Comments about Nashbar WR1 Women's Road Bike:

The setup was easy. The bike is a great product. We are enjoying so much. We fit the bike in a short time. Components work great. As with anything purchased online, it does require that you fine tune the unit. However it was close to where it needed to be when it arrived.

Comments about Nashbar WR1 Women's Road Bike:

Actually purchased two of these bikes - one for my wife and one for a friend's wife. Our wives want to join us when we compete in Duathlons and Cycling events. Overall, very good intro bike, especially for the price - Nice frame, Shimano Group Set, etc. We live on the mountainous Oregon Coast, so the compact 50/34 Crank Set coupled with the 11x32-tooth climbing gear is the ideal set-up for our wives. Wheels are 32-spoke heavyweights but they should hold up well to the abuse our wives are about to put them through. My only complaint is the quality control before shipping. One bike arrived with a badly bent front spoke (obvious at first glance). There was no damage to the shipping container and the container had not been opened, which tells me the spoke was probably bent when the bike was packed and shipped. Also, lots of loose bolts, brakes, derailleurs and everything else on both bikes. If you don't know how to assemble and set up on a bike then you better have it checked out by someone who does before you take it for a test ride. Literally, check every bolt for correct tension before you ride it. I read all of the reviews before I and my friend purchased the bikes and those reviews were right on - poor quality brake blocks, poor quality seat and lots of loose nuts and bolts but still a great bike for the price. I knew that beforehand from reading the reviews, so I purchased new brake blocks and a better seat before the bike arrived. The bike is fairly light, looks good and the frame welds are excellent when you consider the price of the bike. Best of all, our wives really like the bikes. No regrets.

Comments about Nashbar WR1 Women's Road Bike:

I got this bike for my daughter in the 48 cm frame size. She's a preteen, likes to ride fast, is 5 ft tall and it fits her well. Reach is a little long, so we installed a shorter stem for a more comfortable riding position. I should mention the adjustable stem the bike comes with is a good way to experiment with bar height, but is a bizarre, heavy component for a bike like this. The other components are fine, the wheels have some aero design in them and are nice, but should be black to match the other parts.
The only design complaint we have is the front fork rake and/or head tube angle should be greater to prevent toe overlap with the front wheel. My daughter just touches the wheel with a pedal forward (size 36), but I can't ride the bike (size 44) without being very careful I stay aware of the overlap issue. Not really a big problem, the frame's too small for me, but overlap should be absent with those the bike fits. That's a miss.
The other miss was a front spoke that wasn't attached to the nipple, just pushed in enough to look OK, but not threaded. After a few miles, the nipple fell into the front wheel and made a rattling noise as it rolled around. I had to remove the tire and tube and assemble the spoke correctly, then true the wheel.
Overall, this is a good bike, the toe overlap is a stupid issue that could easily be avoided and the specs indicate it may not occur with larger frames; the unassembeled spoke was the only component problem I found, all else was fine.
My daughter loves riding her new bike, thinks it's comfortable, easy to pedal and fun to ride fast. Her old mountain bike seems reallllly slow now!
I could easily give this bike a 5 rating, it's great for the price, but knocked it down to 3 because of the spoke and toe overlap issues.

Comments about Nashbar WR1 Women's Road Bike:

I hadn't bought a new bike in about 20+ years so it was overwhelming seeing all the different types/brands that were out there now. I mainly ride on paved bike trails and/or roads. After months of searching/comparing I chose this bike. I couldn't be happier with my choice. It rides nice, it's fast, looks great and handles well. I usually do 15 - 20 miles per day and if time permits I would go even longer because I love my biking time. This bike makes each ride feel like a mini vacation!!! I would highly recommend.

This is my first road bike, and I'm very happy with it! difficult to find good quality bikes for women at this price point, so I'm glad Nashbar has this one! Very cute in person, perfect for casual rides, exercising, or using with bike trainer on bad weather days. I am 5'2" and got the 48, it's a good fit.

Comments about Nashbar WR1 Women's Road Bike:

I have no personal stake in this product beyond belief that poor products should be slammed and great ones should be celebrated. "For what it is" this is a great product.

I shopped and watched the 2 prominent on-line posting resources for weeks, and pickins' were slim and absurdly over-priced. This bike cost less delivered that anything comparable I saw used. For the price, it is truly unbeatable. There are about a dozen main factories in Taiwan that make 99.9% of all bikes for the rest of the world; even that big American brand's bikes. This bike is made in that same factory, and is indeed directly comparable to other brands' four-figure entry-level road bikes. That's right; you'd pay literally twice-as-much for a branded version that's essentially the same. We'd prefer to spend that money in other ways.

Is this a "great" bike? Does it perform like my custom hand-built frames with Campy and Dura Ace? Of course not. But at the delivered cost, it is an incredible value, and only a weenie might quibble with that. Seriously. I just don't think you can find a more decent bike for the cost; at least I was unable to.

As-delivered, it weighs about 22lbs. The brake calipers and adjustable stem are are heavy and ugly. They can be cost-effectively replaced with nice after-market parts, and the bike remains an incredible bargain. You might also replace the bottom-bracket/crankset, but that's likely not worthwhile/cost-effective. Wheels are expensive. These wheels are fine. If I were a weenie, I might replace the rim strips, tubes and tires with lighter weight models. …But why?

Almost every bike is over-geared, in both senses: non-racers don't need to keep spinning the pedals beyond about 25mph, and within a practical range of gear-inches, more speeds aren't magically "better." So a "compact double" like this is fine (rather than a triple). For recreational riding, more than 9/18 speeds has little practical value if all those speeds are useful.

Double-check the sizing. Other reviewers complained, and I went with the 44. For my 5'1" daughter, that's perfect. Amusingly, it'll also fit my wife, who's about 5'8". I think my wife will end up stealing this from our daughter.

Nashbar is to be commended. Bikes are awesome. I don't know how – or even if – Nashbar turns a profit on this bike, but it makes a real/viable road bike as cost-effective as it can be.

Comments about Nashbar WR1 Women's Road Bike:

I purchased this bike as a gift for my wife and she has been very happy with it. I used to work at a bike shop that sold Tr*k, and I can say that this bike is similar to their entry level road offerings. Yes, it is a cheaper frame, cheap wheels, and not the best carbon fork, but for the casual rider or someone just getting into cycling, this is a great deal! In my opinion this is comprable to the Lexa C, but it has a better drivetrain with the Shimano Sora Shifters and derailleurs.

Light-weight and good quality. Happy with the purchase. Would recommend having a tune up done by a bike shop after you get it though.

My wife is 5'3 and I originally ordered the 48cm, but that was too big, no clearance over the top tube for her. I shipped it back and purchased the 44cm which was much better.

        Too Big - Otherwise Great

Comments about Nashbar WR1 Women's Road Bike:

I was looking for an entry level road bike. The bike arrived within a few days of ordering it. I like how it has the two sets of breaks, came with pedals and is light weight. Plus its a nice color.

However, I'm 5'-1" with a leg inseam of 27". The 48cm is way too tall. When I stand over the bike, the cross bar is as high as my pubic bone. The owners manual says there should be 2" distance from the top of the bike's rail to my body.

I'm considering buying this same model but in a 44cm, but we'll see how returning this one goes first and see if their customer service can help direct me better with sizing.

Don't let the "women's" designation fool you. If you're a shorter to average height man this will fit you just fine. I'm a man that's a hair under 5'10 and have a short-ish torso and the 54cm fits like a glove. This model has better shifters than the Nashbar AL1 (as of this writing) for the same price too. I replaced the adjustable stem with a regular one, and replaced the stock brake pads with Kool Stop dual compounds and I'm all set. Great bike for the money.
