Diamondback Overdrive Comp 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive
Satiate your desire to storm some singletrack with gusto courtesy of the Diamondback Overdrive Comp 29er mountain bike. This aluminum hardtail 29er, complete with a full Deore 2x10 drivetrain and Deore hydraulic brakes, packs quite a punch and definitely hits above its weight in terms of performance and value.

At its core is a rocket ship of a frame hand-built from 6061-T6 aluminum in custom formed and butted tubing that exemplifies strength and light weight. There's a superb RockShox XC30 TK 29" suspension fork whose 100mm of travel smooths out the roughest of terrain. Additionally, the fork's 1-1/8" to 1.5" tapered head tube creates a stiff front end to deliver crisp, accurate steering while fine-tuning the ride is made easy via the fork's external rebound plus TurnKey lock-out controls.

Components-wise, you can do no wrong with a Shimano Deore drivetrain. Featuring a full package of 2x10 shifters, front and rear derailleurs, and crankset, precision shifting and bombproof performance through the nastiest of conditions is at your disposal. There's more Shimano Deore spec'd for brakes as the hydraulic discs, featuring 180mm front and 160mm rear rotors, effortlessly delivers ample stopping power in any conditions.

And no doubt you've opted for a 29er because of their large-diameter wheels - ideal for rolling smooth and fast over rough terrain - and the Overdrive Comp has you covered with a rock-solid wheelset. There's the incredibly reliable SL7 aluminum doublewall rims, 32-hole SL7 aluminum hubs, plus tried-and-true 14g spokes laced in a 3x pattern. Rounding out the wheelset is a set of Schwalbe Rapid Rob 29x2.25 tires that sport an aggressive, all-around tread pattern for incredible bite plus a kevlar belt to maximize puncture resistance. No doubt you can trust this rig to take you the extra mile.

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Comp 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

This is my first mountain bike, so I don't have much to compare it to, but after taking it out on all kinds of trails I do have some thoughts and feedback.

Assembly: The back wheel was assembled backwards. I don't think it makes much of a difference when riding, but certainly a bit sloppy by the assembly team's part. Make sure your handlebars are attached properly, mine became loose at a very inopportune moment that could have resulted in a bad fall, but I got lucky.

The bike: I think this bike has great handling, killer brakes, good pedals, nice wheels, and a decent fork. Like others said, it's probably smart to lube up the fork occasionally, though I haven't reached that point yet where the fork is getting stuck.
Where an upgrade is absolutely required if you're panning to ride rough trails is the derailleur. The bike comes with a derailleur that doesn't have a clutch and therefore it bounces around immensely. I ended up breaking the derailleur on some rough trail which nearly cost me the wheel as well after the chain got sucked in. Upgrading to a derailleur with a clutch (80%) made the world of a difference and IMO fixed the biggest shortcoming of this bike. It's too bad this bike doesn't come stock with this piece.

This is a great deal, especially if you can get it on sale. I was looking to spend twice this amount for an MTB, but this had everything I needed. I'm having some minor issues with the front brake, but that's it.

I can not say anything bad about this bike.superb handling. I'm 5'9 and I ordered the 16" and it fits perfect.brakes are awesome, shifts like a dream,I put shimano mx80 pedals on it and a new seat to compliment the already bullet proof bike. If you decide to buy this bike you will not be disappointed.

Love this bike, perfect for me, I'm 6'1", 175-180 and the 20" fits perfect. After 20 plus years riding 26" mountain bikes I finally found the correct bike for me. 29er's do have the drawback of tight handling but I'm adjusting. Some reviews complained about hard saddle and grips, that's what padded shorts and gloves are for. This is a great deal for the money.

Shimano hydraulic brakes and rock shock fork are sweet. I did my homework and couldn't find a bike close to this one for the price. I've ridden it 8 times and I'm still smiling. I bought the large which turned out to be perfect for me. I'm 6' with long arms.

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Comp 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

Weekend riding. Bike was easy to put together and only needed minor adjustments (centered rotor in calipers and preload of fork). Customer service was great, they answered all my questions before I purchased and were spot on with the frame size (I am 5' 11" and I bought the 18). I would definitely buy this bike again especially with the killer discount. Was a little nervous about the 29er wheels but I am really happy that I got them. They roll over so much with such ease. Really happy with the fork on this bike.

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Comp 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

Great purchase. Highly pleased with the component set on this bike. Was about to purchase locally a Kona Lava Dome as I had the same bike, only 18 years older and it was time for an upgrade. For the same price the Kona was out the door, $650, I was able to get this deal with the Nashbar 25% off, making around 640 before taxes. I showed the dealer the specs on this bike and the closest Kona bike he could match it with was around the $1200 range. Once I found out through research that the same company in makes frames for DiamondBack also makes Kona, it was a no brainer. Was a bit concerned buying before riding it, but Nashbar has a excellent return policy, which made me confident.

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Comp 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

This is my first bike that I bought to commute on gravel roads to work, and also to keep up with my horse buddies on the trail. I've only ridden it a few times and so far I love it. I'm a roadie so adapting to a bike that weighs 3x my road bike was a change (hauling it upstairs sucks now!), and riding trail is a whole new scary concept. However, it was easy to assemble and has been really fun to ride. I threw some cheapie shimano pedals on (it already weighs a lot so who cares about carbon pedals at this point...) and I'm going to switch the saddle out. I also upgrade my handlebar grips to Oury grips in hot pink. Booyah.

Definitely a great bike for this average, recreational, new to mountain biking cyclist. The price was just right with the sales, too. No complaints. At first I thought it was too big (I'm 5'6, 31.5" inseam and I bought the small), but I got on and it was fantastic. Love those 29s when I roll through filbert fields and bumpy trails.

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Comp 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

I've been wanting to get a high dollar full suspension mountain bike for quite some time. However, since I'm out of shape, I didn't want to spend thousands on a bike I might not fully utilize...at least not at this point in time. Realizing a hard tail would be a nice compromise, a simpler design and less cost, I set out to find my rig. I was pretty surprised when I found out that I had to spend well over $1K to find what I could consider a "decent" ride. Until I found this bike on sale for a really cheap price delivered.

Having a full Deore drive train is amazing at this price. It is reliable and responsive. I would say the biggest weakness is the front fork, it's pretty heavy with not a lot of adjustments. If you haven't looked at replacement forks, brand new they are crazy expensive. If that is a deal breaker for you, then I'd certainly spend a lot more on a bike to get that upgraded fork.

Besides weight and little adjustments, the fork feels pretty nice. Be warned, because it is not an air shock you cannot adjust for weight. I had to buy a ~$30 heavier spring for myself, but it was well worth the investment.

Looking forward to getting into shape with this bike. I figure if I do, I'll keep this bike as a backup as mountain bikes need maintenance and it's always nice to have a spare.

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Comp 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

Bought this bike so I could ride FATS (trail system in SC) and does not disappoint! Previous bike was a hybrid with 3x7 entry level Shimano and rim brakes; having the Deore XT 2x10 and hydraulic discs are a huge upgrade. I wouldn't call this bike heavy, but it's not going to win any weight weenie awards. With the sale price and 21% off special I basically got a $1200 bike for under $750...try finding that kind of deal at your LBS: most bikes in that price range have mechanical discs and MAYBE 9-speed gears if you're lucky. Only issue I have with the construction is the silly little plastic clips that are supposed to hold the shift cables on. Almost lost one right after assembly and definitely lost one somewhere on the trail today. Luckily you can use a zip tie for the same effect and a bit more rugged.

Bottom line: unless you have to have full suspension, buy this bike!
