FACTORY SECONDS: Nashbar Mansfield 2 Chamois Tights
Stay cozy this chilly season. The Nashbar Mansfield 2 Chamois Tights provide extra insulation to keep you warm for those days in the saddle that are downright frigid. The soft, brushed interior fabric is optimized for warmth and since nothing puts a damper on cold weather riding like clammy skin it also wicks moisture away like a champ to keep you dry and comfortable. The multi-density Coolmax chamois, too, is superb at wicking moisture away from your skin all the while providing plush comfort for as many miles as the legs and lungs allow. Ample, 10" locking zippers means it's a jiffy to take these tights on and off while reflective accents ensure motorists can see you when you're putting in the early morning or early evening miles.

Special Note:
These tights are designated factory seconds solely due to a slight discoloration of the external Nashbar logo.
  • Soft, brushed fabric provides a comfortable, insulating layer that traps heat to keep you warm
  • Multi-density chamois with wicking Coolmax top sheet for ultimate riding comfort
  • Drawstring waist secures tights in place
  • 10" locking ankle zippers make for easy on/off
  • Reflective accents increase visibility in low-light conditions
  • Tall size option adds 2" to leg length

Great tight but runs small so buy bigger! It feels medium weight and good for temps from 48 to 58 degrees for me.

For the price, you can't say much wrong about these. The chamois does begin to irritate on the stitching if these are used for long rides. I have used them down to freezing but would not recommend these alone below 40F.

For the price, these are great cycling specific tights. The material is very tightly woven providing decent wind protection and durability. However, they are not stretchy enough to allow for much sizing discrepancy. I had to go up a size because they were tight and not stretchy enough. The chamois pad is decent enough for all but really long rides.

            Not wearable

Comments about FACTORY SECONDS: Nashbar Mansfield 2 Chamois Tights:

Calling this a factory second is a misnomer. This is unwearable. There is no defect in the pants. The top comes no higher than the top of the hip. It fits like a Speedo swim suit. It is not prpriate for riding unless you enjoy exposing a large portion of your rear end whilst riding.

Comments about FACTORY SECONDS: Nashbar Mansfield 2 Chamois Tights:

I am 6'5" & weigh 185 lbs so finding any cycling clothes in a tall size is rarer than hen's teeth. Ordered a large (all my cycling shorts are large, fit fine). Sizing through waist & hips/pelvis is impossibly tight & small. Could barely get them up my legs (like sausage casings). Way too tight around waist & riding down in the back from very slight movements. Had to exchange for XL which fits snugly. My advice is to to order 1 -2 sizes up meaning if you are normally an XL or bigger DO NOT even bother with these. If you have the least bit of a gut probably go 2 sizes up or skip these entirely.

Good comfort in low 40s-50s degrees F. I think 30s would take a heavier weight than these & with some sort of windblocker front. Some minor bunching on back of knees.

Comments about FACTORY SECONDS: Nashbar Mansfield 2 Chamois Tights:

I live in the Florida Panhandle and don't have too many extremely cold days. However, I have worn these tights in temperatures down to 38 degrees and found them to be extremely adequate and comfortable. Just make sure it is going to stay cold the entire time you are riding. If it warms up to 50 degrees you may be a little uncomfortable.

I am a 34 waist and the medium size fits perfectly. At 5'9" the medium tights leave enough length that I can pull the leg opening over my heel and slide my foot into my shoe. That keeps all the cold off my ankles.

These are excellent tights and i recommend them to anyone considering them as an addition to their gear.

Comments about FACTORY SECONDS: Nashbar Mansfield 2 Chamois Tights:

Reading through these reviews going back however long gave me a headache; good, bad, tight, low, perfect, etc. So I just bought a pair to see for myself. Here's my take..

My size: 6'2" 190lb, wear 32x34 or 32x26 pants, thinner build, active physique.

My comparisons: Mansfield bibs, L, couple years old and Mansfield non-pad tights, L/L, couple weeks old; Garneau Endurexx tights, M.

As far as the construction, these seconds are pretty much the same as 'regular' Mansfields; same Macau origin, same fabric, same zippers (I've also had no problems with any Mansfield zippers FWIW). The Nashbar 'N' logo is white on these as opposed to the yellow on the regular ones; they say they are seconds for logo discoloration in the ad description. The pad looks pretty much like the normal Mansfield pad too.

I laid these L over the regular L/L Mansfields and they are 2" shorter in the legs than the L/L, so good there.

Putting them on, they do feel a bit tighter than regular L Mansfields, but I'd call it maybe a 1/2 size off. The regular L Mansfields fit me with light compression up to about the hips, then there is basically no compression up to the waist. These seconds in L have compression thru the waist, very much like my M Garneau's.

The ankles end up just about 1-1/2" above my ankle points once they are into place. The L/L Mansfields are just a tad long, but go right to the top of my low shoes.

They do feel like they are a lower ride cut , but I don't have a same-size padded pair to compare with. My guess is if I took out the pad, they would fit the same as same-size non-pad regular Mansfields; the pad is what makes them feel lower to me.

I hopped on my drop-bar on the trainer and spun for a while; they did not ride down BUT the drop-bar/aero roadies might be flashing some gluteal cleft when you assume the position. Pad location on the saddle seemed fine in a drop-bar tuck. Should be fine for MTB.

I got these to wear under baggies for winter MTB with mid boots, so for my purposes they are fine all around. I guess I'd say if you are at the bottom end of a given size and thinner, the normal sizing would probably be OK; if you have gorilla legs and/or are at the top of a size definitely order up one size.

For under $20 on sale, they are a no brainer. Thanks Nashbar!

Comments about FACTORY SECONDS: Nashbar Mansfield 2 Chamois Tights:

Haven't tried these in really cold conditions yet, but they seem comparable in warmth to my Mavic tights. Might want to size up, not so much for the waist as for the legs. Very snug around the calf and ankle. Chamois pad felt a little out of place when I put these on but they passed 35 miles w/o any chafing or soreness.
