Nashbar AT29 29" Mountain Bike

It's so easy to catch 29er fever with the brand-new Nashbar AT29 29" Mountain Bike. Whether you're looking to hot dog it through the local trails, or catch up on your fitness, the AT29 is a machine engineered to be tough and designed to bring the fun.

First off, let's talk about the AT29's frame. Its 6061 Aluminum tubing is the industry standard for mountain bike and road bike quality -- the only way to go up is to carbon fiber, which is a lot more expensive. 6061 is tough, light, and can be fashioned to give flex in all the right areas for superior control and riding comfort. Working in tandem with the sweet frame is a Suntour XCT suspension fork with a lockout lever and 100mm of travel -- that means you can speed over all kinds of roots, rocks, and obstacles and your front end will soak it up with glee. And when you have to ride on asphalt to and from the trails the hydraulic lockout lever on the crown is a convenient means to turn the fork rigid in terrain when suspension isn't necessary.

The AT29 is also no joke when it comes to its component selection as there are plenty of industry leading brands throughout. Changing gears is a piece of cake on the 24-speed drivetrain with trusty Shimano derailleurs front and rear coupled with Shimano trigger shifters on the bars. The SR Suntour XCR SIX crankset features a tried-and-true 44/32/22t chainring selection and coupled with a wide-range 11-32t cassette on the rear wheel you've got the arrows in your quiver to not only scale the steepest of ascents without scorching your lungs and legs but also enough high end gearing to jump into warp drive on the way back down. And there's no worries when you need to drop out of hyper-drive as the Tektro Novella disc brakes are top notch when it comes to reliable stopping power in any conditions. The flip-flop aluminum stem and aluminum 680mm-wide riser bar ensure a perfect ergonomic fit and both are lightweight and dependable.

Alex alloy rims are top quality and their DC19 model laced to 32-hole alloy hubs with bombproof straight gauge spokes inspire confidence and trusty, predictable handling over any terrain. Kenda Klaw XT tires sport aggressive knobbies perfect for digging in, cornering, and cruising with ease while the knobbies' wide spacing means they shed mud like a champion.

  • 6061 Aluminum Frame is light, strong, and tough
  • SR Suntour XCT's 100mm of fork travel soaks up bumps, roots, and rocks
  • Shimano/Suntour drivetrain is smooth, responsive, and reliable
  • 29" wheels conquer obstacles, provide stability, and dig in better on soft terrain

I'm a long time Trek owner and mountain biker. I researched to find an inexpensive 29er for my girlfriend, and this fit the bill. A comparable Trek would have been $200 more. The bike looks good, rides good, and I'd take it ripping down a trail myself without worry. It did come with a very hard saddle, like harder than my road bike racing seat, so plan to replace that. Nice metal pedals. It sits a lot more upright than my high end mtn bike, but it is perfect for my girlfriend.

Good solid bike at Nashbar prices. Came exactly as advertised, and was easy to assemble. My other ride is a carbon road bike, so this feels very heavy and sluggish, but it is fine for hauling kids, getting groceries, and commuting short distances. I also tried a few local MTB trails with child seat attached, and it seemed to handle fine over rocks and tree roots.

Comments about Nashbar AT29 29" Mountain Bike:

Bought an AT29 a few weeks ago to get back into riding after a 10-year stint. Used to have some very nice and very expensive bikes but didn't want to find myself going down that path again.

The bike was well packaged and arrived undamaged. Assembly took about 20 minutes with tuning taking another hour or so. I was pretty happy for the most part but had a few complaints: The paint doesn't seem to be particularly durable and I found several flaws in it. The rear derailleur cage is assembled weird; the bottom gear is wider than the top gear, giving it an odd taper. Another unexpected thing is that it has two Kenda front tires fitted, both on the front and the back.

All-in-all, I'm happy with the bike and for the price, thrilled. I have made some upgrades to suit my particular taste and the bike has been fun to work on.

Comments about Nashbar AT29 29" Mountain Bike:

I was told to spend the extra cash and get a better bike, meaning I was gonna buy a walarm bike. Super glad I did, i was recommended nashbar. This bike is a blast on the trails and great to pull the kids around in the trailer. You will need to tighten and adjust some parts on the bike, but that's expected when it's shipped in a box. Seat could be upgraded. Very happy with it.

Comments about Nashbar AT29 29" Mountain Bike:

the bike was not functional out of the box and plan on spending $60-$100 to make it work.

Both front and back brakes were not right and both back and front derailers were out of alignment

Comments about Nashbar AT29 29" Mountain Bike:

I needed a bike to ride with my 15 year old son who has taken up mountain biking (and stole my bike in the process). I needed something good enough to keep up with him but given my riding habits couldn't justify a top of the line bike. This one has fit the bill thus far. A bit heavy and shifting isn't as crisp as I'm used to but for the money I paid, this thing has been great. We'll see how it holds up over time.

Comments about Nashbar AT29 29" Mountain Bike:

I use to be a competitive cross country rider. This bike is a great buy! Value for money! And all the components are of good quality. The one and only thing I would change is the option to buy the exact mountain bike with Hydraulic disk breaks or even rim style breaks, as the Mechanical break requires quite an applied force to slow your speed. Otherwise a great bike for a avid rider. If the breaking system was different, it could be used as a entry level competitive bike.
