Vuelta Corsa Lite Road Wheelset
Looking for a solid upgrade? The Vuelta Corsa Lite Road Wheelset is probably the most versatile set of hoops you'll lay eyes on. Weighing in at a lean and mean 1570 grams for the pair, these alloy road wheels feature a 27mm deep rim, so they're nice and light but still slice through the wind for that all-important aerodynamic advantage. The CNC-machined brake track provides excellent all-weather performance while the hubs spin on Japanese-made EZO cartridge bearings so they get up to speed quickly and roll smoothly. For the ultimate in compatibility this wheelset is 11-speed Shimano/SRAM ready, with an included 8/9/10-speed spacer for older cassettes so the odds are it will seamlessly work with your current drivetrain. Last but not least, there's no robot construction here as these wheels are lovingly built by hand for perfect tension and true.
  • 27mm deep rims are made of extra stiff, lightweight 6066 aluminum alloy
  • CNC-machined brake wall provides responsive, precise braking performance
  • Triple butted aero spokes help the wheel in the aero department, and make a tougher build so they won't go out of true
  • Japanese-made EZO cartridge bearings spin fast and roll smooth
  • Hand built to ensure perfect tension and true
  • Shimano/SRAM 11-speed compatible (w/ spacer for 8/9/10-speed cassettes)
  • 1570g (pair)

Comments about Vuelta Corsa Lite Road Wheelset:

This is my first time writing a review. I'm doing this in order to help anyone in a similar situation.

I've been riding bikes for a while, pretty much done every upgrade available, except for wheels. I hadn't upgraded the wheels largely due to the price, plus I didn't think they would make a big difference on my bike. Wow, was I wrong.

After a lot of reading on different wheels, material and brands this wheels were always mentioned. So, I decided to purchase them from Nashbar. After I purchased them, I was offered a very good deal on my LBS for a set of Mavic Ksyrium equippe so, I also bought them. I have several bikes so I decided it would be a great opportunity to compare them with my new Vueltas.

Before installing them, just by picking them up you can immediately notice that the Vueltas are a lot lighter. I can't stress this enough, the Vueltas are lighter than a $500 set of Ksyriums. So, I installed both and decided to spin the wheels having the 2 bikes side by side, both on bike stands. The Vueltas spun for A LOT longer than the Ksyriums.

At last, it was time for a ride. First the Vueltas, I immediately felt a difference on my bike, acceleration was improved, and climbing was way easier. I was very impressed. Then, the Ksyriums, they felt just the same as the stock wheels my bike came with, Shimano WH-500. I was shocked. After 2 rides later, which I covered probably 40 miles on each ride, the Ksyriums needed to be trued. The Vueltas on the other hand, were running good as new.

To finish, based on my personal experience, the Vuelta Corsa Lite performed better than a set of Mavic Ksyrium Equippes and probably Elites too. They are light at 1570g and remain true. If you care about performance, I can't recommend this wheels enough. From now on, this are the wheels I'm buying for my bikes, can't wait to try the Vueltas SLR.

This is my second set of these wheels. 18000 miles and a couple of podiums later it was time for a new set. You cannot get performance like this for the money and for thousands less than others, there is money left over for other bike parts. Great set of wheels!

Comments about Vuelta Corsa Lite Road Wheelset:

I just bought my second set. The first set were great for a year and a half (7000+ miles?) until disaster struck and something went all the way through a tire, tube, rim strip and into the rim. a little work and a boot over the hole in the rim (and an new tire and tube) and I was rolling again with no obvious problem. They may be just fine, but not wanting to tempt fate with a compromised rim, decided to replace them. I couldn't find any better deal out there, so picked up the new version on sale. Sadly, not as flashy a paint job as the previous years, but I bought them to ride, not look at.

I purchased this wheelset to give me an upgrade for the road bike I use. I am quite pleased with these wheels. They are very light and durable. I felt the difference in the rolling resistance right away. My speed using these improved markedly. For the money a great buy!

After 8Mos. of use wheels have held up with only one minor wheel truing. I ride in the ozarks very few flat roads almost always ascending or descending. So the weight means a lot and these wheels do excellent. I noticed an immediate difference from stock bontrager wheels.Very pleased and would purchase again.

Comments about Vuelta Corsa Lite Road Wheelset:

I have just a hair over 875 miles on the wheelset. I bought them for training for a 2-day 200 mile (Seattle to Portland) ride in 2013. They are as true as the day I got them. They have been through all sorts of different pavements and lots of cringe worthy potholes (due to insufficient pace line warnings). I still ride anywhere from a quick commute, hilly 25 miler or a century.

The wheels spun quite freely (by hand) when I got them. They fully broke-in on one of my 80 mile training rides. They are even better now! In unofficial testing with other wheelsets these stay spinning much much longer than other well broken-in (and maintained) wheelsets. I compared these to Roval (OE on Specialized Roubaix Expert), Mavic Askium Race and Shimano RS20.

I have noticed my rides over the same areas are easier than before. Looking at my GPS tracks my average speed is higher over the same ground. I noticed immediately these wheels accelerate MUCH faster since I lost nearly 1.8 lbs of wheel weight!

The new understated graphics look better than mine (rather ostentatious on the older version). I prefer to be understated. But laziness won and I left the stickers on the wheels.

I like the wheels so much they are now on my newest bike. A titanium framed bike. They are light, durable and inexpensive. I just need to lube the freewheel to quiet it down. No issues with cassette biting into freewheel since the cassette has a spider for the lowest gears.

Comments about Vuelta Corsa Lite Road Wheelset:

After about 800 miles, I finally decided to write a review because of a recent crash. The wheels survived better than anything else. Still no issues. They feel fast, seat of the pants, but I have no data to prove how fast. The main point is you get a reasonable wheel set for a reasonable price. Heck, you could buy two sets and play with tire selection, fast vs commuter. These will hold up to abuse.

Comments about Vuelta Corsa Lite Road Wheelset:

I got these as a lighter-weight alternative to my older Dura-Ace WH-7700 wheelset.

These have been fantastic. Crazy-light weight for the money. With a coupon and free shipping, the deal was tremendous.

I weight 200lbs, and now have about 2,000 miles on these wheels this year. I have had zero problems. I'm a roadie, who does a tiny bit of local racing.

I can't imagine there are a better set of wheels in this price range. Certainly nothing lighter/sturdier for the price.

Comments about Vuelta Corsa Lite Road Wheelset:

I weighed 195 when I started on these and now I weigh 170. I've only broken one spoke, and I got a new one at my LBS for 5$ and replaced it myself. Never had any truing issues. I've put about 2200mi so far on my set of these. Overall I don't have many complaints. However, The Freehub is made of soft material, so your cassette gears will dig into it, but this hasn't caused any issue for me. Mainly I have worn out the Ratcheting mechanism in the hub, and I am working on a warranty replacement now.

In My opinion this rear hub assembly has been made a little under built in order to get the weight down and you will wear it out if you are an avid rider and are using it for training or something like this. I imagine this would be a great climbing wheel for races for someone on a budget, but as general purpose wheel for riding every day or training, probably go with something a little heavier or more expensive...

Comments about Vuelta Corsa Lite Road Wheelset:

I use this wheelset on my one-and-only road bike. I do anywhere from 20 flat miles to 40 mile hill workouts, to century rides. My experience with this wheelset is very positive. In my mind there are two keys to a good wheelset. Light weight, and good bearings. I'm very impressed with the bearing sets on these wheels - they spin with no discernable friction, and are totally quiet (except for the freehub). My wheels arrived true and solid, but I had some mild popping for the first couple hundred miles when climbing or otherwise out of the saddle. I can't complain about the weight of these, as they are as light as most $1500 wheelsets that I've looked at. The two reasons that these aren't top shelf wheels is that they are not very pretty (the front hub is '90's huffy ugly), and the seams on the braking surfaces are not welded. Therefore you get a click click click click as you apply brakes. The surfaces are nicely machined, but it's noticeable. For the time being it's well worth it to me, but I'm hoping that my next bike will have a nice welded Mavic set - I'd give up 100g for that. Getting these on sale is an amazing bargain, and I'd do it again to lose the 1.5lbs of wheel weight from the stock Shimanos I had.
