Nashbar Carbon 105 Road Bike
New for 2017, the Nashbar Carbon 105 Road Bike is your do-it-all, workhorse road warrior that can handle whatever endeavors come your way - be it races, fondos, spirited group rides, or simply riding for the pleasure of riding's sake. At its heart is a C5 high-modulus carbon fiber frame for an ideal combination of performance and comfort in an all-around competition-grade road platform. The C5 carbon weaving process translates into a frame that is incredibly stiff without adding unnecessary weight. The carbon frame features a BB86 bottom bracket for added stiffness and weight savings while the oversized chainstays and minimalist seatstays ensure a stiff platform for climbing and sprinting as well as comfort throughout long days in the saddle. The carbon fiber fork, with a 1-1/8" - 1-1/2" taper alloy steerer, is lightweight and ensures responsive, predictable handling.

The Shimano 105 5800 2x11-speed components spec'd at the shift/brake levers, derailleurs, and cassette simply perform as well as their Dura-Ace and Ultegra peers without the hit to your bank account. Shimano 105 is the epitome of stuff that works - day in/day out, year in/year out, no matter the conditions at hand. A FSA Gossamer mid-compact crankset with 52/36 chainrings combined with the Shimano 105 11-28T cassette strikes an optimal balance for gear ratios to handle steep ascents, steep descents, as well as flatter roads with equal aplomb. Vuelta Zerolite Comp wheels are reliable, all-around performers and sport Vittoria Zaffiro 700x25 tires for smooth-rolling, dependable performance.

Comments about Nashbar Carbon 105 Road Bike:

The bike came pretty quick and well packaged only a week after placing order. Assembling was a breeze with most things pre-assembled. The bike looks beautiful and really light. This bike is really fast and responsive, gear changing was smooth. Everything is better than expected for an entry level carbon fiber bike.

Comments about Nashbar Carbon 105 Road Bike:

So, I had a Schwinn Prelude and upgraded to this. The Schwinn is Aluminum, much heavier, with only 14 gears. I also bought the 37mm wheels and replaced the stock wheels and added Gatorskins. Overall, it isn't really faster except going up hills. The drive train, tuned once, clicks when on the big sprocket and in 7,8,9 on the rear cassette. I'll get it tuned again, but it is annoying. If you have a comfortable road bike and are looking at this as a bump in speed, I'd say you will be disappointed. I've put about 300 miles on it so far. I like it - just don't expect miracles.

Additionally, the sizing is very unconventional. Luckily, I paid attention to the measurements and got the right size. If you are 5'6-5'9", definitely get the 50. It has an effective top bar of 53. The next size up has an effective top bar of 56. For that, you need to be 5'10" or more.

My first road bike, I am friends with someone who races so I had a lot of recommendations. I'm getting quite in to it. The only thing I might have changed is internally routed cables. They look a bit better, and are better protected from elements and when being carried.

Comments about Nashbar Carbon 105 Road Bike:

So far I've logged about 160 miles in the first two weeks of riding this bike. I usually ride ~12 miles roundtrip to work when it's dry out and I like to get out for longer rides on the weekend. I've previously owned only hybrids because I find them most practical for my heavily urban riding (and still do). But I was delighted to give this bike a shot, hoping to do both more long road rides and some occasional commuting with it.

The smoothness of the ride and the lightness of the bike have exceeded my expectations. I don't have many other road bike experiences to compare to, but the dampening effect of the carbon frame makes the ride really smooth, and the lightness allows me to get up to pretty good speeds hardly even trying. The shifting out of the box was very responsive. Of course, this will require tuning especially after the cables stretch. Two mild negatives: the seat is pretty hard (and I'm used to biking daily) and the breaks, while working well, could afford more stopping power. All in all, though, I absolutely enjoy riding this bike. Feels way too nice for the price.

Some tips on assembly: For me the bike felt long (I'm 6'1" and got the 58 cm frame). I flipped the stem to angle upwards bringing the handlebars closer and moved the seat about an inch forward and that solved the problem. Be sure to get the right tightness when screwing the frame into the fork such that they move as one when riding over bumps. Everything else in the Nashbar video online led to an easy and self-explanatory assembly -- installing seatpost, stem, handlebars, and the front brake and wheel are not hard. The drivetrain is already entirely done out of the box! Overall very happy with the purchase.

Comments about Nashbar Carbon 105 Road Bike:

This is a great bike. Stiff, fairly light, 105 group, very attractive carbon matte finish. The only down side...the wheels are junk. They are very entry level, heavy, and the bearings are rough....but lets face it, if you're buying a carbon bike with 105, you've either got a set of wheels or plan to upgrade anyway. Everything else on bike is great. I bought a set of Vuelta 37mm road wheels for my wife's Tri bike from Nashbar....and they are sweet...especially for the price....extremely smooth bearings and pretty lightweight...I'll likely get another set for this bike. Nashbar may remove this....but I did some reasearch and confirmed that the frame and fork is the Fuji Altamira. Buy this bike with confidence....plus a set of wheels.
