultegra Road Bike:

Just got this today. Great deal for Turkey Day. Put together rather easy. Make sure you have your torque wrench handy to go over all the main bolts-duh. Stem is carbon. Upon completing the quick build, took her out for quick spin- sub 10 mile ride up a 30 minute hilly route. First thing to notice was it was quiet, way quiet. Upgrading from a single speed with a carbon fork, seat, etc this was very surprising.
Next was going thru the gears, again a joy to have and the speeds quickly went up. I did not take a speedo no heart rate monitor as this was just to get a feel of the bike.
BB and crank was the same size that I had on the other bike, so this was also a nice upgrade from the single speed.
Items tossed aside- saddle favor for a FIzik Antares VS white and grey
Seat looks like a copy of a Fizik Aliante with no logo/graphic

The only con is the bar tape, it's cheap and white. This is too much for my liking, so will be adding black tape over it for more cushion and hide any dirt/grime.
Top head tube and forks are aero design (bladed forks) and look nice.

I did have to sticker it up to make it mine, so it's one of a kind now ;)

Comments about Nashbar Ultegra Road Bike:

I can't tell you how impressed I am so far with this bike for the money. I've only ridden it about 35 miles so far, but everything works great after a few adjustments (IE seat height, location of seat on the post).

I checked out my local bike shop before buying this bike, and they wanted from $1500-$2000 for a similar package of components and frame. I decided to give this bike a chance for about $800 on sale, and it's a great bike. It shifts almost imperceptibly, rides smoother than my old bike, and seems to be just as sturdy as my Cannondale that I finally had to retire after 13 years (either that or spend at least $500 to fix it..didn't make sense to me).
I'm reserving judgement on the seat, it's not too bad, but as I said, I've only ridden it 35 miles.
As for assembling the bike, very easy. Just put the handle bars and seat on, adjust for your body/comfort, and go. The only thing I had to "fix" was the headset, it just needed a 5 minute tightening (it was clunking). Check the internet for this and other adjustments.
Also, the Nashbar video on Youtube showed that you have to connect the break cables..mine came attached already, so one less thing to deal with.
All in all I'm very happy to pay less than half for what the bike shop wanted. Time will tell how it holds up, but nothing feels cheap about it, so I expect it to last a long time.

Comments about Nashbar Ultegra Road Bike:

I got this for myself as my first road bike. I average about 300 miles a week on it and couldn't be happier. I replaced the seat immediately so can't attest to that. I had a loose headset initially because it wasn't assembled properly, my LBS fixed the issue and Nashbar covered the cost. The bike is around 17 pounds without bottles. Considering the amazing group set, this bike is a steal. Good vibration absorption, strong wheels that can handle wheelies and bunny hops. The brake pads could be better.

Comments about Nashbar Ultegra Road Bike:

I bought this bike to ride and use for regular rides as well as triathalons. Ive only ridden it for 300 miles within the past week, but it works really well. The shifters are smooth and the bike handles well when on my clip-on aero bars. The brakes could be a little better, but for the amount I spent on this bike, I couldnt ask for more. I bought it during one of the 20% off and free shipping sales. So for under $800 this is a great bike so far.

Comments about Nashbar Ultegra Road Bike:

I ride 3-4 times per wk.40-50 mi.total, and find this bike to be all I could want! It has a compliant, responsive frame and the ultegra group is great as usual. With the carbon fork you will get a comfortable ride. I replaced an older high end Trek, and find this bike a better handling more responsive ride. One of the more important reasons I got this bike is, major brands do not pair aluminum frame with Ultegra shifting group!

Comments about Nashbar Ultegra Road Bike:

I average about two rides per week right now, but try to get in 50-100 miles per week. I have ridden this bike about 80 miles so far. It was exceptionally smooth in the ride and shifting. I bought it as a backup bike while my carbon bike is being repaired, because I cracked the carbon top tube. It weights-in at approximately 22lbs with all my stuff on it, ie; tail light, seat bag and cell phone holder. I can tell the higher weight difference when climbing, but I was pleasantly surprised with how fast it was going downhill. The finish is very good, the handlebar tape is cheap and I replaced it, the seat is not as uncomfortable for me as others have mentioned, the tires are useless and I replaced them with Vitorria Rubino tires and they ride well and the wheels are a little over 4 lbs., but appear to ride okay. They were out of true when I got them, so I had them tweeked at the LBS. The brakes are okay if you respect their stopping nature. With the Ultegra rear derailleur and shifters and Tiagra front derailleur, you really cannot go wrong for the price. By changing-out the handlebar tape and the tires, the bike is quite nice. I did have to tune the derailleurs, but I did it myself and the shifting is exceptionally quite. I can hardly hear the chain.

Comments about Nashbar Ultegra Road Bike:

Another dad purchasing for his son. Lucky kids! This bike has everything I wanted for him (including compact crankset, while the 105-equipped bike has a triple) and priced far lower than name brands. Like other Nasbar bikes, this arrived quickly in fine shape, and was simple to set up. A visit to LBS got my son his first shoes/pedals and a thorough fitting, including swapping out the stem for something shorter. During a brief test drive (it's still cold here in Boston!) I loved the ride, even compared to my carbon frame. Handling is terrific, ride is supple and solid. I recommend replacing the tires with 25s once they wear out. This bike is another Nashbar winner!

Bought this bike for my son. Before giving it to him, had to take it out for a test ride. 75 miles later and two 2000 foot climbs, this bike rocks. Handles extremely well almost as good as my Cervelo. Fast and light.

      Lightweight. Easy to assemble.
Did replace the brakes Ultegra breaks.
Also replaced the saddle with a Sella Italia gel flow

Other than that this bike is well-equipped.

Comments about Nashbar Ultegra Road Bike:

I really enjoyed my first ride over the weekend.
Al frame, with carbon forks provided a smooth, comfortable ride. FSA stem is 100m and that's a little long for my torso, so I'm planning on swapping in a 60mm. Recommend you get the rear derailleur adjusted at a LBS prior to riding so you don't throw your chain like I did. (My fault, not the bikes.) All in all, I would buy it again.
