Nashbar Trekking Bike
Trekking feels better when you're on a lightweight aluminum frame, an excellent suspension fork, Shimano drivetrain components, and 24 speeds of climbing, top-end, and long distance options.

The Nashbar Trekking Bike brings together all the best of the cycling world. You get nice, big 700c wheels for efficiency, control, and obstacle clearing, but you also get slick tires that are skinnier than mountain bike tires so you can still assault roads and streets without losing all your energy in the tires. Plus the Suntour suspension fork means you're ready for a little off-road, curb hopping, and gravel/dirt path riding when it suits you.

The Shimano drivetrain gives you quick, efficient, and low-maintenance shifting...so you're never left skipping gears on a steep climb; and alloy riser bars and stem keep you more upright in the saddle so it's always comfortable on your joints and back.

  • Aluminum frame is lightweight, strong, and corrosion resistant
  • Suntour 700c fork gives you 50mm of travel to absorb road bumps comfortably
  • Shimano drivetrain is smooth, responsive, and dependable
  • Upright geometry keeps you more upright for better riding comfort
  • Slick 700c tires are efficient and smooth on roads, gravel, and dirt
  • Mountain bike style bars provide excellent control and 360 degree visibility

    Comments about Nashbar Trekking Bike:

Got this bike to ride with the kids so I didn't have to borrow one or use my road bike.
Note on the size, I'm 5'8" and got the 17" which is perfect. (Chart recommended 19"...glad I called)
I've only had it a couple weeks, but so far very pleased with the purchase. I got this on sale so the value was great for an Al bike with Shimano components.I didn't want a heavy department store bike with lousy grip shift. I normally do the minor adjustments on my bike and found this was real easy to get together (yes there are no instructions)about 30 min. Slapped the wheels, handlebar and seat on; attached the cable for the front brake and was pretty much on my way. To my surprise the shifting was functional, though both derailleurs need some minor tweaking to work a little smoother.
I could see using this for some light trails/mountain biking, but nothing to intense.
Perfect for what I wanted, rides around town and through the wooded trails with the kids!

All comments regarding WOMEN's Treking bike frame. The bike is rock solid, and has great value for price. No instructions, so you will need a bit of knowledge to put together - not for a novice! Changed out the seat to get wider, cushier ride. Womens frame only has one spot for water bottles. Womens frame will NOT ACCEPT CENTER MOUNTED KICK STAND. Adjustable handle bars, and seat, make this up right rider very comfortable.

      Update on the tires

        Comments about Nashbar Trekking Bike:

I commented about the tires in my last review of this bike and said that I would probably replace them with smoother tires. Don't think so any more. We had a thunderstorm last night and this morning there was still a lot of rain on the road. I though that I would arrive at my office with a stripe down my back. Didn't happen. The engineering design of these tires is outstanding. I drove through two inch deep, half-a-block-long "puddles" at a safe speed this morning and the design of the tires channeled the tire spray low and away from the bike. There was essentially no spray at all around the tire and vertically into the air, or my back. I now love these tires!

          Comments about Nashbar Trekking Bike:

This is my second Nashbar bike purchase. I bought my wife an AT2 mountain bike last year. I was so happy with the quality of that bike that I ordered this for me.

I'm a 64 year old bike commuter. After run-ins with auto drivers who don't see bikes in intersections and the resulting back surgeries and neck surgery I decided that I wanted a bike that would let me assume a more upright riding position. Assembly was quick and painless although I did spend about 30 minutes tuning the front derailleur so that it would shift noiselessly across the full range of gears. No matter how much I tightened the seat post clamp the seat post still gradually sunk into the seat tube (probably too much lubricant in the seat post from the factory). Light sanding of the seat post with fine emery cloth seems to have solved that problem. I put 100 miles on the bike in the first five days and it is working great. I will eventually replace tires that have a rather aggressive tread pattern with road tires because all of my riding is on paved roads and trails.

Love the bike and I even appreciate the low key paint job.

            Comments about Nashbar Trekking Bike:

Easy assembly: Attached seat, handlebars and front wheel to the frame. Adjusted front brakes. No adjustment needed on derailleurs or rear brakes. Adjusted seat and handlebars several times until very comfortable riding. I did change the seat to one which is wider and more comfortable for my 70 year old butt. I'll give the seat away to a younger rider. Bicycle seat choice is always a personal rider-specific decision.

              Comments about Nashbar Trekking Bike:

I have been a Nashbar customer for decades. When it became apparent to me that my road biking days are mostly behind me, I looked here first. This trekking bike caught my eye; good price and a holiday discount. I am big (6'5") with long legs. I am very comfortable on this bike. Decent seat, easy, well functioning gears, and an adjustable stem are nice features. Assembly was not hard, for someone comfortable with wrenching their own bike. It seems well engineered and well built. Not bombproof, but sturdy enough. I will be interested to see how it rides for something in the 40 to 60 mile range. So far great for what I intend to use it for. I just rode it on the carriage roads at Acadia National park and it was perfect.

Life long cyclist and builder turning 70. My road bike lasted 39 years with many updates, but I really need the comfort at this point. Almost wish I could have used some of the specialty tools that I accumulated over the years, but a couple common wrenches did the job. This is a really well made bike and after several miles, I'm sure it will fit my needs quite well.

                  Comments about Nashbar Trekking Bike:

I spent a lot of time researching my hybrid bike purchase. Nothing came close to the Nashbar Trekking bike in terms of value. This is a solid bike with very decent components. Assembly was a breeze. The hardware required a bit of adjustment to make the bike fit and function properly, just watch a few YouTube videos on how to fit and adjust these bits. All in all, I couldn't be more pleased with the bike I got for the money I spent.

Leisure use with family. I pull a weehoo with my 2 yr old and this bike delivers the best performance for the money. I didn't want to spend big money on a bike but didn't want a big box store type. This met my requirements, delivered to my house, assembly took about an hour, and comes with quality components.
