Nashbar Rear Touring Panniers
When you start outfitting your bike to carry your stuff for touring, it's important to get the right panniers for the job. The Nashbar Rear Touring Pannier has it all. It has huge capacity including a 17-liter main compartment and one 1.5-liter side zip pockets. A drawstring closure on top cinches over your cargo and the large overlapping lid is lined with EDF making it totally waterproof. The entire bag is made with 600 denier nylon, so it's tough, light, and it's also EDF backed so it's highly water resistant (rain or road spray ain't getting in). The Rear Touring Pannier also features alarge side pocket for phone, tools, wallet, etc., and has a tail light hanger on the side pocket.
  • 600 denier nylon is scuff, tear, rip, and puncture resistant--in a big way

Comments about Nashbar Rear Touring Panniers:

These panniers are great. I have them attached to a Topeak Explorer Disc rack and they fit all my clothes and then some. I have done hard sprints and climbs and the bags have not budged. They are listed as water resistant and not waterproof but I have been caught in one shower and did not notice any moisture inside the bag. Two gripes: The metal mounting tabs can unbend themselves which causes a little play in the connection and the buckles could have been sewed a bit further to the edges as the wind can pick up the cover flap fairly easily. I have yet to see the cover come off, but I can see the cover flapping when I look back. The fabric sewed on the back pocket is also a big plus as I can hang an extra tail light on the left side to give drivers a better view of where my outside edge is. This is critical during portions of my commute when the shoulder disappears and I have to fight for road space with the cages.

Comments about Nashbar Rear Touring Panniers:

I received the pannier and started using immediately. After two daily commutes, I notice that the stiching on an outside pocket/zipper was coming undone. It was not double stichec and looks pretty weak.

I commute 13 miles one way and must carry my 15" laptop and a small amount of clothing and this pack works great. I have two pannier from touring that are just too big and have been looking for the a good fit. In a large pack the computer bounces around too much. This bag holds it tight. These are also good for a short tour when you don't need the kitchen sink also. I like the size and convenience of pockets on the outside. Attachment are good and tight.

I do short week long and weekend tours And I find these bags hold everything I need for those tours and they ride perfect on my planet cycle ecco rack have not tested the water resistance as of yet I think they will be good for trips in the US but anything else maybe marginal depends on how much extra you carry. In the US we have stores all over the place you may go through a couple areas with no services like death valley or a few places on the southern tier. But places like Africa you may ride a week and not see a store so you will carry extra food and water for those places But all in all probally good bags for just about anywhere you want to go. I bought them in October or November and could not find my review on them so wrote another...

We bought two sets of these and for the money, They Are The Money. We have rode over 400 miles of rail to trail and have had 0 problems except for my forcing my gear in while holding the draw cord nylon instead of the bag itself.....THAT IS A NO NO PEOPLE... small separation between nylon and bag now but my fault for sure and have learned my lesson. Me and the bride love these bags and have plans set up to do many more miles with them. Cant say much for waterproof since we have only riden in light rain and things were dry as a bone. All of our "must stay dry items" are in oversize sealable bags anyway. Don't let the low price scare you, I would by them again in a heart beat.....Happy Riding

Overnight tour rough roads no rain. Use a trailer for longer tours but found these bags to be excellent for recent trip. Plenty of room, easy to attach, pockets helpful. No issues whatsoever.

Comments about Nashbar Rear Touring Panniers:

I bought these for commuting and potentially some light touring. I have been looking for a set of pannniers that I can put my computer bag in for commuting so I don't have to remove it from the bike all the time. With that said the bag has to be big enough and yet provide enought clearance. I can fit my computer bag with a std 15" laptop perfectly, plus lunch and change of clothes with just one bag.

I also like the basic design ie two metal hooks and a bungee cord/hook to attach to the rack. I recently went on a two day camping trip and the plastic hooks on my buddy's pannier broke. So it was a big plus to have basic metal hooks that should outlast the life of the bags.

Bags seem to be well contstructed. Can't say much about water-proofing but since I am in California it's not top on my wishlist.
