SRAM started life as a mountain bike company peddling parts out of the founder’s trunk. Early industry insiders were quick to dismiss the ideal of anyone competing with Shimano and Campagnolo, but they made some great stuff and gained traction with the MTB crowd. They introduced innovations like GripShift and when they released their first road group in the 2000’s, DoubleTap shifting. Today SRAM has cemented its place, along with Shimano and Campagnolo, as one of the major component makers. SRAM components are known for their ability to take some serious abuse and keep on going, which is why they are so beloved by mountain bikers and cyclocross racers. They’re ever expanding line continues to push the envelope, and includes everything from value oriented gruppos like X5 or Apex, to the PRO-level XX and Red groups, with plenty in between to satisfy any level of cyclist out there.
