Mekk Primo 6.5 Carbon Road Bike
Mekk pulled no punches by using Primo to name their top-of-the-line, truly race-ready road bike. The Mekk Primo 6.5 is indeed first in value as there's a complete Shimano Ultegra 6800 11-speed mechanical groupset (no substitutions anywhere!) plus renowned brands throughout to superbly complement the Shimano spec. And Primo may be a position you grow accustomed to as the aero-optimized, full carbon frame and fork provides the foundation for finding your way to the top step of the podium in any competitive endeavor you may undertake on the road.

At the Mekk Primo 6.5's heart is a monocoque frame constructed from the finest grade of Japanese carbon fiber. Not only are the sculpted tubes designed to slice through the wind, the stout BB86 bottom bracket is mated to oversized chain stays to make sure there's no power loss through frame flex when you're in the midst of throwing down maximum watts. Up front there's also a full carbon fork with aero blades that features a tapered 1-1/8" to 1.5" steerer for unrivalled stiffness and perfect handling. It's a rare thing these days to see a complete groupset spec'd on a road bike, and exceedingly rare that it's at the level of Shimano Ultegra 6800 11-speed. That's right - the Primo 6.5 doesn't cut corners anywhere as there's the full STI shifter/brake levers, derailleurs, crankset, chain, cassette, and brakes throughout. Shimano's 11-speed Ultegra groupset is just a hair's breadth away from Dura-Ace in performance at a much more economical price. The no-holds-barred, race-ready theme continues with the inclusion of a solid set of wheels in the Mavic Aksium topped off by Continental Grand Sport Race tires. You'd be hard-pressed to find a finer cockpit in the Ritchey WCS Curve handlebar and WCS C260 stem - both in a stunning Wet Black finish. Capped off with an Italian-made Selle San Marco ERA Dynamic saddle, and you know the Primo 6.5 is a true road ravishing thoroughbred.

Mekk is the brainchild of Mark Edwards (ME) and Ken Knight (KK), a pair of Brits with extensive experience in high-performance cycling at both the racing and production end of the spectrum. Bike Nashbar is proud to be the exclusive purveyor of their bicycle line in the United States.

Comments about MEKK Bicycles Mekk Primo 6.5 Carbon Road Bike:

This bike replaces my 26 year old Trek 1400 aluminum frame, 105 group road bike that was used primarily for cross training. Rode < 1000 mi year on the 1400 and like it a lot. As I move deeper into retirement, I was looking for a good value in a carbon frame, Ultegra group upgrade as a treat to myself. Not much information on these British MEKK bikes on the web, but I took a chance after riding a few carbon frame, Ultegra bikes locally. I've had this bike for less than a week with only 100 miles on it, but so far, it's exactly what I was looking for at a great price after one of the additional 25% off weekend deals. Look forward to growing into this bike. It's difficult to compare it to the other bikes I rode because they all felt wonderful in comparison to the 26-year old Trek. Stiff, very responsive, light (to me!) and comfortable at a remarkable price. It was unnerving putting a hacksaw to the seatpost right out of the box, but no problem cutting to length; plenty of post left for adjustment. So far, I've not thrown myself over the front by forgetting the rear brake is on the left hand. ;) Can't go wrong with this bike at this price.

Comments about MEKK Bicycles Mekk Primo 6.5 Carbon Road Bike:

Basically, after looking at the spec and geometry, and seeing all the most recent advances in the bike so it is not outdated or a clearance model from a few years back, I took the plunge. Pleasantly surprised. Was a little nervous as test rides are a commitment since the aero post is a long size that needs to be cut because of an internal seat tube stop. Cutting a carbon proprietary post was one of the drawbacks and I was a bit hesitant to do it just to make sure it was what I thought it was going to be. I am sure Nashbar would have supported a return, but that was still a bit of a leap to take.

The other item that was a little bit of a hassle is that this bike is from the UK, and is delivered with "moto" set-up on the brake controls. So... your typical right hand braking actually goes to the front tire and vice-versa.

After all this, it is a great ride and all that I was expecting. A lighter set of hoops and it is the perfect balance of max performance for the $$. Stiff, aero, pretty comfy for a race bike, and great-looking color scheme.

Giving it 5 because I cant really complain and nit-pick for the price point about anything. Frame could be a little lighter, but aero and stiff equals it out, and top performance with a swanky wheelset is found easily with a sale set of hoops and stock set is easy to sell.
