Comments about Lake CX236 Carbon Road Shoes:

Normally a size 9.5 fits me just right. Due to other buyer's complaints I ordered the size 43 which, according to the sizing chart, should be a size 9. But, these are at least a half size too big, maybe even a full size. The heel cup is deep, and when you tighten the sizing knob, it pulls your foot backward into the heel cup, as it should, but that's leaving me with at least 3/4" of space in front of my big toe.

Unfortunately, I wore these a few times before I noticed how far off the sizing was, so I can't return them....but be forewarned. Other than the sizing they are nice shoes for the price

Comments about Lake CX236 Carbon Road Shoes:

I have gone through so many shoes for all top brands (Adidas, Giro, Shimano, SIDI) and have found a show that feels right...until now.
I am an avid and fairly strong road rider and these fit the bill perfectly at a extremely good price. I may buy a second pair just so I have them when the first eventually wear out.

Comments about Lake CX236 Carbon Road Shoes:

I've been a Sidi guy for 15 years but finally decided to cheat on my Sidis, and these Lakes looked like a bargain (and they are!). They're nicely made of soft leather with an excellent boa closure and have light/stiff/beautiful carbon soles. They're actually incredibly light shoes all-around, particularly given their unusual bulk/size (more on that later). But these shoes definitely have problems, some of which are compared directly to Sidi, some are general issues. First, these shoes are HUGE, and not just that they're sized big. My 46 Sidis are a tiny but tight, but the Lake 46 left me at least a 1/2" extra length and much more toebox space - I'm likely a 45 or even a 44.5 in Lake. They're also just gigantic overall - holding them next to my 46 Sidi Genius 5 the Lakes look like a 52, particularly in the big bulky heal cup area that occasionally hit my crank under hard efforts. They're also "tall" in profile due to the strange 2-level carbon sole. My Sidi soles are one level of nylon, but the lakes look like a carbon sole with a smaller second carbon sole bulging down from the cleat area. This forced me to raise both my saddle and bars to get back to the same riding position (annoying). There are also issues with the sole design for those of us that like our cleats farther back on the shoe - the back inside corner of my Time cleat actually hung off by A LOT, so it was cantilevered off and unsupported by the sole. The extra carbon mini sole bulge is also very curved in profile so my Time cleats were distorted into a more rounded profile when bolted on which made clicking in and out much, much, much harder with the Lakes. The Lakes also don't have much tongue relief (i.e. a split in the tongue to relieve the bite/cut into the front shin/foot tendon), so they bite uncomfortably into that tendon, which is made worse because the boa had to be ratcheted down uncomfortably tight to minimize heal lift due to the huge, spacious heal area (maybe that's because they were 1-size or so too big for me, maybe it is a general problem, but either way the tongue bite is there). In the end, even with these issues I was still sufficiently impressed with the light weight and amazing stiffness to exchange for a 45. Unfortunately at the time it was one of the only sizes no longer available in black. Then again, maybe it's for the best...

Comments about Lake CX236 Carbon Road Shoes:

Lake makes a great shoe. The carbon sole is light and solid for great power transfer. The toe box and heel cup are designed for comfort. I especially like the BOA lacing system. It actually wraps around the contours of the foot with simply adjustment. The shoe is both stylish and efficient. The leather/mesh combination keeps the feet breathing no matter what the ambient temperature. Plus, Nashbar marketed this shoe well and offered a fair price. I believe this reasonably priced shoe rivals a more expensive model on every front.

Comments about Lake CX236 Carbon Road Shoes:

I did not expect the ratcheting system to tighten up the shoe so effectively but it works better than any other system I have used. You are able to achieve desired snug fit at all points not just under straps.

There is a great amount of adjustability with the cleat mounting system.

Looks a little retro which works fine for me.

Comments about Lake CX236 Carbon Road Shoes:

Very light, BOA closure system is outstanding and light years ahead of even the best designed Velcro straps. Carbon sole is extremely stiff and light. Shoes are well bolstered, but also very wide. Not just wide in the toe box but wide throughout their length. I'd prefer them slightly narrower but it hasn't been a problem so far. These are some of the most underrated and underpriced shoes on the market. These are superior to a certain Italian brand beginning with "s" and ending with "idi". I'm very glad I found these before spending 4x as much on the Carbon 6.6 that was much less comfortable and no better build quality.

Comments about Lake CX236 Carbon Road Shoes:

I found the reason most shoes have individual buckles. Different parts of your foot need different tension to fit right. The shoes are cut narrow around the ankles and the BOA wire adds to the problem by wrapping around the ankles. The foot is loose near the front, while the area near the ankles are tight because of the narrow cut of the shoe. Other than that problem, the shoe looks to be well made.

My second pair great fit and lightweight, I love the BOA closure system. On long rides if I need added ventilation I can easily reach down and open the closure on the go no need to stop and adjust.

Comments about Lake CX236 Carbon Road Shoes:

These shoes were perfect. They are light and very solid from the carbon fiber. I don't have overly wide feet but need a little extra room in the toe box from a surgery and these had that room. Make sure you measure your feet properly from the website to get the proper size. They run a size smaller than the shimano and LG shoes I tried previously. Also the BOA system is fantastic. I have had it on other types of shoes and it really allows you to dial in your proper support.
