Nashbar Rear Touring Panniers
When you start outfitting your bike to carry your stuff for touring, it's important to get the right panniers for the job. The Nashbar Rear Touring Pannier has it all. It has huge capacity including a 17-liter main compartment and one 1.5-liter side zip pockets. A drawstring closure on top cinches over your cargo and the large overlapping lid is lined with EDF making it totally waterproof. The entire bag is made with 600 denier nylon, so it's tough, light, and it's also EDF backed so it's highly water resistant (rain or road spray ain't getting in). The Rear Touring Pannier also features alarge side pocket for phone, tools, wallet, etc., and has a tail light hanger on the side pocket.
  • 600 denier nylon is scuff, tear, rip, and puncture resistant--in a big way
  • EDF backing keeps rain or sweat on the outside
  • EPU Backing on lid will keep out driving rain
  • Easy rack mounting takes about 1 minute
  • Drawstring/clip closure adds security and weatherproofing
  • 18.5 total liters of storage capacity each
  • Reflective Logos for added safety

Comments about Nashbar Rear Touring Panniers:

I decided to purchase these touring bags because they looked sturdy and durable - perfect for riding across states and perhaps into Canada some day. They come as good as they look with no surprises.

Comments about Nashbar Rear Touring Panniers:

I commute to work on my bike. These panniers were pretty impressive as I was attaching them to my bike---big, light, attractive, easily hold everything I need for my commute--- but disappointment soon followed. On my very first trip to work (5 miles), the bunjee attachment with the S hook that is used to attach the bag to the lower part of the bike frame simply pulled out of the front attachment to the bag. Following a quick jury-rigged repair while at work, the rear attachment pulled out on the return trip as well. I made it back home with the pannier simply hanging by the hooks to my rack. Failure on their first trip out.

Comments about Nashbar Rear Touring Panniers:

I bought my first set of these 3 years ago and use them regularly along with the Nashbar Rack Trunk
Item #NA-GRT2. They are roomy, well-made for the money and extremely useful. I also tend to ride with pretty heavy loads and I've had no issues with split seams or unusual wear.

I use them for day tripping and for camping and they've held up well. I've used them in < 15 mile rides in the rain and my stuff was dry. Heavier rain or longer trips and maybe you'd want extra-protection, I don't know.

I recently bought a second set for my daughter's bike with equal results. I'll probably buy a third pair next year for my younger daughter's bike.

Comments about Nashbar Rear Touring Panniers:

Bought these for an annual 4 day bike tour. Liked the price, but it was pointed out by a friend that there was no way to tighten the pannier to the rack. It was just loosely bungeed, and that wasn't good. This proved true as the top-hooks on either side continued to bounce free of the rack, so I had to hold up my group of 12 a couple times to try to secure it. Not the kind of stress you want on a group ride. The cheap bent metal hooks on top were able to be bent to hold better, but they are also cheap enough to bend back. This bag does not become one with the bike. Be-prepared for some DIY zip-tie work to keep it secure, which then completely negates the easy-on/easy-off feature that the cheap design was surely targeting.

Comments about Nashbar Rear Touring Panniers:

They're nice & big so there's lots of capacity. After a recent overnite ride tho, I was surprised that the contents got sorta wet. Wasn't a heavy rain but it lasted most of the day. I'll add a dry bag inside the next time it looks inclement.

Went on a 5 day trip on the Erie canal trail going from Albany to Utica and back. With side trips and going to hotels trip was over 250 miles. Had some rain and went through many puddles. Clothes inside were kept dry. Thank You.

Cycling bag works well for commuting and for general shopping around town. A grocery bag fits very easily in each rear touring bag and other errand products. Touring bags right for touring with and holding most of my gear. Easy to place on the bike rack and to take off when not in use.

Comments about Nashbar Rear Touring Panniers:

Took these on our second long distance tour and they held up great. They have plenty of room inside and if you expand the top straps, there is room for a backpacking sleeping bag up on top. We keep our stuff like clothes that can't get wet in plastic bags as it is not totally waterproof. Great for the price!
