Nashbar AT29 29" Mountain Bike

It's so easy to catch 29er fever with the brand-new Nashbar AT29 29" Mountain Bike. Whether you're looking to hot dog it through the local trails, or catch up on your fitness, the AT29 is a machine engineered to be tough and designed to bring the fun.

First off, let's talk about the AT29's frame. Its 6061 Aluminum tubing is the industry standard for mountain bike and road bike quality -- the only way to go up is to carbon fiber, which is a lot more expensive. 6061 is tough, light, and can be fashioned to give flex in all the right areas for superior control and riding comfort. Working in tandem with the sweet frame is a Suntour XCT suspension fork with a lockout lever and 100mm of travel -- that means you can speed over all kinds of roots, rocks, and obstacles and your front end will soak it up with glee. And when you have to ride on asphalt to and from the trails the hydraulic lockout lever on the crown is a convenient means to turn the fork rigid in terrain when suspension isn't necessary.

The AT29 is also no joke when it comes to its component selection as there are plenty of industry leading brands throughout. Changing gears is a piece of cake on the 24-speed drivetrain with trusty Shimano derailleurs front and rear coupled with Shimano trigger shifters on the bars. The SR Suntour XCR SIX crankset features a tried-and-true 44/32/22t chainring selection and coupled with a wide-range 11-32t cassette on the rear wheel you've got the arrows in your quiver to not only scale the steepest of ascents without scorching your lungs and legs but also enough high end gearing to jump into warp drive on the way back down. And there's no worries when you need to drop out of hyper-drive as the Tektro Novella disc brakes are top notch when it comes to reliable stopping power in any conditions. The flip-flop aluminum stem and aluminum 680mm-wide riser bar ensure a perfect ergonomic fit and both are lightweight and dependable.

Alex alloy rims are top quality and their DC19 model laced to 32-hole alloy hubs with bombproof straight gauge spokes inspire confidence and trusty, predictable handling over any terrain. Kenda Klaw XT tires sport aggressive knobbies perfect for digging in, cornering, and cruising with ease while the knobbies' wide spacing means they shed mud like a champion.

  • 6061 Aluminum Frame is light, strong, and tough
  • SR Suntour XCT's 100mm of fork travel soaks up bumps, roots, and rocks
  • Shimano/Suntour drivetrain is smooth, responsive, and reliable
  • 29" wheels conquer obstacles, provide stability, and dig in better on soft terrain

This bike is for my 13 yr. old son to ride through college-age. Looks like I made a good choice. He likes the subtle look and the 29ner feel. Hey Santa, I want one next Christmas!

      Dont get a Medium

Comments about Nashbar AT29 29" Mountain Bike:

I have bought road bike related parts from Nashbar with no complaints but this was upsetting. I ordered a Medium frame bike and the pedals rub the front tires on even a mild angle turn. This bike may be great at bigger sizes but the medium is not an idea size if you plan on turning.

Comments about Nashbar AT29 29" Mountain Bike:

I bought this bike to use on the dirt trails around my house. I'm not using it on very muddy trails. The bike was pretty easy to put together. It took about an hour to get everything setup to my liking. It has been performing well thus far.

My only complaint is the front fork isn't heavy enough for a 250 pound guy like me. Since it does have a lock-out on the fork, I can't complain too much.

Comments about Nashbar AT29 29" Mountain Bike:

I bought the red version of this bike with the same specs (looks like it's now available in blue with some "Nashbar" decals on it; mine came plain with no graphics). I use this bike exclusively for commuting to and from work, about four miles round trip, on mostly flat roads. For the money, this is a solid bike. It was easy to put together, and the only things I've changed are the seat (the one provided wasn't terrible, I just wanted something a little more comfortable) and the knobby tires (since I'm not using it for mountain biking, I went with something more road-friendly... but the Kenda knobby's were fine). This bike sells for less than $400, so don't expect it to be amazing. I was on a tight budget, and this had what I wanted (disc brakes, and the gears shift pretty smoothly). If I could have afforded a $1,000 bike, I'd have bought one and it would be better. But for the money, this bike packs in a lot, so I'm happy with the purchase (the paint job appears to lack a protective clear coat so it scratches easily). Eventually, I might swap out the fork (which has a lockout) for a rigid one because I basically only use it in the locked out position. The suspension is kind of too springy for my taste, but again, this is an inexpensive bike so that's to be expected.

Ride to and from work. We have poor roads with many pot holes. It's comforting to know my Nashbar bike offers a secure safe ride despite the hazardous streets.
