Nashbar Flume Baggy Shorts
The Nashbar Flume shorts are baggy shorts done right. Featuring a tough nylon construction, these baggy shorts can withstand whatever you manage to dish out on the trails. A pair of Velcro tab adjusters on the waist enables you to dial in the perfect fit while the snap waist and zipper fly bolster the shorts' fit and versatility. The Flume doesn't have a liner so you can either wear these as stand-alone shorts or wear your go-to padded shorts underneath for enhanced comfort.

And for an optimal fit, it's recommended to order one size larger than normal.
  • Tough nylon construction is up for any off-road challenge
  • No liner means you can wear your favorite padded shorts underneath
  • Snap waist and zipper fly
  • Pair of Velcro tabs on waist ensure a precision fit
  • 5 pockets provide plenty of storage (2 hand, 2 rear, 1 cargo)
  • Inseam: 11"

Comments about Nashbar Flume Baggy Shorts:

I read some of the reviews and one was just odd.

First off I wear a size 34 waist pant and so I ordered the medium and they fit perfectly. They do seem to use a very durable feeling fabric which may be hotter than some of the lighter ones but it will last longer, and they seem well built; even though they are a thicker material they seem to move well enough even on a road bike. The pockets are deep enough so that anything being carried shouldn't fall out while riding.

Now for some of the odd stuff. The velcro adjustment is there if needed, this should be obvious and not worth a mark down. Another commented about the lack of belt loops, I find wearing a belt while riding a bike to be a horrible experience but that could be a personal thing; in addition to that the reviewer states that since they don't have belt loops they must be elastic waistbands which if he had actually owned a pair he would have immediately noticed that they do not have elastic and instead use velcro system to tighten up the waist if needed, (as a side note, I've had elastic waistbands last several years and not just one as he stated). Also if the reviewer would have zoomed in on the shorts before he bought them he would have seen that those were not belt loops and could have prevented the whole hassle of ordering and returning.

These shorts are not high end $$$$$ shorts, but they are great deal if you get them on sale and should last a long time, as long as $$$$$ shorts? probably not but at least half as long, so for $ (on sale) you might need two pair and pay $$ instead of $$$$$ over that same time period that the expensive one might last. All this means that these are a very good deal if you get them on sale which Nashbar does so quite frequently.

Comments about Nashbar Flume Baggy Shorts:

First up, the sizing: I'm 6'2" 190lb, usually wear either 32x34 or 32x36 pants. The Large fit 'comfortably loose' right at the lower waist with enough room for a pair of tights or shorts under, and likely even a tucked in shirt as well (as I will use them), and sit right at the mid knee caps; then they can be drawn in another couple inches at the waist with the velcro if needed. So, it would seem that the 'order one size up' mantra in other revues is true. For me, this is a nearly perfect fit right out of the bag.

These are built quite well. Nice weight brushed-feel nylon, but the shorts also feel fairly light weight when worn. Good relaxed cut allows ease of movement, and not so baggy that they will snag on the seat etc. while riding.

The pockets are great; the two rear and right thigh flaps are secured with nice heavy metal snaps (way better then velcro or button IMO), as is the waist. Slash pockets are deep enough that stuff shouldn't fall out when not riding, but I'd leave them empty during a ride.

All in all, I think these are a great deal for a pair of baggies, even moreso when there's a sale on. Can't comment on durability yet (only reason for 4 star rating), but if they hold up, I'll be completely satisfied with them.

Comments about Nashbar Flume Baggy Shorts:

These are well worth the money but nothing to get excited about. They run just a little on the small side so the velcro really does nothing for me. I guess it would if they were too large and need tightening up.

made of high quality material. Material is kind of thick and maybe not that breathable, but I foresee these shorts holding up for a long time.

Comments about Nashbar Flume Baggy Shorts:

In the website pictures it looks like these pants have belt loops, but they don't. That means that when the elastic in the waistband fails (and it WILL, in about a year), these pants will be throwaways. I returned them unopened, even though I bought them on sale and had to pay return postage, because I've been burned to many times by elastic waistbands. It's funny that I have 20-YO bike shorts that are still nice and snug, but the elastic they use in waistbands never lasts more than about a year.
DON'T BUY PANTS WITHOUT BELT LOOPS!!

Comments about Nashbar Flume Baggy Shorts:

These shorts were sized as XXL (42-inch waist).
I tried them on and could not get them to fit, even with the sizing tabs fully open.
These are two sizes smaller than advertised.

Comments about Nashbar Flume Baggy Shorts:

The large was listed as a 35-37in waist. I am on the bottom end of the range and was wishing for a bit more room, which they would have been perfect if the sizing was correct. The leg openings are on the small side for biking considering I could feel them ride up on my thighs just walking in them. The material and design had me excited about these shorts till I discovered the lousy fit. Bummer.
