Bell Star Pro Shield Road Helmet
A full commitment to speed and efficiency means never having to compromise, and that's exactly the idea behind the Bell Star Pro Shield aero road helmet. Adaptable versatility is the hallmark of this aero helmet, particularly the ultra-innovative Active Aero venting system which lets you regulate airflow, temperature, and aero efficiency on-the-fly with a simple slider mechanism integrated into the top of the helmet. Simply slide open to maximize ventilation on the climbs or slide shut to seal off the vents for an aero advantage on the flats or when you're sprinting for the top step of the podium. And for even more aero goodness there's an integrated (and removable) Magnetic Zeiss Eye Shield that increases aerodynamics as well as delivers optimal eye protection. Overbrow Ventilation further assists in cooling the head while the Float Fit retention system ensures the helmet's perfectly positioned with an ultra-lightweight design.
  • Active Aero lets the rider regulate airflow, temperature, and aero efficiency on-the-fly via a slider seamlessly integrated into the top of the helmet
  • Magnetic Zeiss Eye Shield improves aerodynamics, protects your eyes, and is easily removable
  • In-Mold Polycarbonate Shell provides a sturdier, more solid helmet
  • Float Fit retention system is ultra-lightweight and allows circumference adjustment plus vertical positioning
  • Cinch Guide system offers more precise fore/aft positioning, eliminates helmet creep and places the straps flat against the face
  • Overbrow Ventilation intakes deliver even cooling comfort
  • X-Static Padding is quick-drying and anti-microbial

Comments about Bell Star Pro Shield Road Helmet:

Extremely aero. Very comfortable. Fits a little small. I would recommend bumping up a size if you're on the upper end of the size spectrum. Used it in both New York and Arizona and never had any over heating issue. Face shield is amazing. Thought it was dumb at first but after using it for a while it trumps the comfort of any sunglasses any day of the week.

Comments about Bell Star Pro Shield Road Helmet:

I bought a second one of these for my son, so I get to do a second review.

The weather is cooling off, down in the 40's and 50's when I ride. This helmet is really a big help in this kind of weather. The adjustable ventilation is key: closed off when I am cold, open when I am grinding up hills. The absence of ventilation holes on the front really helps keep the cold breeze of my forehead.

Sizing note: the neck strap has two mounting positions inside the helmet as well as the dial to adjust fit. I had to move the strap to the lower set of holes to get it to sit below the bony prominence on the back of my head. Once I found that adjustment the helmet fits great.

Comments about Bell Star Pro Shield Road Helmet:

I am old and fat and have a pacemaker, aero isn't my highest concern anymore. I am trying to push my riding further into the winter, and to start earlier in the spring here in upstate NY. No combination of skull caps, balaclavas, hats, and helmet covers can prevent the painful cold spot in the middle of my forehead. I have ridden with this helmet down to 50 deg. F, and am very pleased with the adjustable ventilation. I think this helmet will work.
Some tips: check the attachment of the neck strap. There are two positions. I needed to move it down a notch to keep the helmet low in back. Note that the weight of the visor and wind pressure will push the front of the helmet down your face, depending on your riding position.
--I think you could buy a clear visor and avoid the cost of the photosensitive one by wearing both the dark and clear visors at once: one down over your face, an the other up on the "forehead". Switch as necessary.
--bonus points for the cool factor: my 12 yr old son thinks it looks like an X-wing pilot's helmet from Star Wars. I order one for him, too.
--Finally, I picked up 1/2 a mile per hour over one of my regular courses wearing this helmet. Was it the aero helmet, or the cooler temperatures? For an old guy like me to hold 17.5 mph over a hilly 20 mile course is pretty good. I am going with the aero :-)

Nashbar does it again! This helmet is a top of the line product at a great price with the discount. The fit, finish and adjustability is superb. The best feature is the vents that can close to keep out the cold and Yellowjackets.I have ridden on several 90 degree plus days and the helmet is as cool as any other I have owned. The high visibility yellow looks great and is good choice for safety. The clip on eye shade is a nice little bonus.

Comments about Bell Star Pro Shield Road Helmet:

As an avid cyclist who does not wear contacts I have been challenged for the last several years. My prescription doesn't accommodate prescription lenses and I was tired of the wind in my eyes. Then, I found this helmet by Bell. The magnetic visor is perfect for my needs. The visor by Zeiss has great optics. I purchased the photogray visor and I couldn't be happier. When I ride in the morning it starts clear and darkens as the conditions brighten. Some reviewers have stated that the helmet is warm. It is marketed as an aero helmet. I have ridden hard in 85 degree heat and don't see any more sweat dripping down my face than any of my fellow riders.
