Shimano MW7 Winter Mountain Shoes
Don't let Old Man Winter keep you confined to riding indoors. With the Shimano MW7 Winter Mountain Shoes on your feet you'll have the perfect footwear solution for facing the most severe weather situations. The MW7 shoes are engineered with Gore-Tex Insulated Comfort technology that's designed for riding in rain, snow, and cold conditions. The Gore-Tex technology delivers durable waterproofness and optimized breathability with the added warmth of insulation, which makes them an ideal solution for trail riders without an off-season. Pedaling performance is enhanced by the sole's Torbal technology. If the sole of a cycling shoe is totally rigid, the shoe won't accommodate heel flex when the bike is slanted in relation to the rider. The Torbal solution is to provide some sideways flex in the back section of the sole, while maintaining stiffness in the front. This improves balance and bike control by letting the heel section accommodate some lateral movement, while optimizing pedaling efficiency at the sole-and-cleat interface. The MW7 shoes feature a traditional lace system that's protected by a lace shield while the shoe's rubber outsole ensures there's plenty of traction on wet, sloppy surfaces.
  • Waterproof Gore-Tex Insulated Comfort liner is waterproof, insulated, and breathable for the ultimate performance in wintry weather
  • Insole with fleece liner for added insulation and heat retention
  • Synthetic leather upper is tough and durable
  • Torbal technology creates a torsional sole that provides sideways flex in the back while maintaining stiffness in the front
  • Rubber outsole improves grip in wet and slippery conditions
  • Speed lacing system allows for fast, easy adjustments and a secure fit
  • Laces are covered with a lace shield that's secured by a hook and loop strap
  • 360-degree reflectivity enhances visibility in low-light conditions

Comments about Shimano MW7 Winter Mountain Shoes:

I bought these on a 30 % off sale in October in preparation for the winter riding season that my friends and I enjoy. With my normal shoes a ski sock and a Gore-Tex over sock my typical cold weather ride (25-35 degrees) would be painfully cold in less than 1 hour. With these and the same sock (no Gore-Tex over sock since it is in the shoe already) I have been able to get up to 2 hours with comfortably warm (some chill but only minor) and dry feet. The shoes have been dunked on stream crossings and my feet have stayed dry. Once I find the right sock I'm confident that I will not get cold feet again. My normal shoe size is a 42 but I sized up to a 43 to accommodate a slightly thicker sock. These are a good winter shoe.

Comments about Shimano MW7 Winter Mountain Shoes:

My feet are always cold (I can sit outside in 80 weather and need to keep socks on!) I bought these because my feet quickly get numb when riding below 60 degrees.

I first ordered Lake MXZ303 shoes, but they have a strap around the back of the ankle that limits how far they open. Even with a pair two sizes bigger than normal, it was impossible for me to get my foot inserted. (I cannot wear cowboy boots or similar (non-lacing) boots for this same reason). This is not a problem with the Lake shoes, it is just an issue with the way my feet are shaped. The Lake shoes would probably not be a problem for most people. An extremely patient Nashbar customer service rep listened to my issue and helped me select the Shimano MW7 instead.

The Shimano MW7 opens farther at the ankle so I can get my feet into them. They run on the small side -- I bought one size bigger and they are still a touch snug with a single pair of socks. I have not had them long, but they seem to be well made. I have ridden 2 hours at 50 degrees and my feet were nice and warm. I'm guessing that I could ride down to 40 or below and still be OK.
