Diamondback Atroz Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive
The Diamondback Atroz 27.5" full suspension mountain bike provides everything you need to handle some serious off-road conditions. Built around a super-strong 6061-T6 aluminum frame, you'll surely enjoy the 4" of rear travel courtesy of the RockShox Monarch R air rear shock. The full suspension frame uses a sealed cartridge bearing pivot and is constructed around an optimized single pivot design which is the simplest type of rear suspension because there are few moving parts. Up front there's a SR Suntour XCM 120mm front fork with preload adjust that enables you perfectly tune the fork to your personal preference.

The Atroz features a 1x9-speed to keep shifting simple and precise. There's a SRAM 9-speed shifter that controls the SRAM X5 rear derailleur while the 32T single chainring and 11-34T SRAM PG50 cassette provide a wide range of gears to tackle any terrain. And to ensure the drivetrain works flawlessly through the rough stuff, a full chain guide with roller is there to keep the chain in place.

You'll ride with confidence knowing there are Tektro Auriga hydraulic disc brakes to deliver superb stopping power in all conditions. Wheel-wise, you've got incredibly reliable SL7 aluminum doublewall rims, 32-hole SL7 aluminum hubs, plus tried-and-true 14g spokes laced in a 3x pattern. Rounding out the wheelset is a set of Kenda Nevegal X 27.5x2.35" tires that sport an aggressive, all-around tread pattern for incredible bite.

Medium downhill and versatile XC bike. Needed a lightweight fully functional bike for my son. This fits the bill for tackling xc trails and hitting the downhill at the bike park.

Comments about Diamondback Atroz Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

Its a cheap tank. I take about 1-2 foot drops without discomfort, but Im worried that its wearing out quickly (especially the terrible fork). Hill climbing is an interesting experience; its like trying to peddle the stone cars from the Flintstones. The chain guide is noisy and rubs on the tire during sprints (a MAJOR design flaw). If you upgrade the fork, chainguide, and your leg muscles, you should be fine.

Comments about Diamondback Atroz Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

Great bike for the price. The components are decent. I bought the small, which weighed in at just under 34 pounds. It's on the heavy side, but for the price I really couldn't complain. I wasn't expecting much from the fork, but it's still a disappointment - the SR XCM that comes with this bike has no damping adjustments, no lockout, just two spring pre-load adjusters on both legs. There are various versions of this economy spring fork, and apparently Diamondback selected the really low end one.

The rear shock is good though. Some may wish for another inch of travel, but I like the 4" rear travel as is and the compression is very progressive. I am not really sure why they put a full chain guide on this bike since it doesn't strike me as a downhill bike, and more of a XC/Trail bike, especially considering the frame geometry and 4" rear travel. The chain guide is also noisy as the chain rubs against it while on the largest or smallest cogs.

The overall bike geometry is good so it's fairly agile and maneuverable. However, the shorty 50mm stem was just too short for the small size, making the cockpit feel very cramped. Also, the bar is just wayyyyy too wide. This is easy enough of a fix as I cut mine down to 680mm, but it should not have come with a bar this wide. Combined with the shorty stem, I felt like I was riding a unicycle while holding a hula hoop.

I have mixed feelings about the SRAM X5. It shifts well enough, but the push-push shifter mechanism takes getting used to since all my other bikes use Shimano with their push-pull shifters. Shifting is nice and accurate, no complaints there. The 1x9 gives up 2 teeth to the 1x10 groupo, and swapping it for a 1x10 setup will take at least $100 - not sure if I am willing to do that just to get 2 more teeth on the low end.

The Tektro hydraulic brakes don't look that bad. They are dragging a little - even though they appear to be perfectly aligned with a visible air gap on either side of the pads. The rotors might be slightly out of true. As they wear in, the dragging should go away somewhat. I am not bothered by it, however. Braking force is very good, however, nice and firm with easy modulation.

Every time I write something bad about this bike I hesitate because I remind myself that it cost me so little for a full suspension bike. The overall bike is good enough that the really bad parts can be swapped out, like the fork, and maybe a lighter set of wheels and tires. After those upgrades, it can be a 30-pound bike, which is very respectable.

Great Entry level full suspension bike for trail riding. Once you have the suspension set right and learn the correct techniques for riding full suspension bikes it's great. You can't beat this for the price especially if you find a sale with an extra 20-25% off.

Comments about Diamondback Atroz Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

I purchased this bike from Nashbar and the bike arrived quickly with no shipping issues. Overall the bike was easy to assemble for me as I do all my own maintenance and repair. The gears did need to be adjusted as I found after my initial ride. This may not be something a casual rider will be able to do and will require a visit to a bike shop. I found the bike to be heavy weighing more than my diamondback overdrive. I liked my overdrive and thought I would try something different in a 27.5 wheel. This bike seems to be OK for what it is. I was disappointed that the bike is not equipped with water bottle bosses the places where you attach a water bottle. I should have done more research on the bike to learn that. Overall not a bad bike. This bike is heavy and needs to be lightened up to make it great.

I ride everyday, I am 40 so the fact that this has a rear shock is a major plus. You are able to take hardcore trails while sitting it a huge plus. I am in pretty good shape I ride and do Cross Fit everyday so the weight of the bike is a none issue. I think it's 1 lbs heavier than a Trek Excalibur hard tail. The parts on the bike are a great value. I would have spent 1600-2000$ if I tried to build this on my own.

Comments about Diamondback Atroz Mountain Bike - Nashbar Exclusive:

This is a great bike for Technical Downhill with a good and versatile suspension, and powerful hydraulic disc brakes.
Too heavy for Cross Country, where 29-inch hardtail (or full-suspension) would be faster.
1x9 Drivetrain has limited range, so not great for steep climbs or fast downhills.
Coil Spring front shock better than most, but nothing like Air Shock, which is lighter and more responsive & adjustable.
Cheapest full-suspension with hydraulic disc brakes.
