Classic, old world, race-proven geometry is combined with the ultimate in modern day frame materials and electronic shifting to create the stunning Mekk Poggio 3.5 Di2 Ultegra road bike. Mekk has seriously upped the ante for 2015, beginning with the re-vamped Poggio 3.5 frame that features new MU monocoque carbon fiber that's both stiffer and lighter than its previous iteration. Add in the Poggio's 3K carbon 1-1/8" to 1.5" tapered fork and you've got the makings of a tour de force all-arounder that's ready to bring your road riding (and racing, if so desired!) to new heights.
Not only does the Poggio 3.5 sport a superb 11-speed Shimano Ultegra drivetrain, but the shifter and derailleurs are Shimano's Di2 electronic versions for the ultimate in instant, precision gear changes. Ultegra Di2 features an automatic trimming front derailleur, so you never have to hear the sound of chain rub again. The shifters act with digital push button shifting and are ergonomically shaped for optimal comfort and control. The battery, at the heart of the drivetrain, uses lithium ion technology that provides a range of approximately 1,000 miles before it needs to be recharged, which only takes just 90 minutes. The 11-speed Ultegra crankset features 50/34T compact chainrings and Shimano's new four-arm design which reduces weight without sacrificing one iota of strength and stiffness. The bolt circle diameter is now identical for compact as well as standard size chainrings meaning one set of crank arms can do it all - just swap out chainrings to mix things up while keeping the same crankset.
In addition to the drivetrain, Shimano is also utilized for the wheelset - in this case the aluminum RS31 model. The wheels feature a 30mm rim height to slice through the wind while 16 spokes in the front and 20 spokes in the rear ensure a proper balance between stiffness, light weight, and all-around performance. Marquee brand names are smartly spec'd with the tires - the workhorse Continental Ultra Sport II - as well as the saddle - classic Italian craftsmanship and quality in the Selle San Marco ERA Dynamic Power.
Mekk is the brainchild of Mark Edwards (ME) and Ken Knight (KK), a pair of Brits with extensive experience in high-performance cycling at both the racing and production end of the spectrum, and they've delivered a remarkable bike worthy of the legacy of Milan-San Remo's iconic Poggio ascent.
