Nashbar Alloy 29er Frame
Your 29er blank canvass awaits courtesy of the Nashbar Alloy 29er Mountain Frame. This svelte hardtail is constructed of 6061 aluminum -- the industry standard for quality in either mountain or road bike frames. The beauty of 6061 aluminum is that it's tough, light, and can be fashioned to give flex in all the right areas for superior control and riding comfort. The material strikes a nice, happy medium between carbon fiber and steel. The frame is designed for disc brakes only and is equipped to handle either a hydraulic or mechanical disc brake system. All of the cables are routed externally along the top tube for easy maintenance and to better protect them from mud and grime kicked up onto the downtube. This rock-solid 29er frame is such a good deal that resistance is futile. Snap one up today and build it just the way you imagined.

NOTE: The frame's head tube is tapered with a 1-1/8" upper and 1-1/2" lower. A headset is included with the frame, however the lower race is a 1-1/2" to 1-1/8" reducer. If you opt to use the included headset your fork will need to have a non-tapered, 1-1/8" steerer tube.
  • 6061 aluminum construction is lightweight, strong, and durable

Nice frame but needs really long travel fork

Literally a mix of modern and retro. Nice modern styling and design but with the classic English threaded bottom bracket, allowing the use of less expensive lower end components (ie square taper bottom bracket, crankset, etc). 1 1/8 fork fit well in the included headset although looks kind of dorky being smaller than the frame at that point. (A tapered fork would look nicer). The blue paint did have some cosmetic blemishes/haze in one area from the plastic shipping bubble rap. A little car polish buffed it out. The paint seems good although on mine the top tube seemed to scratch very easily; elsewhere seems to hold up nicely. I love that the frame came with no logos or other designs, just a nice solid blue color. Had to chase the threads on the bottom bracket due to some really tight tolerances. Frame geometry requires a long travel fork or you'll be bashing the pedals and cranks on literally every rock, stick, or obstacle. I can live with these shortcomings, all I have left to do is find a decent rigid suspension corrected fork with about 490mm axle to crown distance to get the pedals and cranks out of the danger zone (or perhaps a 100mm+ travel 29er suspension fork). This is an excellent frame for the price and has been a fun build.

    • Nicely painted if you like deep blue

    Cons

    • Only comes in blue

I was skeptical when I saw the price but when the frame came and I assembled it I was amazed at the value of the frame. The 6061 frame is lightweight, sturdy and beautiful. I would recommend purchasing a tapper 1/ 1/8 to 1 1/2 carbon fork to complete the look as it is worth it. I cannot give high enough stars...ironically the bike is now red, white and blue with all the components.
