Nashbar AT29 29" Mountain Bike

It's so easy to catch 29er fever with the brand-new Nashbar AT29 29" Mountain Bike. Whether you're looking to hot dog it through the local trails, or catch up on your fitness, the AT29 is a machine engineered to be tough and designed to bring the fun.

First off, let's talk about the AT29's frame. Its 6061 Aluminum tubing is the industry standard for mountain bike and road bike quality -- the only way to go up is to carbon fiber, which is a lot more expensive. 6061 is tough, light, and can be fashioned to give flex in all the right areas for superior control and riding comfort. Working in tandem with the sweet frame is a Suntour XCT suspension fork with a lockout lever and 100mm of travel -- that means you can speed over all kinds of roots, rocks, and obstacles and your front end will soak it up with glee. And when you have to ride on asphalt to and from the trails the hydraulic lockout lever on the crown is a convenient means to turn the fork rigid in terrain when suspension isn't necessary.

The AT29 is also no joke when it comes to its component selection as there are plenty of industry leading brands throughout. Changing gears is a piece of cake on the 24-speed drivetrain with trusty Shimano derailleurs front and rear coupled with Shimano trigger shifters on the bars. The SR Suntour XCR SIX crankset features a tried-and-true 44/32/22t chainring selection and coupled with a wide-range 11-32t cassette on the rear wheel you've got the arrows in your quiver to not only scale the steepest of ascents without scorching your lungs and legs but also enough high end gearing to jump into warp drive on the way back down. And there's no worries when you need to drop out of hyper-drive as the Tektro Novella disc brakes are top notch when it comes to reliable stopping power in any conditions. The flip-flop aluminum stem and aluminum 680mm-wide riser bar ensure a perfect ergonomic fit and both are lightweight and dependable.

Alex alloy rims are top quality and their DC19 model laced to 32-hole alloy hubs with bombproof straight gauge spokes inspire confidence and trusty, predictable handling over any terrain. Kenda Klaw XT tires sport aggressive knobbies perfect for digging in, cornering, and cruising with ease while the knobbies' wide spacing means they shed mud like a champion.

  • 6061 Aluminum Frame is light, strong, and tough
  • SR Suntour XCT's 100mm of fork travel soaks up bumps, roots, and rocks
  • Shimano/Suntour drivetrain is smooth, responsive, and reliable
  • 29" wheels conquer obstacles, provide stability, and dig in better on soft terrain

Incredible value, but I had to rework the front and rear breaks, rear derailer and front derailed. Who's putting these things together?

Comments about Nashbar AT29 29" Mountain Bike:

other than a mistake when it was assembled bike is awesome. the rear derailleur cable was pinched under the rear skewer nut. this bent the tread and ruined the casing on derailleur cable. nashbar sent me a new skewer nut but failed to understand that the derailleur cable is weak and defective. bike came with rear wheel installed this was their mistake.i rplaced the seat and pedals and had to adjust the front derailleur but this was expected.

Comments about Nashbar AT29 29" Mountain Bike:

I use this for biking on recreational to aggressive single track. I purchased this bike during a sale which helped my budget tremendously and the value for the money is insane with this bike. I put an old seat on to replace the cheap uncomfortable one that comes with it. I assembled it in about an hour and neither the brakes nor the gearing needed much adjustment. It's an attractive looking bike with the strong blue frame and black components. Even the pedals that come with the bike are respectable. I would highly recommend this bike to the budget conscious rider.

Comments about Nashbar AT29 29" Mountain Bike:

Wanted a quality not too expensive mountain bike for light trail riding but mainly commuting. Being 6'3" I needed a large framed bike and Nashbar's XL with 29 inch wheels fit the bill perfectly. I looked at other bikes in town locally that cost $100 to $200 more and didn't offer the same features this bike has. With Nashbar's lifetime warranty on EVERY part you cannot go wrong, I don't know who else stands behind their products like that!

13th birthday gift for our son. After making comparisons to base model trek and specialized, gave son the optionns of base model big name brand or the fuji/A29 +100.00 deposit to his bank account if he went with the A29, he went with it and is very happy he did. ONLY THING WE HAD TO DO WAS GET FRONT WHEEL TRUED!! He loves this bike. I think an upgraded fork for Christmas and an upgraded seat and this will get him through college years.

I use this bike as a trail bike. The trails that I ride on are consider intermediate to slightly advance. For the money this is a quality product. The biggest down side is the plastic pieces that hold the cables in place are inadequate;they don't work. The seat is also unforgiving but other than that this is a great bike to start out on if you want to try a 29er without draining your kids college fund.

Comments about Nashbar AT29 29" Mountain Bike:

Looked around for a replacement for my 23 yr old Mongoose Alta. Compared this to similar offerings from Diamond Back, Motobecane, GT, etc. Point for point, this bike holds its own against them all.

Just took it for its first jaunt last weekend. SO much easier to move than on the 'Goose. Still some setup to finalize (seat rake, brakes, derailleurs), but there was very little to do right out of the box. Going to put a pair of Rubena CityHopppers on there as I will mainly tooling around town, but the stock tires weren't horrible on the road and loved the paths around the lake.

Definitely looking forward to many more rides!

Solid, easy to assemble, good frame/components for a great price. A couple considerations 1) if you are not an experienced builder then get it professionally tuned/assembled 2) I am about 240lbs so the spring fork is going to need to be replaced (but even $6-700 bikes still use this sun tour fork so that is an additional expense I would have on almost any entry level bike)
