Diamondback Overdrive Pro 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive
Carbon fiber gets a lot of attention these days, but it was aluminum that was first used to build ridiculously light bikes. The Diamondback Overdrive Pro 29er mountain bike continues that high-performance hardtail legacy by incorporating tried and true 6061-T6 aluminum in custom formed and butted tubing that exemplifies strength and light weight. Its 1-1/8" to 1.5" tapered head tube creates a stiff front end to deliver crisp, accurate steering, and the forged rear dropouts with a replaceable derailleur hanger ensure a serviceable, long life. Up front, the Fox 32 Float CTD 29" suspension fork gives you 100mm of travel; plenty for blazing along cross country singletrack. The fork also features external rebound and lock out plus a 15mm thru-axle for stiffness and security under acceleration.

Speaking of tried and true, the Shimano 2x10 drivetrain is the epitome of reliability, strength, and precision. Shifting is handled by a Shimano SLX Rapidfire 2x10 setup on the bars, a Shimano Deore front derailleur, plus the exemplary Shimano XT Shadow SGS rear derailleur. There's also a Shimano SLX 38/24T crankset as well as a bombproof Shimano HG50 10-speed cassette.

Oodles of precision stopping power is supplied by the Shimano Deore hydraulic disc brakes, complete with XT rotors. The fast-rolling 29" wheels feature incredibly reliable SL7 aluminum doublewall rims as well as 32-hole SL7 aluminum hubs. Rounding out the wheelset is a set of Schwalbe Rapid Rob 29x2.25 tires that sport an aggressive, all-around tread pattern for incredible bite plus a kevlar belt to maximize puncture resistance.

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Pro 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

    Diamondback Overdrive Pro:

Shipping and Set up: Bike arrived on time from Nashbar and the packaging was in good order. The unboxing and set up went fairly smooth. The front brake needs to be mounted and both calipers needed adjusting. Simple tools, a bike stand and Youtube can make almost anyone very capable of doing this on your own. The front derailleur was also way out of adjustment. I basically had to remount it and start from scratch. After setting it up the bike was a joy to ride.

Drivetrain: The Deore XT level components shift as smooth as butter and the brakes modulate very nicely. I went with this 2X10 system because I know how I ride and what my needs are currently. While I'd love a new 1X12 it simply wasn't in budget at this time. Maybe an upgrade when this set wears out.

Tires: The Schwalbe Rapid Rob tires cake up quickly so keep that in mind if you are riding in wet clay like I am. When it's dry out the tires roll well and grip is fairly even through corners. These aren't lightweight racing tires but they should provide plenty of grip (dry conditions) and last a good amount of time.

Wheels: Heavy and not true out of the box. I had a few spokes that weren't even finger tight out of the box. A quick trip to my LBS got them straightened out but these are probably not going to last me very long. Of everything on this bike the wheels are probably the weakest link. That being said they aren't throwaways by any means.

Pedals: I didn't try the Wellgo pedals, instead opting to some Crank Brother Mallet 3's.

Grips, Bars and Seatpost: Diamondback house brands work nicely and save $ for things that matter more to most riders. Well done DB! The grips do lock on which is a plus so there is no sliding around.

Saddle: Surprisingly the saddle from DB is comfortable! 'Nuff said!

Fork: The Fox Float 32 is amazing! I can't say enough good things about this fork. Easily tunable and it performs amazing.

Overall great bike for a great price!

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Pro 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

First off my last bike was a hand me down that was 2 sizes too big and worn out. Going from that to this was huuuuuge! It looks awesome! I am 5'11. The medium fits me great. I changed the pedals to a set of race face Chester. I changed the seat. Probably going to change again. The three points of contact are super important ( grips, seat, pedals). The worst thing so far are the tires. The back tire spins out pretty easy when pedaling hard in loose stuff and they cake up easy ,not giving much grip, when the terrain is even mildly moist. And get a"good" lbs to put it together. I had one lbs put it together and had to take it to a better one to really have the drivetrain dialed in.

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Pro 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

I bought this bike one year ago as a Christmas present for myself!

It has been great, I have probably averaged about 25-30 miles per week of aggressive single track riding. I lived in Colorado for the first six months and have lived in Hawaii for the last six months, so I have covered a wide variety of challenging terrain on the Diamondback Overdrive Pro.

This bike climbs, descends, and corners well. It is also durable. I have often ridden with people who are riding much more expensive bikes with loads of front and rear suspension and on the Overdrive I can usually stay with the big bikes on the downhills and then I get away on the climbs. This is an ideal bike for an avid mountain biker on a budget. The components are reliable, and the fork is really nice.

The wheels may be the biggest weakness, mainly because the are heavy. However, I have beat on them pretty hard and they have gotten the job done. I have had to true them a few times, but I smash them into rocks and roots pretty hard. For Christmas this year I ordered myself a new tubeless ready wheel-set which should drop a couple lbs from the bike. I also am not a fan of the Rapid Rob tires that come with the bike, though tires are specific to the terrain one rides. I like a little more aggressive, and slightly higher volume tires, especially on the front.

Overall a great bike for the money, and I would recommend it. To get a similarly equipped big name bike one would likely need to spend at least several hundred dollars more.

I have owned the Diamondback Overdrive Pro 29er Mountain Bike for 4 weeks and have put about 500 miles with total elevation gains of over 17,000 feet in Colorado. Shifting works great even under extreme pressure of steep grades of over 14 percent. The light weight frame is a huge plus on climbs. The bike is very stable upon decent. The only items added after purchase were bottle cages and pedals. The front shocks perform great, and even though this bike is a hardtail, it provides and very comfortable ride. I have received many compliments on its looks by other avid cyclists and ordinary folks too. I am extremely happy with my purchase and highly recommend this product.

Picked this up on sale and I'm very impressed thus far. I have been out of mountain biking for many years but it's time!!! I researched new/used and queried the wise and, for the money, this seemed like a good bet. I have yet to take it off-road but just riding it, I like the feel. I noticed many reviews complaining about the weight but, compared to the bikes I've ridden in the past, it seems relatively light to me. Assembly of the brakes was pretty annoying but do-able. Otherwise it was simple to get up and going. I am 6'2" and bought the 22". If I was 1/2 shorter I'd likely go with the 20". (the step- over height is accurate.)
All-in-all it seems like a lot of bike for the money.

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Pro 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

This 29er was quite a deal after a 25% discount! Easy to assemble out of the box (I do have a workstand and a complete set of cycling tools). I needed only to adjust the brake alignment and then it was ready to ride. I have so far taken the bike out for several trail rides and really like the handling, climbing, braking and overall feel. I have a more expensive carbon Giant 29er hardtail and in some ways I liked the feel of the Diamondback OD better, especially on gravel or loose pack trails. Surprisingly, the stock saddle seemed fine to me. This bike is also a solid platform for further upgrading although so far I am quite happy with the current componentry. I am 5'11" and the 18" frame fit well.

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Pro 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

I have been Mtn. biking for 30 years now and have ridden many bikes. I was very skeptical about buying a 29er hard tail. But to my surprise this bike is such a pleasure on the trail! It's fast, rolls over terrain like nothing else and just plain handles well due to the Fox fork and 2.25 tires helping out big time.
There are a few things I plan on changing and that will be the stem, It's to short for my liking. The seat, It's to flat and wide. And lastly the rims. The rims are extremely heavy and are the only thing in my opinion that seriously holds this bike back. If your a experienced biker it will be the first thing you will notice. The money you save buying this bike will make a new rim set purchase a no brainer. Lighter rims will make this bike the deal of the century!
I had some doubts about buying a bike and having it sent from Ohio To California. When I recieved the bike it was boxed extremely well and was not damaged at all. The hardest thing for me was to get the bike out of the box!! If you have experience wrenching on your own bikes it will take you no time to put it together. As I see it some may struggle with attaching the front brake caliper to the fork and adjusting the front derailuer.
If you have doubts about 29ers don't worry. This bike handles better than any 26er full suspension bike I've owned. It took me no time to adjust to the wheel size. The only thing I noticed about the 29er was that it is slightly harder to negotiate tight switchbacks. Alot of companies are selling 27.5 wheeled bikes and why I don't know. 29ers in my opinion is the way to go.

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Pro 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

I did a lot of research and shopped around, both online and in the local bike shops and everytime I kept coming back to the Diamondback Overdrive Pro. For the money it's the best value out there. The components (SLX/XT) and the Fox Float Shock sold me. The bike was easy to put together. The front brake caliper alignment was probably the most difficult to get right. The cables to both derailleurs seemed to be put on only finger tight and when I tried to shift the cables slipped and didn't shift, which was kind of dissappointing, but after a few adjustments I finally had it dialed in. The seat that came with it was very hard and uncomfortable so I replaced it with a Sella Royal gel seat, which made all the difference in the world. The bike is a little heavier than I expected and it's probably the same or even a little heavier than the steel frame mountain bike it replaced, probably due to the larger and heavier 29" wheels/tires. I have not had a chance to take it out for a spin yet, we are currently in the middle of some cold wintery mess here on the east coast, but I am looking forward to taking it out when the weather breaks. Overall I am very happy with my purchase and with Nashbar in general.
