Comments about Shimano Storm Jacket:

This is a great fall weight commuter jacket. It is perfectly water proof. The rain beads so well, you will probably want to shake the jacket out and hang it over the tub before storage. The jacket is a bit bulky, though, so not a pack-just-in-case, but a wear-through-a-deluge. The hood is good for off the bike, so just leave it at home on the hanger. The zippers are a bit tough, so don't expect to be able to comfortably zip the jacket during riding. The jacket is nice enough for wearing as just a regular fall jacket.

    Comments about Shimano Storm Jacket:

Top quality water resistance light weight materials and well constructed. However the sizing is simply wrong. I bought a size large wanting some Ability to fit under layers for chilly autum rides. Good fit shoulders and chest. The arm length is for gorillas! 5 inches too long! What can I say? I had it altered by a seamstress. She literally removed 4 inches of sleeve length. It now fits. I plan to use it for fall rides.

      Comments about Shimano Storm Jacket:

The jacket has an excellent fit. It's not bulky, but is a bit heavy for everyday (or whenever it rains) cycling. That said, I gave 5 stars because it seems like typical Shimano quality, expect it to keep the rain out, and I'll wear it as a rain jacket off the bike as well.

I have only worn this jacket one time as I recently purchased it. I'm 6'4 H and 220 #. I purchased size xxl and it fits perfect. I wore it on 2 drizzly days and it kept me dry. I did not sweat inside the jacket. Great price for a good jacket. I purchased another one identical to use at my summer camp.

            Comments about Shimano Storm Jacket:

I don't ride in the rain much, but I have used the jacket for some 10 mile rides in early Spring with temperature in 45-50 degree range. This jacket provided great wind protection, kept me warm, and yet was still breathable and comfortable to wear. The hood is removable, attached by plastic grommets. Easy to snap on/snap off, but I wonder about durability.

Great value at the NB price point. This is the best quality rain jacket under $150 that I have ever seen...better than the Patagonia and Marmot jackets in that price range. And, it has nice cycling-specific features. Also useful off the bike.

            Comments about Shimano Storm Jacket:

So far I've worn the Shimano Storm Jacket only in chilly dry weather - little rain and no snow this winter in north central Texas! But the material feels like it should be rainproof. All the details indicate it's intended for maximum rain resistance, at the expense of some compromises to one-handed operation and wear at temperatures above 60F.

The jacket is so well windproofed it's suitable down to the 30s with a thin undershirt and long sleeve jersey. I haven't needed to wear my parka with Gore-Tex shell and Thinsulate insulation on chilly days. Fits neatly in my trunk bag with room to spare, although it's bulkier than fair weather cycling jackets.

I got the large and it fits well with enough room for a sweater, sweatshirt or winter jersey without feeling constrained. I could have worn a medium but this suits me for an all purpose winter and chilly spring/fall jacket. I'm 5'11", 165 lbs, with 42" chest and a somewhat long torso. If you prefer a snug fit for less wind resistance, consider a smaller size than the chart recommends, but it's not a form fitting design.

It has a neutral odor out of the package and doesn't smell musty after several wears on moderately cool rides with some perspiring. Shouldn't need to wash too often. Good feature for a rain jacket. (Shimano recommends cool water hand washing and air drying.)

Construction quality is excellent, as is the attention to detail.
*Outer shell doesn't feel slick, plasticky or rubbery.
*The waterproofed main zipper reduces need for an overflap.
            *Inner flap under main zipper.
*The inner collar and wrist band are covered with comfortable microfiber fabric.
*A mesh liner extends completely throughout the entire inner jacket, down to the wrists, helping with air flow and reducing discomfort from direct contact with the waterproof outer shell.
*Adjustable elastic bungee cords in the waistband to adjust fit and airflow.
*Snapped tail can be extended a few inches to cover the trouser seat in rain or on wet roads.
*Seams appear strong and well sealed.
*Subtle reflective accents catch light at night.

            Not so great:
*It's so windproof the outer shell doesn't breathe well. I may have metal mesh grommets added to the arm pits to supplement the rear vent.
*The front zipper can't be operated one-handed while riding. The waterproofing on the zipper to eliminate the need for a flap makes zipper operation stiff.
*The elastic wrist band and inner sleevelette ensure sweaty wrists and forearms. While this may minimize water entry in blowing rain it's a little uncomfortable even in cool weather above 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
*Not heavy or bulky for a rainproof jacket (far lighter than my motorcycle rain jacket), but heavy and bulky if you only need a windbreaker.

            Quirks:
*Adjustable elastic bungee cord for waist extends inside the pockets -- doesn't seem to be any particular advantage to this.

            Suggested improvements:
*Arm pit vents would extend the comfortable temperature range. Or, to preserve full rainproofing...
*A dual pull main zipper, adjustable from bottom as well as top, would aid airflow adjustments. My favorite winter parka has this feature and it makes a big difference in comfort on days that vary from cold to cool or fairly warm.
