Giro Prolight Road Helmet - 2014 Exclusive Colors

With the Giro Prolight Road Helmet, the operative word is "Pro." Wait...no...the operative word is "light." Well now you get to have it both ways. The culmination of an exhaustive ground-up design and engineering process - paying homage to Giro's original Prolight that set the standard for modern lightweight helmets in 1985 - Giro has once again re-defined what an ultra-lightweight helmet can be.

This helmet is a ridiculously lean 193 grams, and has pro features like Giro's Xstatic padding inserts for maximum comfort, 25 vents for maximum cooling, awesome graphics for maximum coolness, plus the Roc Loc SL elastic fitting system that keeps the helmet hugging your head comfortably all ride long. From time to time while out on the bike you may check your reflection in a window because quite simply this minimalist wonder gives the sensation of having nothing on your head at all.

  • Molded layers provide enhanced impact resistance
  • Lightweight construction weighs only 193 grams
  • 25 vents channel air in and then out for maximum cooling power
  • Roc Loc SL retention system self-adjusts to provide a comfortable, secure fit
  • Xstatic foam padded inserts keep you comfy for the long haul
  • Italian-made, featherweight webbing helps keep this helmet crazy light

Comments about Giro Prolight Road Helmet - 2014 Exclusive Colors:

I've had excellent performance from several of these over the years and am sorry to hear Giro has discontinued this model. A number of reviewers point to the elastic strap in back and say the helmet is not adjustable. While it's true you can't adjust the strap itself, you can make the fit larger or smaller by moving the point where the rear band assembly attaches to the helmet. Simply pull the fitting that attaches the rear band assembly out of the hole into which it attaches and move it up or back to another hole. Admittedly, it's not as easy as turning a dial. You don't however, have that extra weight. Plus, the elastic strap is a great place to hang your sunglasses when you're riding in the shade or stopping for that latte.

Comments about Giro Prolight Road Helmet - 2014 Exclusive Colors:

I have ridden a long time and weight is normally not a primary concern, but after a bad spill a couple years ago I have problems with my neck on longer rides. This helmet does help because of the lower weight. True it is not as adjustable as most are but if you are like me then it is perfect. I own two and love them. If you are on the fence try one on first because not all helmets fit all head shapes.

Comments about Giro Prolight Road Helmet - 2014 Exclusive Colors:

The helmet is light weight but it has an elastic band instead of adjustment knob. I sent it back and bought a heavier helmet that has a way to adjust it in case you want to wear something underneath it. Weight is not everything.

Great service and sale price from Nashbar made this a deal I couldn't pass up!
I wanted a helmet that didn't cause me neck discomfort on and after long rides.
I do 3 or 4 rides a week of 2 or 3 hours or more and I don't know I'm wearing any helmet, at all. The fit was good right out of the box and the ventilation is excellent.
      Go for it!

Comments about Giro Prolight Road Helmet - 2014 Exclusive Colors:

My head size is well within Giros sizing chart for the medium helmet i bought. Unfortunately, the elastic bands squeezed my head to tight, hurting my forehead and leaving mark. I read the full instructions on how to adjust the helmet but their are few adjustments to this helmet. I was hoping the elastic would break-in a little and the forehead pain would go away but i decided to return the helmet when i realize i was not going to be unable to wear a winter or cycling cap under the helmet due to the size.

Comments about Giro Prolight Road Helmet - 2014 Exclusive Colors:

I've been wearing this helmet for a few weeks and I'm very pleased so far. It is very lightweight as promised and the ventilation is good also. The padding appears to be constructed to hold up better to the sweat of a hot summer day which was a factor in replacing my old helmet. As of now, I would recommend this helmet.

Comments about Giro Prolight Road Helmet - 2014 Exclusive Colors:

I had this helmet for a couple of months before I went down hard in a bad road crash. I went over the bars, landed on my head and broke the helmet in two places. I sustained some bruising to my head at the point of impact but no concussion. Emergency room, CT scan, X-rays, etc. This helmet definitely saved my life so I ordered another right away to replace it. It's super lightweight and fits like a glove (if Giros fit your head shape, they are all I've used for years. This is my fifth) There are three holes inside the helmet for micro adjustments of the basket, so ordering the right size is important as there isn't a lot of room for error. When I first got it, I was surprised there wasn't the usual roc-lock dial thing in the back, just an elastic strap, but it proved to be safe when the time came. If it weren't for this helmet I'd be in some serious trouble now. It definitely did its job. I highly recommend it if you are looking for an ultralight helmet.
