Ascent Fluid Trainer

Bring your indoor workouts to new heights with the Ascent Fluid Trainer - the perfect purveyor of quiet, smooth resistance on a rock solid frame. The fluid resistance unit provides a progressive, high intensity workout that will have you feeling the burn in no time. That's the beauty of the fluid unit - there's no need to worry about clamping a lever to your handlebars to adjust resistance as you simply use your bike's gears plus vary your pedaling RPMs to vary the workout intensity. It really does replicate what it feels like to ride outside! And it's quiet enough that you can enjoy whatever media you prefer while training without having to jack up the decibels to overcome an incessant, irksome drone.

It comes fully assembled out of the box, so just put the skewer in your rear wheel (the included rear skewer is optimized to fit into the fluid trainer's support cups - what you have already may not fit), clamp your bike into the frame and start pedaling away. This fluid trainer is perfect for indoor training at home when weather or lack of daylight puts a damper on riding outdoors and it's also portable enough to be the perfect means for getting warmed-up and ready to rock at a race.

  • Fluid resistance unit utilizes a steel flywheel to create a smooth, road-like feel for your indoor cycle training workouts
  • Steel frame folds to a compact size making it easy to store or transport
  • Rubber feet dampen noise and vibration
  • Includes a steel quick release skewer

      Comments about Ascent Fluid Trainer:

Very affordable. The resistance unit is smooth and progressive. I sold my CycleOps trainer thinking I wasn't going to use a trainer anymore, but quickly regretted it. Bought this one to replace it and I am quite impressed. Also my first time buying from Nashbar, or anything online. I'm very happy with the entire experience. New wheels are next.

the first time I used the trainer I was surprised how smooth and natural it felt to use. It's easy to adjust the resistant on the unit. I recommend purchasing a floor mat to put under the unit to catch your sweat.

Much quieter and much more resistance than my air trainer

          Comments about Ascent Fluid Trainer:

I had an air trainer last winter and I could deal with the noise and the lack of resistance but decided it would be nice to have a quieter training experience. I was surprised how much quieter this is! I can watch and listen to training videos at about the same volume as while just watching TV. The resistance is about 4-5 times more than the air trainer. I am now maxing out at 90% of my max heart rate in my small chain ring in front and 5th cog in back. I was on the big chain ring and 12 tooth to get that heart rate on the air trainer. A much more enjoyable experience. This trainer is a bit choppy for the first minute or two but smooths out nicely for the rest of the training session.

I love this trainer. It is my first trainer I've used and after reading the reviews I'm glad I chose this one. Great price and great product. I've owned it almost a year and have used it extensively during the winter when dark comes early and I'm not able to get off work.

                Comments about Ascent Fluid Trainer:

The resistant is very close to actual road riding, however it is very difficult to put the bike on it due to the knob is very stiff on the last couple turns when backing it all the way out. It would be nice if it has a quick latch system. Other than that it worth every single penny.

The instructions were not very clear how to mount the QR skewer in the mounts. I must have gotten it correct as nothing has fallen apart...so that's good!
Otherwise, pretty basic, not hard to use. I've only used a few times so far, so don't have much experience to write about.

                    Comments about Ascent Fluid Trainer:

After some research and reading the reviews on this trainer I decided to give it a try. So far I am really happy that I did! I did not need to use the provided skewer my Jamis Quest fit just fine. I will have to agree with most of the reviews. It is a little choppy until it warms up which is relatively quickly. It is a little noisier than I expected based on reviews but it is not obtrusively so. It is quite stable. My only suggestion would be to not follow the directions on setting the resistance of the roller. It has taken much less to achieve a good road feel and it does provide that. I have used the trainer 4-5 times since I bought and I am thoroughly pleased.
