Diamondback Overdrive Sport 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive
Have you been searching for a reliable 29er mountain bike you can trust to get you out on the trails (and back home, too!) - all at a remarkable price? Look no further than the Diamondback Overdrive Sport 29er, an entry-level mountain bike that in reality is anything but. It's trail-ready plus light, comfortable, and versatile enough to be your do-all bike whether you're into commuting, pedaling around the neighborhood or greenway, or just getting more fit.

The Overdrive Sport's backbone is a hand-built 6061-T6 aluminum alloy frame featuring tubing formed and butted for both strength and light weight. What this means out on the trail or on the road is that you're piloting a nimble, maneuverable machine. You'll revel in the comfort and precision steering supplied by the SR Suntour XCR-LO suspension fork featuring a plush 100mm of travel to smooth out rough terrain. The fork also sports a Lock Out feature (hence the LO in its name) that enables you to maximize power transfer in situations where suspension isn't necessary, such as climbing or rolling along on asphalt or other smooth, hard-pack surfaces.

A 3x9-speed drivetrain with Shimano Altus shifters and a Shimano Acera rear derailleur means 27 easy, smooth, and responsive shifting options for steep climbs, instant acceleration, or prolonged efforts. This makes for excellent performance when pedaling off-road on strenuous terrain as well as easy, comfortable trips across town for work, school, or weekend cruising. And rest assured you can stop at a moment's notice with a set of Shimano hydraulic disc brakes delivering plenty of power and control.

No doubt you've opted for a 29er because of their large-diameter wheels - ideal for rolling smooth and fast over rough terrain - and the Overdrive Sport certainly delivers with a splendid wheelset. There's some incredibly reliable SL7 aluminum doublewall rims, 32-hole SL7 aluminum hubs, plus tried-and-true 14g spokes laced in a 3x pattern. This all equates to a rugged set-up that can tame any terrain. Rounding out the wheelset is a set of Schwalbe Rapid Rob 29x2.25 tires that sport an aggressive, all-around tread pattern for incredible bite plus a kevlar belt to maximize puncture resistance.
  • Hand-built 6061-T6 aluminum 29er hardtail frame features custom formed and butted tubing for strength, stiffness, and light weight
  • SR Suntour XCR-LO suspension fork provides 100mm of travel for optimal comfort and control off-road plus a lock out feature
  • Shimano Altus and Acera 3x9 drivetrain delivers smooth shifting and gearing for any terrain
  • Shimano hydraulic disc brakes serve up plenty of stopping power
  • Aluminum, 32-hole DB SL7 wheels are strong and reliable

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Sport 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

I bought the sport on sale to replace a previous Overdrive I had stolen from me. Nashbar shipped the bike quickly and the box arrived undamaged. When putting on the front wheel I noticed it did not turn easy. I adjusted the bearings but that didnt fix it. Disassembly and adding grease solved that problem. Next it was time to fix RD shifting. The rear derailleur is MUCH cheaper than the one on my previous bike and it was bent. After straightening the bike shifted OK, but not as good as it should. Rear caliper was installed offset a bit and the disk was rubbing the caliper. Easy adjustment. Forks work well and the lockout setting does its job when needed. These forks are MUCH beefier than typical. Buy it and go have some off-road fun!

I'm just getting back into cycling and wanted something that could handle both the bike paths and the local trails. An entry level 29er is the ticket. At this price range the Shimano hydro brakes and XCR fork are hard to come by and set this "Sport" model apart from other entry level choices. The next step up to an air fork and Deore will run you up to the $1k price range and this bike on sale is half of that. Unless you are heading towards more serious off road use this bike will do just fine.

Nice bike. Seems to be well made. Welds are clean with no gaps and paint is really good looking. Assembly was a breeze until I got to the pedal installation. I could not get them to thread until I realized the thread direction stickers were on the wrong side. After I figured that out had no problem. Even so assembly took less than 30 minutes after unpacking.

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Sport 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

Got the Overdrive Sport here at Nashbar for a great price, combining a regular sale with a one day extra percentage off. I decided to try a 29er after my son grew into my 26" Jamis Durango.

There was a small glitch upon delivery, as the bb spindle arrived slightly bent, resulting in some front derailleur rub that I couldn't adjust out. A short email to DB customer service resulted in a new, upgraded bb delivered to me in two days! Problem solved, and props to Diamondback for a quick response.

I ended up converting the bike to 1x9, using existing parts and adding only a chain guide. It really simplified things, and I still have all the gearing I need.

The bike held up to a week long camping trip with the family, and about 100 miles of varied riding, both on and off road. Not a single problem.

The bike is a bit heavy, but so am I haha, so it isn't a concern. I plan to convert to tubeless, which should help.

Sure, the Overdrive Comp is a better equipped bike, I get that. But at this stage of the game, trying to keep growing kids and a wife in quality, reliable bikes, the Sport was a no brainer at my price point. Hydro brakes, good geometry, and Nashbar's reliability behind the purchase sealed the deal. I would recommend this bike to anyone in my situation, trying to get a lot of bang for the buck. Thanks Nashbar, this isn't my first or last purchase from you.

Comments about Diamondback Overdrive Sport 29er Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

I bought the bike because of the size, I'm 6'2", and probably a bit of brand loyalty since I had a Diamondback as a kid. I plan to commute back and forth to work, but I like the style of a MB better than road bikes. So far I like the bike, although it did arrive with a damaged front sprocket that appears to have happened before the bike was packaged since the box was not damaged. Nashbar is taking care of me and has ordered a drive side crank arm with sprockets. The tech service guy was helpful, but not terribly friendly. But hey, not everyone loves their job or dealing with customers and I'm sure he deals with a few customers who aren't terribly honest about how or when their item was damaged.

I do notice that the back tire was mounted backwards on the rim. I also noticed a clicking in the left peddle that may or may not be attributed to the bent sprocket. I straightened the sprocket as best I could to make due until the new one arrives so I will know more after it is replaced, but it doesn't seem to be since I only feel the click on the left peddle in the same point in the rotation and it varies from slightly noticeable to very noticeable. The derailers seem to be set up perfectly from the factory as each click shifts nice and smooth. I haven't spent much time on the saddle so I haven't determined if I will replace it like other reviewers have. The grips are very firm and I notice my hands fatigue quickly so I will likely upgrade the grips before anything else.

Overall, the bike is very nice I'm glad I bought it; especially at 25% off. Its a good value for an entry level bike under $500. This is my first experience with Nashbar and their customer service has been good. I will likely order two or three more bikes in the next couple years as my kids outgrow their current bikes and if my wife takes an interest in biking with us around the neighborhood.

I plan to begin commuting with the bike for the purpose of losing 15 - 20 lbs. With any luck a Pokemon DoDo doesn't take me out. I received the bike yesterday and unboxed it to find the chain ring on the crankset was damaged. It appeared to be damaged before it was boxed from DB since the box showed no signs of trauma. I contacted Nashbar technical support and got the help I needed, but the dude didn't seem to friendly. I don't know if he doesn't like his job or doesn't like dealing with people in his job. He probably hears a lot of BS and when he realized I wasn't BS'ing him he seemed to lighten up a bit. I sent him an email and with the serial number and photos to prove it wasn't crashed and he said they'd take care of me and told me how to make the bike fucntional until the new part arrived. Unfortunately I have not had a chance to ride it, but should get som miles on tomorrow. Looking forward to riding this beautiful machine@

I really enjoy the bike that I bought! I looked all over town and my main requirement was the lockout fork which this bike had for a price point I couldn't beat! Awesome bike that I enjoy riding! All I had to do was change the chain and have it professionally tuned after assembly and all together I am still three hundred dollars less than buying the more expensive specialized bike with the same components. I'm a first time rider and I'm really confident on the trails and on the road! Awesome buy for the money you won't regret it

Amazing bike for the price if you are going to order a bike online. I looked everywhere and all 6 local bike shops in my city and none had the same components for the price. I purchased on sale and then took in to the lbs to have the wheel which came slightly bent from shipping straightened and the rest put together. The bike itself is heavy in my opinion however anything in this range likely will be. The bike is awesome over simple obstacles and rides in paths like it would on pavement. The fork is way more updated than you will receive until you start shopping in the $700 range. Con was the brake rotor came warped but I believe I've ridden through the pad enough to no longer drag.
