Don't feel rich enough to keep up with the weight weenie arms race? Don't fret there, because the Shimano went ahead and completely redesigned their 105 PD-5700 road pedals. The all-new Shimao PD-5700C pedals substitute alloy for lightweight carbon fiber. These lightweight, composite pedals use the same technology as the more expensive Dura Ace and Ultegra pedals, but at a fraction of the cost. At only 285g, they're within striking distance of most higher-end pedals on the scale, and have many of the same performance benefits. So what's the difference? The 105 pedals use a chromoly axle and bearings, instead of the titanium or ceramics found in Dura Ace and Ultegra. If you're racing on a budget or want to just get up those hills a little faster then these are the pedals that belong on your bike.
Carbon fiber pedal body is lightweight and stiff
Large surface platform gives you plenty of area to push against for a more stable pedal stroke
Steel wear plate protects the pedal from your cleats
Tension adjustment lets you control the release pressure
