Diamondback Overdrive Pro 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive
Carbon fiber gets a lot of attention these days, but it was aluminum that was first used to build ridiculously light bikes. The Diamondback Overdrive Pro 29er mountain bike continues that high-performance hardtail legacy by incorporating tried and true 6061-T6 aluminum in custom formed and butted tubing that exemplifies strength and light weight. Its 1-1/8" to 1.5" tapered head tube creates a stiff front end to deliver crisp, accurate steering, and the forged rear dropouts with a replaceable derailleur hanger ensure a serviceable, long life. Up front, the Fox 32 Float CTD 29" suspension fork gives you 100mm of travel; plenty for blazing along cross country singletrack. The fork also features external rebound and lock out plus a 15mm thru-axle for stiffness and security under acceleration.

Speaking of tried and true, the Shimano 2x10 drivetrain is the epitome of reliability, strength, and precision. Shifting is handled by a Shimano SLX Rapidfire 2x10 setup on the bars, a Shimano Deore front derailleur, plus the exemplary Shimano XT Shadow SGS rear derailleur. There's also a Shimano SLX 38/24T crankset as well as a bombproof Shimano HG50 10-speed cassette.

Oodles of precision stopping power is supplied by the Shimano Deore hydraulic disc brakes, complete with XT rotors. The fast-rolling 29" wheels feature incredibly reliable SL7 aluminum doublewall rims as well as 32-hole SL7 aluminum hubs. Rounding out the wheelset is a set of Schwalbe Rapid Rob 29x2.25 tires that sport an aggressive, all-around tread pattern for incredible bite plus a kevlar belt to maximize puncture resistance.

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Pro 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

I have owned the Diamondback Overdrive Pro 29er Mountain Bike for 4 weeks and have put about 500 miles with total elevation gains of over 17,000 feet in Colorado. Shifting works great even under extreme pressure of steep grades of over 14 percent. The light weight frame is a huge plus on climbs. The bike is very stable upon decent. The only items added after purchase were bottle cages and pedals. The front shocks perform great, and even though this bike is a hardtail, it provides and very comfortable ride. I have received many compliments on its looks by other avid cyclists and ordinary folks too. I am extremely happy with my purchase and highly recommend this product.

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Pro 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

Picked this up on sale and I'm very impressed thus far. I have been out of mountain biking for many years but it's time!!! I researched new/used and queried the wise and, for the money, this seemed like a good bet. I have yet to take it off-road but just riding it, I like the feel. I noticed many reviews complaining about the weight but, compared to the bikes I've ridden in the past, it seems relatively light to me. Assembly of the brakes was pretty annoying but do-able. Otherwise it was simple to get up and going. I am 6'2" and bought the 22". If I was 1/2 shorter I'd likely go with the 20". (the step- over height is accurate.)
All-in-all it seems like a lot of bike for the money.

Great bike, just comes with a krap wheel set. I weigh 250 lbs - 6'-2" and ride aggressively, so the first day I had it out I heard the rear hub moan other reviews had mentioned. Put some awesome Tubeless mavics on it and its rocks. Good components!!

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Pro 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

This 29er was quite a deal after a 25% discount! Easy to assemble out of the box (I do have a workstand and a complete set of cycling tools). I needed only to adjust the brake alignment and then it was ready to ride. I have so far taken the bike out for several trail rides and really like the handling, climbing, braking and overall feel. I have a more expensive carbon Giant 29er hardtail and in some ways I liked the feel of the Diamondback OD better, especially on gravel or loose pack trails. Surprisingly, the stock saddle seemed fine to me. This bike is also a solid platform for further upgrading although so far I am quite happy with the current componentry. I am 5'11" and the 18" frame fit well.

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Pro 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

I have been Mtn. biking for 30 years now and have ridden many bikes. I was very skeptical about buying a 29er hard tail. But to my surprise this bike is such a pleasure on the trail! It's fast, rolls over terrain like nothing else and just plain handles well due to the Fox fork and 2.25 tires helping out big time.
There are a few things I plan on changing and that will be the stem, It's to short for my liking. The seat, It's to flat and wide. And lastly the rims. The rims are extremely heavy and are the only thing in my opinion that seriously holds this bike back. If your a experienced biker it will be the first thing you will notice. The money you save buying this bike will make a new rim set purchase a no brainer. Lighter rims will make this bike the deal of the century!
I had some doubts about buying a bike and having it sent from Ohio To California. When I recieved the bike it was boxed extremely well and was not damaged at all. The hardest thing for me was to get the bike out of the box!! If you have experience wrenching on your own bikes it will take you no time to put it together. As I see it some may struggle with attaching the front brake caliper to the fork and adjusting the front derailuer.
If you have doubts about 29ers don't worry. This bike handles better than any 26er full suspension bike I've owned. It took me no time to adjust to the wheel size. The only thing I noticed about the 29er was that it is slightly harder to negotiate tight switchbacks. Alot of companies are selling 27.5 wheeled bikes and why I don't know. 29ers in my opinion is the way to go.

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Pro 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

I did a lot of research and shopped around, both online and in the local bike shops and everytime I kept coming back to the Diamondback Overdrive Pro. For the money it's the best value out there. The components (SLX/XT) and the Fox Float Shock sold me. The bike was easy to put together. The front brake caliper alignment was probably the most difficult to get right. The cables to both derailleurs seemed to be put on only finger tight and when I tried to shift the cables slipped and didn't shift, which was kind of dissappointing, but after a few adjustments I finally had it dialed in. The seat that came with it was very hard and uncomfortable so I replaced it with a Sella Royal gel seat, which made all the difference in the world. The bike is a little heavier than I expected and it's probably the same or even a little heavier than the steel frame mountain bike it replaced, probably due to the larger and heavier 29" wheels/tires. I have not had a chance to take it out for a spin yet, we are currently in the middle of some cold wintery mess here on the east coast, but I am looking forward to taking it out when the weather breaks. Overall I am very happy with my purchase and with Nashbar in general.

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Pro 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

I wanted a step up in quality and components from my old bike and I sure got it! At 6'3" and 228#, I was concerned about the fit, as I was opting for the 20. No worries, though I do have the seat post maxed out. It took me a bit to get the bike set up and dialed in (I'm no bike mechanic, but know my way around a wrench); a bit of patience and internet access to manuals for components and video for set-up had me in good stead in a day or so. I don't have a "quiver" of bikes; this is my all around. I prefer a mountain bike for most the riding I do as I live rurally, prefer riding dirt roads and find it hard to resist a trail through the woods. A short ride for me is 10 miles, 50 miles is a push, 2 to 3 times a week, when I can. I would suggest a high pressure pump with gauge to set up the forks; I spent more than a bit of time with my shop air compressor to get the pressure right. I have them set up stiff (15% sag), and haven't been in conditions yet to play with the switch on the fork to see its advantage; it's deer season, so trail rides are risky! Also, the seat proved a bit hard for my.. uh.. tastes, so I opted for a gel cover, though I do like the positive adjustment for seat angle and fore/aft. I can't speak to durability yet; I've only managed around 200 miles since the purchase, but it sure seems solid. Much lighter than my old bike and the frame is stiffer. Once the deraillers were dialed in they shift like a dream. I had 3x7 gearing on the old bike; I'm delightfully surprised by the 2x10, but haven't really been in conditions to test the smaller ring yet, as most of my local rides are relatively flat. Love the look of the bike, though I could do with a few less stickers. The brakes are awesome; light pressure yields very positive results! I replaced the pedals with Nashbar dualies, which I prefer; clip-in for long hauls, trap-side for town and tight trails. This is my first experience with a 29er and I'm loving it! Smooths out those rough trails and roads and, it might be a push to say I'm faster, but it sure seems like it.

One of the people that wrote a review said he got it as a birthday gift for his self so I did the same. I was worried about spending this much for a bike before I tried it. Very pleased with quality of this bike! Bicycle blue book says it's worth more as a used bike then I paid for it. I would recomend it for anyone wanting a 29er. I don't think the price can be beat for such quality. LBS said the same. I'm far from a top of the line athlete, but I feel like a winner with this purchase. You'll be glad you did it.

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Pro 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

Every bike evaluation is dependent on how much you paid for the bike. I extensively researched options before deciding to purchase the Overdrive Pro, and I am happy with the decision. For the price, this bike is excellent. I bought the 22" frame, and I am 6'4". The bike feels a tiny bit small on the legs, I wish the seat would go up an inch taller. But it feels right-sized for the upper body. My bike weighed in at 33 pounds, and I bought upgraded tires to save over a pound and to provide better acceleration. THe assembly was realtively straight-forward, but if you aren't a wrench-head, then I would recommend getting some help. THe most challenging part of the assembly was getting the front disc brake caliper aligned and installed correctly. The second-most challenging thing was getting the headset correct. It was way too tight, but if you understand how it works, it's reasonably easy to get it adjusted correctly. Everything else was pretty easy: the gears were correctly set up, the back brake was fine, and the shock was correctly pressurized. THe 2x10 drivetrain is totally adequate for all types of riding; I had no wish for bigger or smaller gears once I was on the trails. I didn't particularly like the new grips because I was more comfortable with my old Oury grips; the new ones have a smaller diameter than I am comfortable with (even with padded gloves). The saddle isn't the greatest; it is slender and it is easy to get behind it on descents, but it is not comfortable for sit-and-spin times. I did not carefully inspect the front and rear wheel bearings, and I was a bit concerned the front might be too tight, but I have not investigated that further. THe riding characteristics were all positive. I ride mostly fast, flowy, non-tech trails, and I was able to keep up with guys who are usually faster than me. The new 29" wheels do take a little getting used to, I found that corners feel a lot different compared to my 26" wheels, but that is something that I am sure I can adjust to. Overall, Nashbar has the lowest price by far on this bike compare to other major retailers, and this bike has a lot of solid components at this price point, and I think this is an excellent bike for the buck.
