Vuelta Corsa HD 11-Speed Road Wheelset
If breaking spokes or fighting to keep wheels in true have ever been an issue with your road wheels then the Vuelta Corsa HD 11-Speed Road Wheelset are definitely the right choice. Everything about them oozes strength and confidence so they're perfect for heavy training, the rigors of cyclocross, touring or commuting, or if you're simply a bigger rider who puts plenty of stress on wheels through normal riding. They've got a stout, 30mm-deep aluminum rim that's built to last plus you couldn't ask for a stronger spoke set-up than 36 straight gauge spokes per wheel laced in a 3-cross pattern.

The CNC-machined brake track provides excellent all-weather performance while the hubs spin on sealed cartridge bearings so they get up to speed quickly and roll smoothly. For the ultimate in compatibility this wheelset is 11-speed Shimano/SRAM ready, with an included 8/9/10-speed spacer for older cassettes so the odds are it will seamlessly work with your current drivetrain. Last but not least, there's no robot construction here as these wheels are lovingly built by hand for perfect tension and true.
  • 30mm, medium-V alloy, pinned rims are strong and aerodynamic
  • CNC-machined brake walls provide responsive, precise braking performance
  • 36 14-gauge stainless spokes laced 3x (both front and rear) creates a super-strong wheel
  • Sealed cartridge bearings spin fast and roll smooth
  • Robust design accommodates riders weighing up to 300 lbs
  • Hand built to ensure perfect tension and true
  • Shimano/SRAM 8/9/10/11-speed compatible cassette body

A lot of products have fair qualifiers. "For the price...", "Expensive but worth it...." and so on. This is one of the rare products that exceed expectations in every way. For the quality of this wheelset, it is ridiculously cheap. For the need it addresses, it does so and then some. I bought the Corsa wheelset back in 2009 to address issues with my factory spec'ed wheelset on my bike constantly coming out of true. Now, my bike was a Sora entry level road bike so naturally the wheelset was one of those areas where costs are typically cost. I'm also weigh in 210 lbs. I used the Corsa wheelset up until the summer of this year when I discovered an issue with my frame, prompting the need for a new bike. So that's roughly 8.5 years on the wheelset and in that time I had to do very minor truing twice. No problems with the hubs at all. In fact, if it weren't for the frame issue, I would still be happily on the Corsa wheelset. After replacing my bike, I find that the stock wheelset, no cross straight pull low spoke count (but light, lol), are requiring touchups about every 3 or 4 weeks. Since my new bike is an 11 sp, I'm getting this new Corsa wheelset as 11 sp hubs are longer than the 8,9,10 sp hub on my current Corsa wheelset. So, long story short, this is a wheelset built for durability and longevity, weight weenies or pro racers. That said, they've never held me back in speed, time or distance and I don't expect the new wheelset will either.

Another big guy hard on wheels looking for a replacement wheelset. For me it was for a aluminium 135 mm rear spaced hybrid, after reviewing pros and cons of different methods of having the wheel reside safely in the dropouts I ordered these and have about 1500 miles on them. They have been trouble free right out of the box and continue to be so. It's a little early to expect trouble, but they are quality pieces and I don't doubt the results of others and am happy with the purchase. As others have said heavy but reliable. My goals are fitness and weight loss not speed or replacing spokes and truing wheels. They work for me.

I have two sets of the prior versions of these wheels. I am over 300 lbs. and ride some less than stellar roads. The spokes don't break, and they stay remarkably true. I can't imagine there is a better wheel set for heavy cyclists, or just those who beat up their road rims.

I'm a big guy - 6', 250 - and these wheels feel sturdier than most. I had originally looked into a slightly cheaper Vuelta wheel set, but my bike mechanic friend suggested these instead. I'm glad he did!

I've only had these wheels a few weeks but man are they great! They are on the heavy side but I'm not worried about that and boy do they roll smoothly!! Very smooth!! My only issue is a popping sound that seems to be coming from the front wheel. I figured it would be the wheel "settling" in but the popping comes and goes. Sometimes it's all the time, sometimes it's every once in a while. I'm starting to think it might be the bearings, really not sure. But, so far, I really like these wheels. I average about 100 miles a week so they are getting a good work out. Longevity is yet to be seen. The only other thing is that I'll need to get used to crosswinds because of the deeper V. Not used to that just yet.

OK…so my set is from a previous year. I would imagine everything's the same except for the stickers (colors) on the rim. If you fall under the "Clydesdale" category and/or ride across some rough city streets, this is what you need! And I fall under both categories.

I haven't touched these wheels at all with a spoke wrench & of course, never a broken spoke. Now, if you're a "weight weenie", this isn't the wheelset for you. But I do like the fact the rim width is one millimeter wider than stock wheels with a generous braking surface too. My bike stops on the proverbial dime. Light? Nope. Tough? Tough as nails.

I ride between 300 and 4000 miles per year. I got my first set of these wheels 5 years ago. I had to replace 1 spoke on the rear wheel. I am getting a new set because the bearings are shot on my rear wheel. This is the longest lasting wheel set I have ever used in 25 years of competitive and avid bike use.
