Shimano Ultegra WH-6800 Road Wheelset
Race-ready and ready to rock any road in sight, the Shimano Ultegra WH-6800 Road Wheelset is a precision marvel light enough for competition yet durable enough for the rigors of everyday riding. First and foremost among the trickle-down features from rock star big brother Dura-Ace is an 11-speed compatible freehub plus an overall lighter hub design. Its freehub is 10 grams lighter than the previous version and its digital click bearing adjustment system diffuses quick-release tension, reduces bearing load, provides smoother spinning and increases durability. Bladed spokes, just 16 front and 20 rear, plus help you slice through the air while the shallow 23mm rim height ensure utterly predictable, reliable handling no matter how stiff a crosswind you may encounter. There's plenty of versatility regarding tire choice as these wheels are compatible with both tubeless as well as standard clincher tires. And all the home mechanics out there who love to eek every last iota of performance out of their bikes will be pleased to see that the bearings remain the traditional cup and cone variety for easy maintenance and adjustment.
  • 6061 aluminum alloy rims deliver a super-lightweight and aerodynamic ride without compromising strength and stiffness
  • Wide flange hub and offset 23mm front rim for high rigidity and power transfer
  • Cup and cone bearings ensure low maintenance and best performance
  • Digital adjustment system provides a tool-free means to eliminate bearing play
  • 16/20 stainless steel, bladed spokes for strength and speed
  • Wear indicators on brake surface
  • Includes spacer for 10-speed systems
  • Compatible with tubeless tires and standard clincher tires/tubes
  • Hand-built quality

Comments about Shimano Ultegra WH-6800 Road Wheelset:

Upgraded from a pair of Rol Race SL clinchers to the WH-6800 wheel set. They may weigh ~200g more but I cannot tell the difference (either in endurance of average speed over rides). They are silky quiet in the flats and provide plenty of vertical compliance when it's time to climb.

2 year warranty and Nashbar's quality assurance make the decision to purchase quite easy. A fantastic upgrade through and through.

Comments about Shimano Ultegra WH-6800 Road Wheelset:

I was looking to upgrade the stock wheels on my Trek. When I found these at such a great price I couldn't pass it up. For reference I am 5'10" and 205lbs. These have proved to be very durable rims. I have about 300 miles on them so far and they as true as the day I set them up. They the rim profile is wider than my Bontrager wheel which makes the ride more comfortable and my 25c tires actually 25c wide. Not the lightest wheel set, but the seem to be of great quality in both build and parts. No regrets.

Comments about Shimano Ultegra WH-6800 Road Wheelset:

Great set of wheels, and for the price I got them from Nashbar, wow cant go wrong. These wheels are buil very well, rolled tru right out of the box. Great hubs, good looking, and tubeless ready. Im running reg tubes and tires on them, and I have to say, that would be a con for me, they were really hard to mount tires onto. These wheels seem to be a little wider than my other set. So my tires were VERY hard to get on to these wheels. But other than that, no complaints. I would buy these again.

I would recommend these to anyone looking to upgrade a set of OEM wheels or for anyone who is looking to drop some weight on their "rotating mass" for better climbing and acceleration. Good designs and easy conversion (I am using them for a 10 Speed Cannonade CAAD 8 right now.)

Great wheelset, smooth rolling, well built, takes the edge off the chipseal roads.

Tubeless compatible, but I'm using tubes with them with no problems. I like the looks, too.

Just wish I'd waited a little longer to take advantage of the price drop (price went down almost $100.00).

excellent road wheelset, both training and race ready. light, stiff, smooth hubs, look great, roll great. first rate, shimano quality gear, what you expect from ultegra level equipment and with the right tires even more. not the lightest, but tough and quick. pound for pound difficult to beat. at nashbar price, quite possibly

                  best wheels money can buy.

Comments about Shimano Ultegra WH-6800 Road Wheelset:

The front rim was true and spins great, the rear rim was a little out in one spot. Very minor. I was worried because the rear did not spin very long at first but I was hoping it would losen up after a few trip which it did. I am 225lbs and after 300 miles i find the ride to be really nice and stable and the the rims have stayed true, for my size and road conditions here in Juneau that is saying something. The price was great and for our roads and I think they well work just fine.

These are really good wheels. I bought them for use on the roads in Chicago in early spring where holes are always a risk. I bought them as an "insurance policy" for my Mavic rims.

I have a few hundred miles on them and am very pleased with them.

Comments about Shimano Ultegra WH-6800 Road Wheelset:

I bought these to as part of a build up of a NOS Bianchi 928 frame. I also weigh about 205 lbs. I wanted a wheelset that was fairly light but stiff and durable. 3 for 3! Beware, though. The nipples screw into the rim from the hub side and are prone to loosen up on the rear wheel. I carried the nipple wrenches with me until I heard about the green formula Loctite that can be applied to threads after assembly. I disassembled the wheel and cleaned the threads with solvent inside and out. Then I rebuilt the wheel on my homemade truing stand. Applied a tiny bit of Loctite to each nipple and the wheel stayed true for three years! Just recently I gave each spoke a 1/8th turn, trued it up, and applied more Loctite. You could probably avoid the rebuild if you apply the Loctite before riding on the wheel. Sounds like a big hassle? Not so much. Green Loctite is available at hardware and automotive stores. There are instructions for wheel building on the web. It's easier than you might think. I learned some new skills and had some fun doing it, too.

Because of the nipple problem I'm giving these wheels only 4 stars. If the thread problem has been fixed by Shimano, then they're a 5 star for the avid cyclist.
