Diamondback Atroz Comp Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive
Looking to tame that tough section of trail? The Diamondback Atroz Comp 27.5" full suspension mountain bike is just what you need to make quick work of some serious off-road conditions. The Atroz Comp's foundation is a super-strong 6061-T6 aluminum frame that sports 4" of rear travel courtesy of the RockShox Monarch R air rear shock. The full suspension frame uses a sealed cartridge bearing pivot and is constructed around an optimized single pivot design which is the simplest type of rear suspension because there are few moving parts. Additionally, the frame's elevated chain stays mean you don't have to listen to a bunch of chain slap as you're riding through the rough stuff. Up front there's a RockShox XC 32 with 120mm of travel, TurnKey lock-out, and a 15mm thru-axle to smooth out the ruts and provide superb control.

The Atroz Comp sports a 1x10-speed drivetrain that ensures shifting is a simple and precise proposition. There's a SRAM X5 10-speed shifter mated with a SRAM X7 rear derailleur and SRAM PG1030 11-36T cassette for super smooth gear changing. Add in a Race Face Ride crankset with a 30T Narrow Wide single chainring and you've got exemplary chain retention plus a wide range of gears to tackle any terrain. And for extra insurance on gnarly descents, the full chain guide with roller ensures the chain remains perfectly in place.

Ride with the utmost confidence knowing there's Tektro Gemini hydraulic disc brakes to provide all-weather stopping power. Wheel-wise, you've got incredibly reliable SL7 aluminum doublewall rims, 32-hole SL7 aluminum hubs, plus tried-and-true 14g spokes laced in a 3x pattern that roll smooth all day long. Rounding out the wheelset is a set of Kenda Nevegal X 27.5x2.35" tires that serve up an aggressive, all-around tread pattern for incredible bite.
  • Hand-built 6061 T6 aluminum alloy full suspension frame with 4" travel is strong and lightweight
  • RockShox XC 32 fork provides 120mm travel, TurnKey lock-out, and 15mm thru-axle
  • RockShox Monarch R air spring rear shock floats through the bumps
  • SRAM 1x10-speed drivetrain is simple, intuitive, and provides a range of gears for any terrain
  • Race Face Ride crankset features 30T Narrow Wide single chainring for optimal chain retention
  • SRAM X5 10-speed shifter and SRAM X7 rear derailleur provide smooth, reliable gear changes
  • Chain guide with roller keeps chain securely in place on the roughest of trails
  • Tektro Gemini hydraulic disc brakes with 180/160mm rotors ensure plenty of all-condition stopping power

  • Kenda Nevegal X 27.5x2.35" tires feature an aggressive tread pattern that enhances control on rough terrain

Comments about Diamondback Atroz Comp Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

I was wanting a budget fs bike that I could get started on. I come from motocross so I didn't want to spend a ton if I didn't like it. This bike really surprised me. It's a ton better than my trek Marlin Gary Fisher edition. The shocks did great at soaking up rocks and jumps and drops. I would definitely recommend this bike if you are on a tight budget and want something dependable.

Comments about Diamondback Atroz Comp Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

I needed a 27.5 and this has the best parts for the money. The drive train is a modern 1x10 and has raceface ( id buy anyways ) the bars are about a MILE wide and i will need to cut them down a tad ( maybe ). the shifter is a bit silly to downshift but works good. the tires are the nevegal and maybe the slowest around, but never wear out. the wheels look ok but no eyelets. the brakes are tecro and will get hammered quickly. the forks are strong but heavy rockshocks and same with the back shock. both work good. it takes me a few rides before everything is totally dialed in but this bike WILL GO! I ride some big hills in colorado and this will take them up and down.

Fantastic bike for the price. The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is because the rear derailleur was damaged during shipping so I had to take it to a shop to have them fix it. Nashbar did offer to pay but I did not seek reimbursement.

Comments about Diamondback Atroz Comp Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

I received the bike and the outside of the box was fine but the paint was scratched because the rim was rubbing on the frame from shipping. I had to get the front rim trued. I do notice a creaking sound coming from the bottom bracket area after only a couple of lite rides. The basket has a rough bearing sound when freewheeling down the trail. The shocks seem more than sufficient ffor the trails, good suspension.

Comments about Diamondback Atroz Comp Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

I bought this bike due to the combination of component spec and the frame design, as it seemed to be solidly built and one of the best options at the price point (around $1000 with the usual Nashbar discount). After a few rides, I'm quite happy with the quality, ride and fit (I'm 5'8" and bought the medium.)

Pros: Front and rear RockShox feel great; Cane Creek headset, Race Face bar, stem and crank seem to be good quality; Sram drivetrain components work well; frame and swingarm welds are burly and beautiful. Tires are excellent and the seat is surprisingly decent. The frame includes the fittings to route a front derailleur cable, and the stock crank would allow additional rings...the 1x10 drivetrain works very well, but if you just have to make it a 2x drivetrain, it MIGHT be possible. The Nashbar exclusive black finish is also better looking than the grey offered elsewhere.

Cons: Budget for a high-pressure shock pump right out of the box (both shocks came through low on air). Platform pedals are included (bonus) but plan on replacing before any trail riding. Cost savings on wheels, seatpost, and chain retention system; the freewheel initially rolled quite rough but after a few rides has quieted down and is *slightly* smoother now...time will tell. The seatpost is also DB branded and may be short if you're on the taller side. The chain guide is plastic, has very limited adjustability, adds drag and noise, and makes an excellent chainline much worse. I removed the pieces and have ridden without it but do plan on replacing it (DB was smart enough to use ISCG-05 tabs). Silly plastic clips holding cables to the frame will likely end up lying on a trail somewhere, but the bosses do allow zip-ties as replacement. Minor to-be expected issues include the brake discs needing truing and the chain oil being roughly the consistency of vaseline. While Nashbar has been good to deal with, another concern may the apparent total lack of company support from Sram/RockShox.

All in all, an excellent choice if you are a mechanic or have the means to pay additionally for your LBS to set it up. None of the cost-savings measures are deal-breakers, but the adjustment of shocks, headsets, brakes and drivetrain components need to be done by someone qualified. It's not worth potentially compromising the life of quality components (or your own life) to save a few $$$.

Super happy with this bike. For an entry level full suspension I dont think it can be beat especially for the price. Rode it on some pretty tough trails with lots of boulders/rocks and a few drops as well and it performed great!

Comments about Diamondback Atroz Comp Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

I upgraded to the Atroz Comp from a 26" hardtail. The difference is night and day. I thought I was too slow to hang with the faster guys in my riding group but now they can hardly keep up with me! Simply put it's made mountain biking fun again. I was so worn out on my old bike due to a poor fit and did not enjoy downhill sections of the trail much. This bike has changed all that and everything is smooth and enjoyable now. Great purchase and amazing price. The bike arrived in great condition with all pieces so no worries there.

The 27.5" wheels seem to be roll over lots of terrain smoothly with still being somewhat agile. Love the wheel size.

One thing to note is that the handlebar is ridiculously wide (31.5"). If you ride through tight forest it's not going to work as is. I cut mine down to 28" (720mm) and it seems to be a good width.

Overall awesome bike! Use it for PA rocky rooty single track. The suspension eats up all of the bumps. The geometry is great. The bike turns like a dream. Keeping speed pedaling is so easy with the 1x10 gearing. The bike shifts effortlessly. The one thing I dont like is the brakes. They could be a little more powerful and then are pretty loud. Other than that I love the bike. I am 6'225lbs and 25yrs old.

Comments about Diamondback Atroz Comp Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

First off, this is was my first purchase from Nashbar. And after an ordering issue, customer service went above and beyond to help me out and make it right.... even though it was my own fault. I will do all my bike shopping here from now on.

I ride mostly single track, some technical, some not so much. No downhill, but wouldnt recommend this bike for serious downhill at all. Works great for what ive put it through.

Initially i had trouble with the right size. I found different sizing charts that didnt make sense. I am 6ft, 220lbs with a 31inch inseam. ...long torso, short legs... I ordered the 20, perfect fit.

I was riding a Jamis Dakota d29comp, but thought it was too bulky so i ordered this bike. I LOVE IT!!!! It handles way better, even though it is about 10lbs heavier. I guess im just not a 29er guy.

The handlebars were way too long, and heavy. So i cut them down to about 680 and got a longer stem. Way more manageable.

Also, the brakes sucked. The front wouldnt stop at all and the back only slowed me down. Took a bit of futzin around, but got them on the up and up eventually.

Gears shifted fine, no problems at all. But the cranks did come loose after about 30 miles of fast trails. No biggie though, just had to tighten them up.

The seat isnt real comfortable, but its not like you are sitting on it for hours at a time. And if you are, you got the wrong bike.

Front shock is great. Works just like the front shock on my Jamis. No complaints. Back shock: thats another story.... I think they forgot to put air in it. It completely collapsed just from sitting on it. But again, a little work and it was just fine.

The chain broke after about 30 miles as well. I hope to get a replacement from Nashbar, but we will see.

The wheels are a bit heavy, but they work. And im not jumping over busses so, im fine with what they got.

All in all id say its a great bike, as long as you can turn a wrench or two and understand you get what you pay for. It out performs my old Jamis and was only about half the price. Ive had more fun on this bike in the last two days than i had in the 8 months i rode my last MTB. Buy this bike. But be prepared to make adjustments.
