Comments about Timex Cycle Trainer 2.0 GPS Computer:

This device was good at first. After about 9 months GPS became iffy. Now GPS won't capture at all. Had to purchase sensor to capture speed/distance info. BUT, without a GPS signal you can't set the date or time on the device! Not using the on-device configuration or the software from Timex! Major flaw!In my research I've noted Timex does not seem to make this device anymore.

Comments about Timex Cycle Trainer 2.0 GPS Computer:

Heart rate monitor worked great, but the GPS would not work. I called Timex, but they said it would be a long time before they could help me because the product was discontinued. Luckily, I called Nashbar and they returned my product for a full refund right away!

Comments about Timex Cycle Trainer 2.0 GPS Computer:

I purchased this for myself because of a good deal that Nashbar had on it at the time. Putting aside the "price match" issue that didn't happen with Nashbar, I am satisfied with the purchase. It has many features, including WAAS GPS (more accurate tracking), compass setting, waypoint and route tracking (simple), and MANY Screens that can be customized for data display while riding. While the many screens could be a plus, I'd like to have only 2-3 to reduce the need for cycling through them, but that cannot be changed. it seems to be pretty accurate for GPS Tracking, but I am probably going to get a SPEED SENSOR to make the distance calc more accurate. The unit came with the HR strap which is nice.

The only BIG drawback is twofold: the unit outputs data as a PWX file, which cannot be directly imported into Strava and the Timex device cannt directly sync with strava. As such, the file has to be converted to a GPX or TCX file. There are a couple of free web-based programs that do the conversion, but when converted the file gets stamped with the wrong time and my rides are not synced with my friends. A work-around I discovered is to use "Golden Cheetah" which allows me to manually override the time stamp prior to importing into Strava. A little hassle, an extra step, but it works.

    In summation:
    - Is it PERFECT? No! It could stand to have a firmware update (latest FW is from 2012) and play better with Strava.
    - Would I buy it again? For the price I paid ($120 delivered) YES! compared to a garmin 500 with HRM at $250/$300 definitely worth it.
    - this is my first GPS Cycle computer, but not my first cycle computer. Garmin is like an iphone, this is like an android phone.

    Timex Cycle Trainer 2.0

Comments about Timex Cycle Trainer 2.0 GPS Computer:

I was looking for an inexpensive GPS, so I could stop using Strava on my phone and killing my battery.
This Timex and The Garmin units were the only ones with 10+ hour battery's, which was important for an upcoming endurance event.

I use the included HR strap on my MTB and road bike, and purchased a Garmin ANT+ cadence sensor for the road bike. This combination was the least expensive, and most useful setup I could find.

The unit isn't quite as user friendly as the Garmin Edge's, but the computer software is awesome, and once you get the hang of it - programming via the actual unit is pretty simple. When I am not moving, the GPS usually displays a very slow speed (<0.4MPH) which is slightly annoying, but doesn't affect the data significantly. I have about 1,000 MTB miles with the Unit, and have not had any major problems.

Uploading the data to Strava requires an extra step to convert to .tcx which is annoying, but something that has now become second nature. It adds about a minute to the total process.

Comments about Timex Cycle Trainer 2.0 GPS Computer:

Nice large screen that can be rotated (landscape or portrait), great illumination for night cycling, good software (and you can use their web based system too), can view 6 data sets at once per screen, good battery life, easy to recharge with USB cable and I can switch between my road and mountain bikes without having to change any settings. Very easy to setup, an even easier when you connect it to your PC because you can program everything right from it.

Down side - it doesn't come with a speed/cadence Ant+ sensor. A big deal to me because the gps speed is slow to react. While you can buy an ANT+ sensor from just about anywhere I feel this should come with it. Unfortunately Nashbar doesn't sell one that works, I've read that you can't use the Garmin Ant+ sensors. It comes with a heart rate monitor, which works very well.
