Mekk Poggio 3.5 Road Bike
The Mekk Poggio 3.5 Di2 Ultegra road bike features some impressive updates for 2016 to a proven, endurance-oriented chassis. In fact, the frame and fork both feature a ground-up re-design that will no doubt lay the foundation for your own classic-worthy adventures. Mekk has reconfigured the bottom bracket shell design, beefed up the chainstays, and added more torsional resistance to the downtube for more stiffness and responsiveness. With the increases in the lower portion of the frame's rigidity, Mekk also looked at increasing compliance through the ultra-fine rear seat stays which are designed to allow controlled flex to cushion out road vibrations ensuring your comfort. The head tube is oversized and tapered to offer perfect handling control while Mekk's new carbon fiber compliance fork resists torsional twisting forces under hard steering yet allows fore-and-aft movement to keep the front end smooth and controlled. Furthermore, the frameset has been configured to accept wider, 28c tires to ensure comfort, grip, and better puncture resistance whatever the road surface.

To complement this exemplary frameset, Mekk has spec'd this bike with an 11-speed Shimano Ultegra drivetrain featuring their electronic Di2 shifters and derailleurs for the ultimate in instant, precision gear changes. Ultegra Di2 features an automatic trimming front derailleur, so you never have to hear the sound of chain rub again. The shifters act with digital push button shifting and are ergonomically shaped for optimal comfort and control. The battery, at the heart of the drivetrain, uses lithium ion technology that provides a range of approximately 1,000 miles before it needs to be recharged, which only takes just 90 minutes. The 11-speed Ultegra crankset features 50/34T compact chainrings and Shimano's four-arm design which reduces weight without sacrificing one iota of strength and stiffness. The bolt circle diameter is identical for compact as well as standard size chainrings meaning one set of crank arms can do it all - just swap out chainrings to mix things up while keeping the same crankset.

In addition to the drivetrain, Shimano is also utilized for the wheelset - in this case the aluminum RS330 model. The wheels feature a 30mm rim height to slice through the wind while 16 spokes in the front and 21 spokes in the rear ensure a proper balance between stiffness, light weight, and all-around performance. The rear wheel utilizes a 2:1 spoke distribution with 14 spokes on the drive side and 7 on the non-drive side for enhanced stiffness. Marquee brand names are smartly spec'd with the tires - the workhorse Continental Ultra Race - as well as the saddle - classic Italian craftsmanship and quality in the San Marco ERA Startup Power.

Mekk is the brainchild of Mark Edwards (ME) and Ken Knight (KK), a pair of Brits with extensive experience in high-performance cycling in both the racing and production realms, and they've delivered a remarkable bike worthy of the legacy of Milan-San Remo's iconic Poggio ascent.

Comments about MEKK Bicycles Mekk Poggio 3.5 Road Bike:

As the title of the review says, great bike! The Ultegra Di2 full group-set (not just derailleurs and shifters)is incredible, and the frame is light and comfortable. I did change the wheels, saddle, and bar tape, but this was more out of personal preference, and what I had on a previous bike, rather than necessity. Like another reviewer mentioned, the only reason I give this bike a 4/5 is due to some cosmetic details (chips in paint and decals), that do not affect performance at all.

Comments about MEKK Bicycles Mekk Poggio 3.5 Road Bike:

The more miles I put on this bike the more I am impressed with it. It handles really well, is very responsive and makes those 10% climbs more manageable thanks to the 50/34 gearing (especially for a rider like myself who is getting older and the same mountain climbs seem to be getting steeper each year). I would actually give this 4.5 stars for a couple reasons. It should have a carbon fiber seat post and the handlebars are pretty thin. The seat is not the greatest either so I swapped these three things out and it's good. The Di2 shifting is pretty smooth as well, no problems, no missed shifts, butter baby. For the price, and especially on sale, one would be hard-pressed to find a similar quality frame with these components.

Comments about MEKK Bicycles Mekk Poggio 3.5 Road Bike:

This is A great bike for the price. The Di2 is awesome. The bike looks great. Only reason it is 4 star not 5 is it came with a few small paint defects on the inside of the fork same place on both sides and anoter on the downtube. The wheel set is heavy. I put carbon wheels, bars, and seatpost on it. 16.8 lbs with 105 pedals. Very satisfied with the bike itself.
