Nashbar Trekking Bike
Trekking feels better when you're on a lightweight aluminum frame, an excellent suspension fork, Shimano drivetrain components, and 24 speeds of climbing, top-end, and long distance options.

The Nashbar Trekking Bike brings together all the best of the cycling world. You get nice, big 700c wheels for efficiency, control, and obstacle clearing, but you also get slick tires that are skinnier than mountain bike tires so you can still assault roads and streets without losing all your energy in the tires. Plus the Suntour suspension fork means you're ready for a little off-road, curb hopping, and gravel/dirt path riding when it suits you.

The Shimano Altus/Acera drivetrain gives you quick, efficient, and low-maintenance shifting...so you're never left skipping gears on a steep climb; and alloy riser bars and stem keep you more upright in the saddle so it's always comfortable on your joints and back.

  • Aluminum frame is lightweight, strong, and corrosion resistant
  • Suntour 700c fork gives you 50mm of travel to absorb road bumps comfortably
  • Shimano drivetrain is smooth, responsive, and dependable
  • Upright geometry keeps you more upright for better riding comfort
  • Slick 700c tires are efficient and smooth on roads, gravel, and dirt
  • Mountain bike style bars provide excellent control and 360 degree visibility

          Comments about Nashbar Trekking Bike:

This bike was very easy to assemble. There were no adjustments to be made other than the front brake that needs to have the cable attached and cut to length. The wheels were true out of the box. Remember that the pedals need to be attached to the correct side or you will strip the threads trying. I am a runner and use this bike for some low impact training when needed. A bike with similar components at a shop would cost hundreds more.

            Comments about Nashbar Trekking Bike:

Bought the bike to commute to work. Have limited miles on it at this time due to the cold weather-but it shifts very well rides comfortably and is lightweight. I never had anything but road bikes and I'm thrilled at the experience and I'm looking forward to riding with my grandkids now, off-road. I hope they can keep up. I appreciate the direct and honest reviews from others they helped me decide on this particular bicycle.

              Comments about Nashbar Trekking Bike:

This bike was purchased as a replacement for my Cannondale mountain bike that was stolen about 4 months ago. I was using the Cannondale as a commuter 5 days a week to ride to work and back. It's a very hilly ride with some stretches of gravel. Although the Cannondale was an excellent bike it was not the fastest or most comfortable ride for commuting. I wanted a bike that was faster, more comfortable and generally more suited for the type of riding I was doing without breaking the bank. I have to say I could not be more pleased with my choice to purchase the Bike Nashbar Trekking bike! The bike is fast, nimble, comfortable and a joy to ride. I've owned bikes costing 6 times what I paid for this. This and a dual suspension Iron Horse I had built up for extreme riding are my all time favorites for obvious different reasons. The parts spec is excellent with as close to flawless shifting as I have experienced with the xt, xtr set ups I have grown accustomed to using. It is light weight for this type of bike. Unlike many bikes set up like this the 50 mm front fork actually works for smoothing out the bumps and potholes. It's surprisingly supple and does not pogo like most I've tried. The suspension seatpost works equally well. The seat is probably the most comfortable I've used and is perfect for commuting. This bike is fast enough that I purchase a carbon fiber seat post and racing saddle to use on the days I just want to feel the speed. The adjustable stem is great to set up for a more aggressive riding position and gives you the feeling of a much higher end road bike. I did have some problems with the peddles. I kept getting popping and clicking when the drive train was under stress. LOTS of WD40 sprayed directly into the peddle bearings solved the problem. Even if I had to replace the peddles I would have still given this bike 5 stars. It's a killer deal!

                Comments about Nashbar Trekking Bike:

I'm very happy with this bike. I had done a lot of shopping around and had pretty much settled on one of a couple DiamondBack models. Then as I was looking for a good retailer for the DB bikes I discovered Nashbar and this bike and I was impressed. It has the same or better components as the DB bikes I was looking at and so it seemed like an excellent deal. I went for it.

I was a little more rusty at bike assembly and maintenance than I thought I was (it's been 15 years or more so I should have anticipated that) so it took longer for me to assemble and tune the bike than I expected. But I got it done without any issues and I've been riding almost every day since. The bike feels very nimble and quick compared to my old MTB.

I'm planning on ordering another NB-TRK in a few days for a family member.

It's been very comfy & stable, at a great price. I've added a rear rack, tire liners & drilled the rim valve holes so it can take schrader tubes - mine came with prestas.

Haven't taken any really long rides with it yet, but it'll prolly work out AOK.

                        Comments about Nashbar Trekking Bike:

I wanted to let everyone know that the bearings were way too tight on both wheels. When they are too tight they will wear down faster and it will be harder to peddle. Checking the front bearing was easy since the wheel is off the bike when it arrives, I waited a couple days before checking the rear, but it too was tight. I don't think most bike shops will tune the bearings, you would have to ask I think. I originally got the 19" model and it was way too big (5ft9" 28" inseam) The 17" is a good fit and is on the big side for me. I only checked the front bearing on the 19" and it was way too tight, too bad I wasted time one the 19" and the bearing, I should have check that the bike fit before doing any extra work on it.
Front and rear dereailers needed tuning, a bit of a pain, I didn't realize there were cable microadjusters. For the front dereailer the microadjuster is on the handle, for the rear its on the derailer.
Only small adjustments were made to the brake pads.

Youtube has plenty of videos for doing all the adjustments. If you not sure watch a bunch from different authors.

I 1st purchased a Schwinn which had some serious design flaws. The team at Nashbar was quick to get me a return authorization and a credit back. I bought this bike and it has worked out great. Easy to build and comfortable to tide.

Husband bought this bike for himself because he no longer had fun on his mountain bike. I put it together and realized it's much nicer than I would have thought for the price- or even double this price. So he bought one for me. Two allen wrenches, one 17 mm wrench was all it took. I had my derailleurs adjusted at my local shop, which I would have done anyhow if I'd bought a bike there. This bike is much lighter than I thought it would be, not clunky like some other inexpensive hybrids with suspension, it is a pleasure to ride. Shifting is just as smooth and reliable as my old Deore DX. We are both riding much more than we had in the recent past, this bike is so much more comfortable.

                              Comments about Nashbar Trekking Bike:

I received this bike as a birthday gift. It is the second bike I got from Nashbar. My previous bike was stolen. At 69 and 260 lbs, I needed to get back in shape. Having had a several mountain bikes and road bikes, I needed a bike to handle my weight but more road comfortable. This bike fits the bill. The shifters are handlebar shifters as opposed to grip shifters. I had ordered a comfort seat which I returned because the seat that comes with the bike is very comfortable. The seat post is a suspension seat post.
When I got the bike, 3 adjustments needed to be made:
the stem attached to the handlebar was backwards
the front wheel needed to be trued
front derailleur needed adjustment (my previous bike needed both the front & rear derailleurs adjustment)
Another added touch was the adjustable stem, which allows you to adjust your riding angle to your satisfaction. I was surprised that the rear derailleur was adjusted correctly. The 700 tires are perfect for road riding with little discomfort. PLEASE NOTE: these are directional tires. Make sure you mount the wheel in the proper direction the arrow shows.
In short this is a great bike for the price and comfort.
