Nashbar Carbon SB 350mm Seatpost
Lighten up your prized ride without lightening your wallet courtesy of the Nashbar Carbon SB Seatpost. And not only does the carbon fiber post and its forged aluminum, low-profile clamp do wonders to shave grams, you'll delight in how easy it will be to precisely position your saddle. The Nashbar Carbon SB features a two-bolt, micro-adjust clamp that's perfectly designed for minute adjustments. The front bolt rotates to dial in the angle and once that's set the rear bolt tightens to lock the saddle in place. The post's 350mm length works well with compact frame geometry on road or mountain bikes while the high gloss finish adds a serious touch of class to any bike's aesthetics.

This post is a good price. It is lightweight. The only drawback is that the adjustment screws make it very difficult to adjust the placement of the saddle.

Comments about Nashbar Carbon SB 350mm Seatpost:

Great price for a carbon post!

However horizontal adjustment was a royal pain. There is a 2 bolt horizontal adjustment which I much prefer. However, as previous review(s) pointed out, one bolt has a thumbscrew because the allen head is on the top side, and the problem is that loctite was applied so that the thumbscrew cannot be turned. I was only able to adjust it by putting an allen bit in the top bolt (between the saddle and the seatpost, and fish a 1/4" wrench to turn the bit ever so little at a time.

If there were a better way to do this, the instructions didnt say. In hindsight I would suggest installing the post into the frame without the saddle, and run the top bolt in and out by cordless drill with 5mm bit until it was free enough to turn by hand. If I were smart, I would take the saddle off and do this because if I need to adjust it, there is no way this would be done on a ride, and still a pain in the shop.

So to be fair, I don't have a ride on it, but I'm giving it 3 stars for the initial adjustment, and assuming durability and everything else is good going forward.

Comments about Nashbar Carbon SB 350mm Seatpost:

I substituted the alloy post on my new bike. Although it was a upgrade the adjuster is a little odd. There a tightening screw and an adjusting screw. The adjusting screw points up under the saddle. My saddle is a Nashbar FR-1. It has a large center slot in it. The adjusting screw points right up into that slot. I havent had a problem of it poking my bottom but it's close to doing so. Also, know that if you install it in a carbon frame because if has a glossy finish, it my slip down. I bought a double post clamp to prevent that.

Comments about Nashbar Carbon SB 350mm Seatpost:

First a disclaimer, I have not actually ridden on it yet (it's snowing), but wanted to write this review while the installation was still fresh in my mind. It's a beautiful looking post, glossy charcoal color, no visible weave pattern. Looks great on my Nashbar carbon 105 bike (which I love). The problem is trying to install the post with the factory applied loctite on the bolts. If you don't know, loctite is a compound, usually blue or red, applied to threads to keep them from unintentionally unscrewing. It does increase the torque required to tighten the bolt. This is not a problem when using a wrench, but one of these bolts is designed only to be thumb tightened. That is the problem, due to the loctite you cannot turn the bolt with your fingers. I had to apply WD40 on the threads in order to be able to finger tighten it, probably rendering the loctite useless with regard to intended purpose. I read all of the reviews prior to purchase and did not see any mention of the loctite issue, so perhaps the loctite is a new addition. Otherwise, everyone would have been complaining. The post I replaced uses two allen bolts which is a much nicer setup. Also, I think this would be a difficult setup to try to adjust at a stop during a ride. I was doing it on my work bench and it was still tough. Hopefully it's dialed in and won't need further adjustment. When doing the install, I removed the old seatpost with saddle attached and traced the entire thing on a large piece of paper to be used as a template in to hopefully exactly duplicate the geometry. Tip, use carbon assembly compound, not bike grease, for the install.

Comments about Nashbar Carbon SB 350mm Seatpost:

I purchased this seat post to use on my Meek 3.0DS bike I received for Christmas. I read reviews on the bike and it was suggested to go with a carbon seatpost. It doesn't seem much lighter than the aluminum one that came with the bike but it does absorb road vibrations better. It seems to be very well built and for the price I don't think you can go wrong.

Comments about Nashbar Carbon SB 350mm Seatpost:

used this once and found i was above horizontal (tilted upwards) the front bolt mentioned before was not recommended to be used by CS(thumb-wheel)
the proper way to install this post horizontally is to tighten the front bolt enough so that you cannot inset your rails with the lower retainer in place.
Then take out the bottom piece put your saddle in and wedge the lower in to sandwich the rails
this ensures you will haea a horizontal saddle
no other way that i am aware of (unless you have a ergo seat with cutouts. The front bolt points upwards into the seat?

Comments about Nashbar Carbon SB 350mm Seatpost:

Works as a carbon fiber seatpost should. Just be super careful if you opt to cut it down a bit if you think the additional "weight" slows you down. Not a suggestion, but people have been known to do so.
