Comments about SE Bikes SE Big Mountain 24 Mountain Bike:

I chose this bike because of the wheel size, and the excellent shift and brake cable braze on mounts on the frame. The cable routing is well thought out, and this was important to me. I could always install a better fork on it later. The bike came extremely well packed in extra bubble wrap, and padding with tape to protect it. It arrived fast. And, though many have complained there are no instructions, it was mostly assembled, and really just 2 or 3 Allen wrenches and some screw drivers has me almost finished putting it together. I find it is not as heavy as others say. After all, the frame is 7005 aluminum, and has an oversize to most of the tubes for extra strength. The tires are decent too. Not too knobby, nor too smooth.

Comments about SE Bikes SE Big Mountain 24 Mountain Bike:

This is a 2012 model. A decent, albeit very heavy frame (the alloy is an old style aluminum-zinc no longer used in modern bikes, that's why the bike is so heavy), with the extremely low quality, old model components. Unless you are ready to replace derailleurs and shifters with something more decent, do not get swayed by the low price and stay away from this model. The shifters will break very soon, and derailleurs will either arrive or soon become unadjustable. I exchanged it 3 times, all units suffered from the same defects that the local bike shops were unable to fix. There is a good reason for the sharp drop in the price of this model.

Haven't purchased a bike in 25 years so this bike is a great bike to get started on. So far has been very comfortable to ride. A 17 inch frame would probably be better but the 19 inch is still comfortable. Great price.

Comments about SE Bikes SE Big Mountain 24 Mountain Bike:

Very nice bike on the cheap. Assembly wasn't an issue for me because I have put together several bicycles. This one is partially assembled and only requires simple tools to finish. More importantly was the fine tuning of the brakes, fork and drive train. That took awhile but after a tweek here and there, it all works great.

The welds on the frame and clear coat finish was impressive for a bike at this price point. However the saddle, pedals and crank are, to be blunt, cheap. Most people toss the pedals and saddle for something they prefer, so no big deal for those. But the stamped crank has got to go. I know it will be a chain eater and not marry well enough to have good shifting between the chain wheels. You get what you pay for in this regard.

The 19" bike is versatile enough for my 5'5" wife to ride with the seat post lowered fully. I've had it on trails with good results: Nice clearance over obstacles and uneven terrain, good handling and a very stable feel even in loose dirt.

Overall, it's a good 29er which could be made even better with simple upgrades.

Comments about SE Bikes SE Big Mountain 24 Mountain Bike:

The bike was one of my quickest builds -- now that trueness of the wheels is not an issue, they arrived perfectly true. My bike came with no instructions whatsoever so my introduction to disc brakes was without help, but the process proved no dilemma. I am curious that the largest frame possible for SE came equipped with 170 mm. crankarms. Now it has 175! I elected to replace the steel stem with an alloy one, but reinstalled the steel handlebar and am happy with the change. This is a heavy bike, but competent and well thought out otherwise. So far I have put about 50 miles on it in winter's usual guise and it has been a great companion in the woods. I will not modify it any more than what I have done and we'll see how long those wheels stay true!

Comments about SE Bikes SE Big Mountain 24 Mountain Bike:

Pretty decent bike overall. I compared this bike online to others and for what I paid it seems like a good deal. The bike IS fairly heavy and that's its major drawback. I would like more speeds as well.
It's appearance is nice. The bike is solid. The brakes work great. I had it professionally assembled and there's some lag in the shifting. I like my TREK better. If you want a relatively good bike for the money, especially after the discounts and don't mind the weight (about 40lbs) then this could be the bike for you.
