Diamondback Recoil 29er Mountain Bike
Full-suspension mountain bikes don't need to be overly complicated and the Diamondback Recoil 29er shows just how that's done. The frame is built using trusted 6061-T6 aluminum alloy, so you know it's strong, while the formed and butted tubing makes sure to save weight wherever possible. The SR Suntour XCT suspension fork delivers 100mm of travel while the four inches of rear suspension will do wonders to take the edge off roots and rocks on the trail.

Shimano's a name you can trust in the drivetrain department and the 3x8-speed shifters, front and rear derailleurs, and cassette work in unison to provide smooth, reliable, and responsive shifting through its 24 gears. With a triple crank up front and an 11/32T cassette on the rear hub you've got a wide range of gear options to claw your way up the steepest climbs and then put your bike to the test on the way back down. Worry not about slowing down as the Tektro Aires mechanical disc brakes are more than up to the challenge of scrubbing speed and keeping you under control no matter the weather conditions.

Big, 29" wheels keep on turning and are the latest innovation in mountain biking as they reduce rolling resistance and decrease the angle of attack by allowing you to roll over obstacles, like logs or rocks, easier and faster. The Recoil serves up a rock-solid wheel option sporting reliable SL7 aluminum doublewall rims, 32-hole SL7 aluminum hubs, plus tried-and-true 14g spokes laced in a 3x pattern. Rounding out the wheelset is a set of Schwalbe Rapid Rob 29x2.25 tires that sport an aggressive, all-around tread pattern for incredible bite plus a kevlar belt to maximize puncture resistance. Now get out there and enjoy one of life's greatest pleasures - riding a bike out in the woods.
  • Hand-built 6061 T-6 aluminum full-suspension frame is strong, light, and features 4" of travel
  • SR Suntour XCT 100mm suspension fork and Kindshock coil rear shock are perfect to smooth out rocky, rooty, and rugged terrain
  • Shimano 3x8 drivetrain is super reliable and provides wide ratio of gearing to flatten hills and fly down descents
  • Tektro Aries mechanical disc brakes deliver plenty of stopping power
  • Aluminum, 32-hole DB SL7 wheels are strong and reliable
  • Schwalbe Rapid Rob 29x2.25 tires sport an aggressive tread plus a puncture-resistant kevlar belt
  • Alloy components (handlebars, stem, seatpost) are all strong, light, and corrosion resistant

Comments about Diamondback Recoil 29er Mountain Bike:

So this bike certainly won't win any weight competitions, and the components are entry level, but its a great bike to build on. First the bad, the fork weighs a ton, I had a pretty high end fork and swapped and it was comical at the difference in weight. I have used this same model fork before on a hardtail and while heavy, it actually preformed pretty well. I also didn't even try the shock, I knew I wouldn't be satisfied so I added an air chamber type and it works well. I have used the same rims before and they are terrible, first good hit and they are done. I had Mavics so on they went. Basically I guess I just bought a frame, lol.
Mechanical brakes and crank are OK, seat, hubs, post, bars, and stem are also fine. I bought it to put my good parts onto (took these parts and help convert my hardtail to a gravel bike) because lets face it, its cheaper than a frame, and the frame isn't bad at all. Look at it as an OK bike that will accept good upgrades when the time comes, and it will come! One other thing, the shock linkage had zero grease, should add a bit of something there (even though they don't move much). The main pivot is a bearing so not needed there.

Comments about Diamondback Recoil 29er Mountain Bike:

I am a 2 per week mountain (woods) trail rider. Just upgraded from an older high end 26er to this low end 29er and would say they are equivalent. The improvement in wheel size cancels out the downgrade in components. So, for the price this is a good investment since the replacement 26er would have been 4x the price.

Comments about Diamondback Recoil 29er Mountain Bike:

Liked it so much, I bought a second one, so that has got to mean that I like this bike.

Please feel free to also read my other review on my first one.

Plus I wanted to comment that the Aries model brakes on these bikes are better than the Novela series on my different bike, even though it is supposed to be the other way around.

My girlfriend prefers up to moderate level single track trails on hers and she likes the way it feels over other bikes.
I prefer harder trails and I think the bike does acceptable at that level, just as long as you understand the category of this XC trail mountain bike and the price point.

For the $ this intro-bike can't be beat! I upgraded the seat to the "Royal" and also added a Rock-SHOX rear shock absorber for additional comfort, although the coil spring as shipped worked good as well.

Comments about Diamondback Recoil 29er Mountain Bike:

I researched a bunch before purchasing. Wanted inexpensive entry level bike. Extremely happy with this bike. I'm 6'3" 225lbs and this bike fits perfect.I've beat up pretty good and it's held up. I have no problem riding with my friends who hive high end trek and Scott bikes. I would buy this bike again in a heart beat. The bike really isn't that heavy unless you compare to a carbon fiber frame or other high end bikes. If you want a fancy bike with top of the line components then go spend four grand. This is an excellent bike to get you out on the trails and have fun on a budget.

Comments about Diamondback Recoil 29er Mountain Bike:

Bike Nashbar sold me my first MTB many years ago and now I am back :)

This is a great way to see if you would like a 29er before spending a lot of money. This was cheaper than most used HT bikes in my area.

The big selling point for me was the larger front rotor, as my other 29er only has a 160 and it just does not stop the larger and thus heavier wheels.

The downside is that it is heavy at 37 pounds on my bathroom scale and the top tube is still hitting my man parts with a 30" inseam on a 16" frame. Plus at this price range there are no lockouts. Lastly no water bottle mounts, but most bikers use hydration packs anyways, so not a real big deal, unless you have light batteries that are in that shape.

I hope this helps and thank you for reading.

Comments about Diamondback Recoil 29er Mountain Bike:

I use the Recoil 29-er as as recreational bike where I ride the local trails as well as city parks and streets. I ride about 60% on paved surfaces and this bike handles anything you throw at it. At first it seemed a bit too big and the rear shock appeared bouncy, but after a little bit of experience I saw a reduction in that perception.

There isn't much I don't like about the bike it's self ,great quality, comfortable to ride, if you aren't a mechanical person you might need help if your not familiar with bikes, the directions are very general and looks like they would work for several bikes kind of hard to understand, and there are no tools lncluded with it, you don't need many but if they say there included they should be, other than that the bike is awesome great price and would compare to similar bikes that would cost twice this
