Vuelta Corsa Lite Road Wheelset
Looking for a solid upgrade? The Vuelta Corsa Lite Road Wheelset is probably the most versatile set of hoops you'll lay eyes on. Weighing in at a lean and mean 1570 grams for the pair, these alloy road wheels feature a 27mm deep rim, so they're nice and light but still slice through the wind for that all-important aerodynamic advantage. The CNC-machined brake track provides excellent all-weather performance while the hubs spin on Japanese-made EZO cartridge bearings so they get up to speed quickly and roll smoothly. For the ultimate in compatibility this wheelset is 11-speed Shimano/SRAM ready, with an included 8/9/10-speed spacer for older cassettes so the odds are it will seamlessly work with your current drivetrain. Last but not least, there's no robot construction here as these wheels are lovingly built by hand for perfect tension and true.
  • 27mm deep rims are made of extra stiff, lightweight 6066 aluminum alloy
  • CNC-machined brake wall provides responsive, precise braking performance
  • Triple butted aero spokes help the wheel in the aero department, and make a tougher build so they won't go out of true
  • Japanese-made EZO cartridge bearings spin fast and roll smooth
  • Hand built to ensure perfect tension and true
  • Shimano/SRAM 11-speed compatible (w/ spacer for 8/9/10-speed cassettes)
  • 1570g (pair)

Comments about Vuelta Corsa Lite Road Wheelset:

This is a follow-up to my "second set" review, After 100 or so miles, began noticing a regular creaking noise at pedaling cadence. Eventually removed the 11 speed cassette to switch back to my old wheels and discovered the outer cassette cogs had cut into the freehub body similar to another review. Contacted Nashbar customer service and made arrangements to exchange the wheelset. Wow - they were awesome - I couldn't be more pleased with their service including sending me a shipping label prepaid to return the wheelset - just outstanding. When I saw the Lites were on back order, Nashbar came through again to switch my exchange from Lites to the SLR set - see that review. I still think the Lites are fine wheels and they must have just gotten some soft freehub bodies. Stuff happens, which isn't the end of the world when you get the kind of customer service Nashbar offers.

Upgrade from stock Shimano R501s to these, and I've seen quite a speed improvement after the first 100 miles. Climbing and headwinds are much easier, and I've set PR's on every uphill segment.

Comments about Vuelta Corsa Lite Road Wheelset:

Great price and stiff set of wheels, but simply didn't hold up. Six months of daily commuting (170 lbs rider) on pretty forgiving surfaces and I've been losing spokes on the drive side like a champ (three thus far). They have all snapped at the eyelet - high tension and brittle material. Looking for new wheels.

I have had these rim since Jan 2015 and have put on just over 1600 miles. Still true as the day I got them.
I will buy them again when I need to replace them completely worth the money.

I bought these to use as a backup for my Kyserium Elite wheels. They closely match the weight and aerodynamic profile of the Kyseriums and ride remakably similar to them. Now when I discover a flat tire before a ride I can just change out that wheel and go because the handling and performance is so similar between the wheelsets. I got these on sale and am very satisfied with them. My Kyseriums have proven to be bomb proof over the past 12 years - If these Corsa Lites hold up half as well, they'll be worth it!

I've run these wheels for about 2400 hard road miles and they have exceeded my expectations. Lite and durable and great for climbing. They were out of true by ~1.5mm when I got them, but were easy to true up and have not moved since - despite taking some bad pothole and crevice hits on club road rides. Nice wheelset, highly recommended.

Comments about Vuelta Corsa Lite Road Wheelset:

Decided needed to replace my 12 year old Mavic Pros that came with my 2003 Litespeed Tuscany, with a new wheelset. The old Pros were still fine and true after around 30,000 miles but wanted lighter wheels and to forestall any breakdown in the near future (never know). They certainly seemed to have upped the performance. Nice smooth whirring noise and are lighter and more responsive. Attractive appearance. Rim deep enough but not outlandishly deep. Could have afforded more expensive wheels, but don't like to just spend money and couldn't see how a more expensive upgrade made sense for me-I'm 73 and a 15 to 16 mph man when on my own, so probably couldn't tell the differences. Very good price on sale. Have put around 1000 miles on these so cannot speak to durability. The old Pros set a high bar in that category. Can see why you are out of stock-hope you can restock for others.

Comments about Vuelta Corsa Lite Road Wheelset:

After asking several friends for their opinion about wheels and looking at reviews and ratings on Internet sites, I chose the Vuelta Corsa Lite. After 125 miles I'm very pleased. They arrived on time, in perfect condition and are still true after my first few rides. When coasting down steep hills with other riders, I no longer slowly fall behind but rather stay even or roll slightly ahead. I have to assume that this is the result of better bearings in the hubs of the Vuelta's.
Ten days or so is not nearly enough time to evaluate a pair of wheels but so far I'm giving them 5 stars. Factoring in the reasonable price I paid, I'm very satisfied.

Comments about Vuelta Corsa Lite Road Wheelset:

I ride competitively and have put around 1000 miles on these wheels since purchasing in early January 2015. I noticed a noise coming from the hub and pulled the cassette off to discover the bottom 5 gears had nearly stripped the hub cogs. I have contacted Vuelta and was told I should have checked the hub after each ride. I don't know anybody who has ever done that or what that would help. The wheels overall have been true and are holding true well.
If you are a very strong rider I would look at a different rear wheel or hub. I weight around 174lbs.

Comments about Vuelta Corsa Lite Road Wheelset:

Just got my second set of 'Lites for my new endurance bike based on my excellent experience with the first pair I got for my old bike passed down to my son. First pair was dead on true out of the box and still the same after 8-10k miles. I NEVER had to touch them. Reasonably light yet durable - I really don't know why you'd go somewhere else for a set of alloy rim wheels for the kind of cycling virtually all of us non-pros do. Many say these are good wheels "for the price" and they are a great value but I simply say they are good wheels period.

The second set arrived dead on true out of the box just like the first set. Weight on my digital scale is 1579 grams w/o the skewers - close enough to as claimed. Add 120 grams for both skewers. The new graphics are very understated especially in comparison to my first set which have bold red and white. I assume the new graphics are intended not to clash with any bike color scheme which is important for a replacement wheel set - the old graphics wouldn't work well at all for my new bike - but this may underwhelm some.

Considered the SLR's - they're about 100 grams lighter - but like the deeper, stronger although heavier 'Lites rims with fewer spokes and my past experience with them sold me on a second set. Yes I know there's no real aero advantage but they just look better.

Last comment - I weigh in the 150-160lb range so I don't know if they would hold up as well as for Clydesdales.
