Comments about Lake CX226 Road Shoes:

After reading reviews decided to try the Lake shoe because most Lake shoes have a larger toebox area - not this one. My Bontrager shoes have more room. I returned these and purchased Northwave as a replacement - much better.

Have just used on two rides thus far. Shoe easy on and off. Seems a bit loose when initially put on and tightened, but BOA system will take up slack many times and can be tightened as firmly as I would like. No toe numbness.

Comments about Lake CX226 Road Shoes:

The forward half of my foot is wide while the back is normal. I seldom find a set of shoes that doesn't leave me almost crippled after a long hard ride. These lakes are the outstanding exception. I have never had a more comfortable ride ending one of the local centuries with very much climbing with no foot pain whatsoever. What a relief!

Comments about Lake CX226 Road Shoes:

Exceptional fit. Really like the roomy toe box. My previous Diadoras would pinch my toes just a bit and on a long ride could get to be a bit uncomfortable. These Lakes are very comfortable - I could wear them all day. Easy to adjust snugness on the fly.

Comments about Lake CX226 Road Shoes:

Wanted to venture into the BOA system. Now I understand why Sidi and other top ends use a double boa and/or boa with a velcro system. Unfortunately with a single boa the entire shoe is tightened at the same specs across the 3 points. I like the toe box to be a little loose. With these they are either tight everywhere or a bit to loose everywhere. If I crank to the preferred specs in the middle and top the bottom is too tight and it creates numbness and hot spots for me. If you like a tight fit at every point these are great shoes. If not, PASS!!!

Comments about Lake CX226 Road Shoes:

I have wider feet, and Lake is known to offer wider toe boxes. I also own a >10 yrs old pair of really excellent MTB shoes from Lake that are still in really great shape despite 1000s of miles of abuse.
A recent upgrade to a new pair of MTB shoes made me realize that Lake offers on their homepage very accurate measuring ans sizing instructions (width and length). After receiving a pair of excellently fitting and well-built MTB shoes, I *had* to upgrade my road shoes and got these shoes.

They are another perfect fit, very comfortable, well built, and of high quality (very soft leather, well ventilated, stiff sole, BOA,...).
I did not expect BOA to be such an improvement over Velcro straps. Very even pressure, no constrictions, great power transfer.
Had I discovered BOA before, I would have bought the Lake BOA MTB shoes on sale, too. Well, live and learn...

Comments about Lake CX226 Road Shoes:

Like all the reviews say, the boa system is GREAT. Regular price is well below other boa road shoes; these are NOT cheap - real leather upper, quality build. The dial is on the back vs the side, which may affect the wire tension somehow, but it makes for a clean shoe and easy to reach & adjust. As others have noted the toe box IS wider...which was great for me with a little wider foot. This does tend to put a bit more tension near the top of the foot as you dial down, but it hasn't been a problem. I wear 10.5 US and the 44.5 size is spot on; might do 44 if you have narrow feet. No races yet, but I have done some transition practice and YES they will work well for triathlon.

Comments about Lake CX226 Road Shoes:

Bought these as others said that the toe box was a little larger than other brands and this proved to be correct. Have worn them a couple of times at this point and have been pleasantly surprised at how good they have felt (vs. some fairly inexpensive Sidis I have). The ratchet system for lacing is certainly a leap from velcro but works well. Leather makes thems softer so this likely helps.
