Mekk Poggio 3.0 Carbon Road Bike

It's a bold move to name a bike after such a pivotal juncture of a world-renowned bike race, but the Mekk Poggio 3.0 carbon road bike has the goods to propel you to glory on any road you ride. The classic fit of the full-carbon Poggio 3.0 was conceived to produce the perfect all-rounder, now with an updated MU monocoque carbon frame and 3K carbon 1-1/8" to 1.5" tapered fork at its core. There's a bevy of Shimano's remarkable 11-speed mechanical Ultegra components throughout - just a hair's breadth away from Dura-Ace in performance at a much more economical price. There's Ultegra 11-speed shifter/brake levers, front and rear derailleurs, plus a compact 50/34 crankset that deliver incredible performance, renowned Shimano quality, all in a lightweight package. The all-round theme continues through the wheelset -- Shimano RS30 aluminum hoops with 30mm rims and bladed spokes -- plus there's a serious rubber spec courtesy of the Continental Ultra Sport II tires. Capped off with an Italian-made Selle San Marco ERA Dynamic saddle, you know this rig means business.

Mekk is the brainchild of Mark Edwards (ME) and Ken Knight (KK), a pair of Brits with extensive experience in high-performance cycling at both the racing and production end of the spectrum, and they've delivered a tour de force bike worthy of the legacy of Milan-San Remo's iconic Poggio ascent.

  • New MU Monocoque carbon frame with BB86 bottom bracket is lighter and stiffer than ever
  • Full carbon fork with tapered 1-1/8" to 1.5" steerer for responsive handling and smoothness
  • Shimano Ultegra mechanical 11-speed shifters, derailleurs, and crankset deliver pro-level performance
  • Compact gearing ensures you can scale the steepest climbs while still having plenty of top-end speed
  • Internal cable routing for clean lines
  • Di2 compatible ensures easy upgrade capacity for electronic shifting
  • Shimano RS21 aluminum wheelset offers a rock-solid foundation for climbing/sprinting and has 30mm rim height plus stainless steel aero spokes for reduced drag
  • Selle San Marco ERA dynamic saddle is lightweight, comfortable, and made in Italy
  • Continental Ultra Sport II tires are reliable all-arounders

Comments about MEKK Bicycles Mekk Poggio 3.0 Carbon Road Bike:

I do mostly sprint tris and group rides and sportives. This bike does all well. I put some aero bars on it and its a beast. The internal cable routing is a bit loud, but the bike is awesome.

Comments about MEKK Bicycles Mekk Poggio 3.0 Carbon Road Bike:

I purchased the 2014 version of the Poggio 3.0 over the winter and swapped out the components with a friend to end up with SRAM Force on the bike. The result is a smooth yet snappy ride. Although the frame is more of a sprint geometry, I found it easy to ride this bike 80 miles... and I'm age 55. My set-up weighs in at 17.3 lbs so its not as light as what the pros are riding, but getting close. I'd liken it to the tarmac comp, but for the wheels.

Maybe a good frame let down by below grade components

Comments about MEKK Bicycles Mekk Poggio 3.0 Carbon Road Bike:

For the last 30 years, I've been riding about 2000-4000 miles a year. Maybe I'm getting cranky in my old age, but Shimano components aren't what they use to be. The "Ultegra" parts on this bike look like their low end from the 1980's. I weighed the wheels. They are heavier than the Ultegra wheels from my 2007 Trek. The seat post was aluminum not carbon fiber. The whole bike was heavier than the quoted weight and the same weight as my aluminum frame 2007 Trek with Ultegra components.

Since Shimano attained market dominance, their quality and value seem to be slipping.

In the end, I sent the bike back without ever riding it. I expected improvement in 8 years since my last bike and this being carbon fiber. I saw no reason to spend $$$$ for a bike that was not better than my current one.

Nashbar was excellent about the return. Their service is excellent. I will keep buying from Nashbar and recommending them.

Comments about MEKK Bicycles Mekk Poggio 3.0 Carbon Road Bike:

I love this bike. Spent a lot of time deciding whether an upgrade from my '90's Nishiki would really be worthwhile or just a small improvement and this Mekk was a major improvement! It's fast, climbs well, handles great and rides much smoother than my old bike. The gear ratios are close together and it's really easy to keep the pace up with the smooth, fast ultegra shifting.
Seems like I just fall into the bike and become part of it; it always felt like I was sitting on top of my old one even though both measure almost the same.
Very stable and excellent balance, easy to get down into the drops and pedal no hands with my arms straight back behind me; no way could I do that with the Nishiki. I never feel like I'm out of position riding, the seat is fine, doesn't poke me cruising, climbing or descending fast. Brakes are certainly good enough, no complaints.
After looking at a number of bikes, I chose the Poggio 3.0, great bang for the buck, should have upgraded long ago!

Comments about MEKK Bicycles Mekk Poggio 3.0 Carbon Road Bike:

Wow, I am surprised this bike is still available in all these sizes.
I have a MEKK 3.5, 2013. I luv it. It is light and responsive and pretty comfortable. I am 52 and do weekly club rides of about 100-125 km. that,s about 41/2 hrs in the saddle. The compact crank makes climbing a breeze. Set up with mine was simple. Install seat, handlebar and front wheel. Minor adjustments on the gears. This is a great bike and this is an amazing deal. Ultegra equipped carbon road bikes will usually cost twice this amount.
With the money I saved, I upgraded my wheels and seat at the end of last season.
Having a great summer on my MEKK.
