Pearl Izumi Elite Thermal Barrier Bib Tights
Don't let that nasty cold front push you back in the house. Instead, put a layer of Pearl Izumi's Barrier fabric on the outside front of your legs for total wind- and waterproofing, and then a layer of insulating fleece everywhere else to keep warmth in and to send moisture to the outside. Pearl Izumi's Elite Thermal Barrier Bib Tights' fit is contoured to eliminate constriction and fit your favorite pair of chamois shorts underneath. Plus 8" leg zippers and reflective material keep it convenient and safe.
  • Elite Thermal Fleece fabric wicks moisture and regulates temperature
  • Elite Barrier panels on front of legs block wind and chill
  • Constructed leg articulation for a full range of motion
  • 8" lower leg zipper with internal draft flap and zipper garage for easy on and off and ventilation
  • Contoured leg opening provides additional coverage at top of shoe
  • Silicone gripper at ankles to keep tights in place
  • 360 degree reflectivity keeps you safer

Comments about Pearl Izumi Elite Thermal Barrier Bib Tights:

I purchased these bibs to use both for cold weather cycling and cross country skiing. I liked the fact that they don't have a chamois, which I can provide with my cycling shorts worn underneath for cycling, but not have when I want to S&C ski. They are fairly warm, but you will need a base layer underneath in very cold weather (like skiing when temp is 15 degrees Fahrenheit). They wind panel on the front is good but is mainly in the shin to thigh area, without wind panel on the remaining areas. The bib and ankle zipper features are excellent.

I think they would be good for running also, if you wanted a multi-sport bib tight without chamois.

Comments about Pearl Izumi Elite Thermal Barrier Bib Tights:

PI makes three levels of consumer tights. The Select tights are the lightest, the Elite tights are in the middle and the Amfib tights are the heaviest. These models all come in two versions (without a sewn in Chamois and with a Chamois).

The Elite tights are much lighter than the Amfib tights but only slightly heavier than the Select tights. The fabric used in the Elite tights is more like a thin version of the Amfib tights in that it is more windproof and does not stretch much unlike the standard Lycra Select tights.

The Elite tights work well down to the mid 30's to mid 50's (F), when it gets out of that range I use one of the other PI tights.

The leg zippers are nice along with the upper bib part which helps keep your chest and rear warm. The straps are standard lycra and have a lot of stretch for taller individuals.

I am 5' 10" 175 lbs and wear a Large but they are somewhat tight due to the lack of stretch of the fabric. I would go up a size except the legs are slight long already and have to be pulled up to zip the cuffs. I do not notice the tightness when riding but just when putting them on.

The fabric is thin and always seems to wear out in the seat long before anywhere else. I wish PI would reinforce their seats on all their tights.

I normally use a Chamois crème in warmer months but I forsake it in the colder months as it seems to seep through my shorts and cause the tights to bind to them accelerating their seat wear. I do a lot of riding and I am lucky to get more than one winter out of them before the seat wears out.

Comments about Pearl Izumi Elite Thermal Barrier Bib Tights:

Great bibs but no chamois. Sadly had to return. Nashbar is great for customer service so no issues. I thought I had checked out the description but I missed this. Otherwise excellent tights though and great for cold weather.
