Nashbar Rack Trunk
Commuting or Touring with a good trunk bag is one of the great joys of cycling...and the Nashbar Rack Trunk is one roomy and user friendly bag. It mounts easily to your bike rack with hook and loop straps and it's made of 600 denier nylon which is resistant to tearing, scuffing, ripping, puncturing, and water, plus it's lined with EDF backing for added water resistance. In extreme cases, there's always the rain cover which will totally waterproof your stuff. The large main compartment has a mesh pocket on one end for keys, phone, or iPod. A large lid compartment with shielded zipper adds a bunch of capacity.
  • 600 denier nylon is scuff, tear, rip, and puncture resistant--in a big way
  • EDF backing keeps rain or sweat on the outside
  • Easy Velcro mounting takes about 1 minute
  • Zipper flaps on main compartment zippers for greater weather protection
  • 11 liters of storage capacity
  • Reflective Logos
  • Tail light hook stitched to rear panel
  • Bungie cinch on top for pump, umbrella, baguette, bottle of wine

Decent bag for the money, good for small folding bikes

Comments about Nashbar Rack Trunk:

I use this bag on my Dahon Curve D3 folder and it fits the Dahon rear rack perfectly. If I turn my seat a bit when folding, the bag does not prevent a complete fold of the bike. Also, it does not have side pockets which, on a 16-inch bike, tend to get struck by the rider's heels. I only wish it had a "bellows" lid to allow for securing a one-grocery-bag load.

    Comments about Nashbar Rack Trunk:

We used this bag for a five day family trip on the GAP/C&O ride from Pittsburgh to Washington DC. Since we were staying at hotels, we did not need to carry a ton of stuff. We used this bag to carry jackets (on top threaded through the zig zag bungees), a speaker, snacks, first aid kit, phones, maps, etc. It was the perfect size. I agree with another reviewer that you do need to swing your leg up higher than usual when mounting your bike as the bag is tall. Very happy - and I also liked the included rain cover. It is hi-vis yellow and it worked well for the minor rain we encountered.

      Comments about Nashbar Rack Trunk:

If I had it do over, I'd get the larger version of this trunk. I have a fairly large lock, tools, tubes and first aid kit and after I put that in, there's not much room left.

        Comments about Nashbar Rack Trunk:

This is a great value. (Nashbar specializes in value for the price.) This trunk is easy to attach and remove but stable while riding. It's tall though so if you tend to swing a leg over to mount up it may take some getting used to. The bUnger cord on top is great for jackets or arm warmers you want to stow but keep handy. A great product at a great price.

A Great and Useful Trunk for commuting and Camping

        By HenryK_MA

        Comments about Nashbar Rack Trunk:

I bought one of these 3 years ago and use it regularly along with the Nashbar Rear Touring Panniers Item #NA-ATP3. It's roomy, well-made for the money and extremely useful. I also tend to ride with pretty heavy loads and I've had no issues with split seams or unusual wear. It also comes with a high-visibility rain cover. I use it for commuting, day tripping and for camping and it has held up well.

I recently bought a second one for my daughter's bike with equal results. I'll probably buy a third one next year for my younger daughter's bike.

I use this on my recumbent that i ride to work daily on. It has lots of space and mounts solidly so it dowsn't flop around. The top pocket is large enough to hold my phone, wallet, keys, and snack, also, so you get the huge normal bag and the large top pocket. This is a great commuter bag.

              Comments about Nashbar Rack Trunk:

This bag uses the Velcro straps on the four corners, these DO NOT go under the rack which is the way all rack bags should be designed. Simple mounting that is rock solid even for off-road. The bag is simple without all those annoying outside side pockets. This is exactly what a rack bag should be, a simple square with four point Velcro mounting.

I have panniers for my camping equipment when bike camping, but I needed a trunk that could give me quick access to a rain jacket, snacks, bike tools, etc. This product is perfectly suited for that function. Couldn't be any happier with this purchase. Also, it comes with a rain cover to keep everything dry.

to test the rack trunk I brought home a growler of beer and 4 ears of sweet corn. No problems. I brought extra bungee cords just in case but I didn't need them andI just used the velcro straps on the trunk.
