Ergon SR3 Road Saddle
All of the ergonomic and fit benefits of the top-of-the-line Ergon road saddles are present in the base level Ergon SR3 model, just at a lesser hit to the wallet and a slight increase in weight. Ergon's engineers have done a masterful job in ensuring the SR3 provides all the comfort you need for even the most extended stints in the saddle. There's an anatomically shaped surface with a pressure relief channel, flexible side wings, as well as an upward curve at the saddle's rear that enables the rider to press into it for added stability and maximum power transfer. TiNox rails (a vanadium and titanium composition) help shave grams while providing superb strength and the composite shell hits the sweet spot perfectly of providing a balance of flex and support.

Additionally, the saddle comes in multiple widths that enable you to truly find a perfect fit that corresponds to the width of your sit bones. Riders with a sit bone width of 9-11cm should choose a small, a 11-13cm sit bone width is a size medium, while a sit bone width of 13-15cm corresponds to the large saddle.
  • Anatomically shaped surface with pressure relief channel provides comfort and relief
  • TiNox rails are lightweight and plenty strong
  • Composite shell provides optimal balance of support and flex
  • Flexible side wings optimized for biomechanical performance
  • Microfiber Superlite cover is durable and easy to clean
  • Upward curve at rear of saddle for rider to press back into to maximize power transfer
  • 3D Progressive Setup concentrates padding where it's needed most
  • Multiple widths provide means to find perfect fit for your sit bones

Comments about Ergon SR3 Road Saddle:

This is a nice, pro looking seat. While wide enough for me, it just seemed too flat for my contact area. My sit bones began hurting within 30min. on the saddle. Plus, there was a slight rise in the top surface of the seat (when viewed from the side) right in the middle of the seat despite the recessed center channel. That put a bit more pressure on my bottom. Just didn't fit my anatomy.

Comments about Ergon SR3 Road Saddle:

This saddle is great and deserves 5 stars merely on price. It's a bit tricky to position, compared to other saddles I've owned. But when you find the optimal position the world is good.

Comments about Ergon SR3 Road Saddle:

I love this seat, I've tried probably 7 different saddles on my road bike. While speed is important if my butt hurts to dang bad, it's just no fun. I spent about 30 minutes riding and making minor tweaks to position. Once I had it dialed in it was immediately apparent I'd chosen the one finally. My sit bones make proper contact, my butt doesn't go numb and overall everything has improved. My issue was my main seat was to narrow (brooks swallow). I ended up buying two more of these at Nashbars super price put one on my family ride bike and keeping one as backup. No complaints, weight/price is great, quality is good, looks are fine, materials are good. Great purchase.

      Interesting shape.....

Comments about Ergon SR3 Road Saddle:

Just a note on the odd shape of the saddle that I received. There is a distinct upward bow in roughly the center of the saddle that makes it tricky to find the optimal level of the saddle during installation. I can see that this bow will flatten under the rider's weight and probably provide an extra bit of room for flexion in the saddle, but it sure looks strange and makes for some guesswork as far as position. Maybe I just got a lemon.

Comments about Ergon SR3 Road Saddle:

First up: sizing. Check YouTube videos for how to measure. Even so, the sitting-on-cardboard for sit-bone width provided inconsistent results for me. At 6', 180+ lbs, and 33-34" waist I settled on a medium.

Opening the very quickly shipped box (thanks Nashbar!), this is one thinly padded saddle! Even so, it did seem surprisingly comfortable during setup. About 40 miles into the first 50 mile ride, my initial impressions had slipped irreversibly in a negative direction. True, it is very early into the biking season following a shamefully slothful winter, and true too I'm definitely towards the upper end of the age spectrum, but at this stage of life a more compliant saddle would be more appreciated (although back in my decades ago prime I'm sure I would have been thrilled with this one).

I'll keep it around, but in spare parts box. Perhaps after some "seasonal conditioning" my opinion will improve. Or perhaps what I really needed was a large....

At least it was inexpensive. I can't imagine the leap of faith some people have going for big bucks saddles, and at mailorder to boot.

Comments about Ergon SR3 Road Saddle:

Well design saddle except for no center cut out. No center cutout in the saddle creates too much pressure on the family jewels.

Had to measure "sit bones " , there were 3 sizes to the width of the seat, never did that before ,bought a medium, probably should have gotten a large, hard to tell without trying both sizes,,,

the shallow center relief works well.. the open channel saddles all
causes issues for me, not so with Ergon. minimal padding works
                well on long rides
