Diamondback Overdrive Comp 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive
Satiate your desire to storm some singletrack with gusto courtesy of the Diamondback Overdrive Comp 29er mountain bike. This aluminum hardtail 29er, complete with a full Deore 2x10 drivetrain and Deore hydraulic brakes, packs quite a punch and definitely hits above its weight in terms of performance and value.

At its core is a rocket ship of a frame hand-built from 6061-T6 aluminum in custom formed and butted tubing that exemplifies strength and light weight. There's a superb RockShox XC30 TK 29" suspension fork whose 100mm of travel smooths out the roughest of terrain. Additionally, the fork's 1-1/8" to 1.5" tapered head tube creates a stiff front end to deliver crisp, accurate steering while fine-tuning the ride is made easy via the fork's external rebound plus TurnKey lock-out controls.

Components-wise, you can do no wrong with a Shimano Deore drivetrain. Featuring a full package of 2x10 shifters, front and rear derailleurs, and crankset, precision shifting and bombproof performance through the nastiest of conditions is at your disposal. There's more Shimano Deore spec'd for brakes as the hydraulic discs, featuring 180mm front and 160mm rear rotors, effortlessly delivers ample stopping power in any conditions.

And no doubt you've opted for a 29er because of their large-diameter wheels - ideal for rolling smooth and fast over rough terrain - and the Overdrive Comp has you covered with a rock-solid wheelset. There's the incredibly reliable SL7 aluminum doublewall rims, 32-hole SL7 aluminum hubs, plus tried-and-true 14g spokes laced in a 3x pattern. Rounding out the wheelset is a set of Schwalbe Rapid Rob 29x2.25 tires that sport an aggressive, all-around tread pattern for incredible bite plus a kevlar belt to maximize puncture resistance. No doubt you can trust this rig to take you the extra mile.

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Comp 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

I'm a beginner, after research decided to spend some money on something bulletproof that could survive crashes better than I could. This bike has full Deore components (usually reserved for more expensive bikes) and it's a great deal to get a bike with so much for so little. I am hard on my stuff and expect to put my bike through its paces. Tires are grippy, the hyd disc brakes are responsive, and shifting is very smooth. I'm 6'3" and 200lbs, the large size 20" frame is perfect for me on this particular bike. This thing is a bit heavy but it is a great climber uphill. I'm a big guy, 29er is a no brainier, I'm riding for fun and a good workout, and I needed something that will be reliable as long as I maintain it properly. My skills are questionable but this bike is building my confidence as I lean on it to pull me through. I'm a frugal guy but this splurge was totally worth it. Can't go wrong with this bike. Buy it and try to break it!

A quick tune up is all that was needed to get it trail worthy. The 29rs roll over the terrain great with minimal effort. The bike performed flawlessly on today's 21 mile maiden voyage. The guys were drooling, especially after I told what kind of killer deal Nashbar gave me!

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Comp 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

I have never mountain biked before I bought this bike and did quite a bit of shopping before deciding to buy this one. I was not sure if I would even like the sport so it was the perfect compromise of cost and reasonable components. It turns out I love the sport and SoCal has a lot to offer in the form of trails, fire roads and single tracks of all levels. I have progressed from simple and easy fire roads to technical single track climbs and downhills with ruts, sand, mud, and rock gardens. This bike has handled it all (mostly) with ease.

9 Months, 60 rides, 920 miles, 108 hours, 84,780 feet of climbing later, and 1 broken arm later(from switching to clip-less pedals) this bike is still holding it's own but is showing some signs of wear. Don't let these scare you because I highly recommend this bike, just think of it as a long term review. When I started I was a heavy, clumsy rider and now I take it down technical black diamond singletracks. I would call this bike torture tested.

I am a 6'4" tall 210lb rider that opted for the 20" bike (should have gone 22"). The fork began squeaking significantly at around 80 hours of saddle time. I thought it was the spring side of the fork squeaking so I did a partial rebuild without any results so it currently still squeaks. This is an upgrade I am strongly considering.

I have had 0 problems with the front derailleur. But the rear derailleur has been finicky the last 100 miles or so. I think this is an artifact of not cleaning the drive-train after every ride. I would regularly clean and lube my chain but paid less attention to derailleurs. The shift cable is starting to wear which is adding additional resistance in the system. The hydraulic brakes work well to stop all 210lb of me. I have worn through 2 sets of pads over the last year but these are inexpensive to replace.

Overall I think this is an awesome bike that can hang with more expensive and full suspension bikes. I highly recommend this bike. This positive review may also speak to the sport but, again, this bike has handled pretty much everything I have thrown at it.

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Comp 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

This is my first mountain bike, so I don't have much to compare it to, but after taking it out on all kinds of trails I do have some thoughts and feedback.

Assembly: The back wheel was assembled backwards. I don't think it makes much of a difference when riding, but certainly a bit sloppy by the assembly team's part. Make sure your handlebars are attached properly, mine became loose at a very inopportune moment that could have resulted in a bad fall, but I got lucky.

The bike: I think this bike has great handling, killer brakes, good pedals, nice wheels, and a decent fork. Like others said, it's probably smart to lube up the fork occasionally, though I haven't reached that point yet where the fork is getting stuck.
Where an upgrade is absolutely required if you're panning to ride rough trails is the derailleur. The bike comes with a derailleur that doesn't have a clutch and therefore it bounces around immensely. I ended up breaking the derailleur on some rough trail which nearly cost me the wheel as well after the chain got sucked in. Upgrading to a derailleur with a clutch (80%) made the world of a difference and IMO fixed the biggest shortcoming of this bike. It's too bad this bike doesn't come stock with this piece.

This is a great deal, especially if you can get it on sale. I was looking to spend twice this amount for an MTB, but this had everything I needed. I'm having some minor issues with the front brake, but that's it.

Love this bike, perfect for me, I'm 6'1", 175-180 and the 20" fits perfect. After 20 plus years riding 26" mountain bikes I finally found the correct bike for me. 29er's do have the drawback of tight handling but I'm adjusting. Some reviews complained about hard saddle and grips, that's what padded shorts and gloves are for. This is a great deal for the money.

Shimano hydraulic brakes and rock shock fork are sweet. I did my homework and couldn't find a bike close to this one for the price. I've ridden it 8 times and I'm still smiling. I bought the large which turned out to be perfect for me. I'm 6' with long arms.

Weekend riding. Bike was easy to put together and only needed minor adjustments (centered rotor in calipers and preload of fork). Customer service was great, they answered all my questions before I purchased and were spot on with the frame size (I am 5' 11" and I bought the 18). I would definitely buy this bike again especially with the killer discount. Was a little nervous about the 29er wheels but I am really happy that I got them. They roll over so much with such ease. Really happy with the fork on this bike.

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Comp 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

Great purchase. Highly pleased with the component set on this bike. Was about to purchase locally a Kona Lava Dome as I had the same bike, only 18 years older and it was time for an upgrade. For the same price the Kona was out the door, $650, I was able to get this deal with the Nashbar 25% off, making around 640 before taxes. I showed the dealer the specs on this bike and the closest Kona bike he could match it with was around the $1200 range. Once I found out through research that the same company in makes frames for DiamondBack also makes Kona, it was a no brainer. Was a bit concerned buying before riding it, but Nashbar has a excellent return policy, which made me confident.
